Chapter 14
“What makes you think I want anything from you?” Meaghan asked.
Dean shrugged, “I don’t know you just seem to be dissatisfied with us. I’d like to know what I can do to change that.”
Meaghan tried to think what she could possibly say to that but nothing came to mind. So she reached forward and pressed her lips to his. He kissed her back but his enthusiasm was limited so she pulled back a bit to look him in the eye.
“What’s wrong?” she asked.
“Nothing’s wrong,” he said but his face was closed.
Meaghan leaned back staring at him.
“How about we try something new,” she suggested.
“Hit me,” he said.
“Let’s stop with the endless talking and just…live. Let life take us where it will.”
“That’s a pretty bohemian plan for Meaghan-I-knew-exactly-which-college-I-would-attend-as-soon-as-I-was-born-Leonard.”
“Hey! Let’s not exaggerate,” Meaghan said laughing.
“What? You waited until you were in pre-school?” he asked making her laugh even harder.
“Yes I did. I thought the kindergarten teacher was an excellent consultant.”
“Well bully for you,” Dean said.
“So can we just allow ourselves to live or not?” Meaghan asked.
Dean shrugged, “Sure why not.”
“Great. So about this morning, what do you want to do?” she asked as she sipped her coffee.
Dean stared at her, a slow smile starting on his face which Meaghan recognized from last night.
“Apart from that,” she said grinning back.
“I just want to spend time with you. I don’t care what we do,” he said.
“You say the sweetest things sometimes,” she said. Dean picked up the dishes and took them to the kitchen. Meaghan made a move to go clean them up and put them in the dishwasher but Dean stopped her.
“I have someone who comes in to do that,” he told her.
“Oh well excuse me,” she replied her mouth making a moue of faux awe.
“Come sit with me on my balcony and tell me something about you I don’t know.”
“Okay,” Meaghan said, her heart speeding up as he pulled her along. Her wrist felt hot where his fingers closed around them and she could feel little jolts of electricity zooming up and down her arm. Did that not stop once you had s*x? Did they have s*x last night?
“Did we have s*x last night?” she said aloud.
“What?” Dean said settling her in his lap as he sat on the settee on the balcony, “You don’t remember?”
“My brain is fuzzy,” Meaghan excused herself.
“No. We did not have s*x last night,” Dean said wearily.
“Why not?” Meaghan asked.

“Because you were out of it and you kind of blacked out in the middle of kissing me.”
Meaghan buried her head in her shoulder, “Sowwy,” she said.
“Don’t apologize. You looked cute while you did it. And I tucked you in and folded myself around you and fell asleep holding you in my arms. And it was enough,” he said softly butting his head against hers.
Meaghan lifted her head to look him in the eye and he looked back at her with a smile, eyes intent on hers. She leaned forward pressing her lips to his, hoping he wouldn’t pull back again.
