“Aww, look at the love birds,” Smith said teasingly as he came to distribute drinks. Meaghan took her vodka and downed it quite fast, holding out her glass for more. Dean watched her with eyebrows raised but said nothing. His hand was brushing lightly across her nip*le. He was doing it so subtly it was only because of the bolt of lightning that shot through her on every pass of his hand that she even noticed. She fervently hoped no one else did. Smith fetched her a second drink and then came and flopped on the couch next to his sister.
“So you guys are a thing now huh?” he asked Dean. Dean looked at her eyebrows raised as if asking her to answer. She shrugged at him passing the baton back and he looked back at Smith leaned in and kissed her cheek. Meaghan did note that he still did not confirm or deny anything.
“Samantha has already started a campaign at the country club you know,” Bella said sipping her champagne.
“Really?” Meaghan asked as encouragingly as possible.
“Yes. Something about Dean’s new gold digger who’s trying to get one up on him and he’s too blind to see it.”
“Wow, new gold digger? And here I thought I was an old gold digger,” Meaghan said. Dean laughed and pulled her closer and Meaghan saw approval shining in Bella’s eyes. She would guess that she might have an ally except that she wasn’t planning on fighting any wars and she knew that the country club set were experts at double speak. You had to take everything they said with a pinch of salt until you figured out what it was they wanted. Meaghan looked at Dean; he was one of the country club set alright and she had no idea what he really wanted…apart from her body. She knew he wanted that. The way that he’d pressed her to his side clearly he hadn’t totally recovered from their earlier encounter.
‘And you Meaghan, what do you want?’ that voice in her head that spoke in her grandmother’s tone asked.
‘Good question’, she replied to it. The alcohol was beginning to affect her, she thought as she studied Dean. She had been interested in his brain since he quoted Lord of the Rings at her all those years ago and she’d definitely developed an interest in his body too in more recent times. Was that enough though? She could just sleep with him and not let him into her heart. This could be a lark; it didn’t have to mean anything life changing. This was probably the teenage romance she should have had ten years ago. She placed her hand slowly on his thigh, pressing down gently to let him know she was down with his program. His breathing quickened immediately and he pressed her even more firmly into him. Any nearer and she’d be sitting right in his lap. He stared into her eyes and she stared back. She could see the heat building there and his breathing was definitely getting faster. She could feel herself leaking, her body ready for his – it had seemed to come to the conclusion that this could work long before her brain caught up.
“You wanna get out of here?” he asked his voice low and raspy with desire.
“Sure,” she whispered back, hardly any sound to the word.
His eyes widened with surprise and then stayed that way with gratification. They couldn’t just stand up and go though – they’d just gotten here.
“I have an early morning appointment tomorrow. I really should get going,” Dean said.
“Aah, already? Sit a while, give us all the deets on your new relaysh,” Bella teased smiling.
“I think we’d do better to keep things to ourselves for a bit,” Dean said standing up. He reached down to help Meaghan to her feet.
“Whoa, Megs where are you going?” Bain protested.
Meaghan shrugged, “I don’t even know right now. Dean wants me to go with him,” she told him.
“I can’t let you go off with some stranger,” Bain said.
“Excuse me?” Dean said rounding on Bain. “Stranger?”
“Yeah stranger. As in guy who has no acknowledged relationship with my friend just wants to take her off to God knows where to do God knows what to her without reference or permission from her guardian or friend,” Bain said standing up to face Dean. He was a few inches shorter than Dean but he crossed his arms and glared as if he was ready to administer a beat down if that’s what it took. Dean stared at him and then smiled.
“I think Meaghan is enough of an adult to make her own decisions. Meaghan?” he didn’t take his eyes off Bain the entire time.
“Bain? Side bar?” Meaghan said taking hold of his hand and pulling. Bain sighed and went with her. She walked down a likely corridor that seemed to lead to a water closet. When they were far enough away that they could whisper in privacy she stopped.
“Okay. What’s up with the big macho showdown?” she asked folding her hands.
“Don’t you fold your hands at me,” Bain said. “He’s standing there being all arrogant and not even claiming you as his girlfriend and he wants to leave with you?” Bain’s voice was pretty high at the end of the sentence.
“Bain he won’t break my heart. I won’t let him,” Meaghan said intently.
Bain opened his mouth to protest. “I wanna sleep with him Bain!” Meaghan whisper shouted. “He asked me and I said yes.”
“He didn’t even ask you out today. He’s piggy backing on our date,” Bain protested.
“So is Daniel, I don’t see you pushing him away,” Meaghan told him. Bain closed his eyes.
“Okay then, you’ll call me in the morning?” he said.
“You know it,” Meaghan said and waited for Bain’s nod before heading back to the sitting room. She signaled at Dean who was still standing and waiting for her. He came to her and took her hand.
“Everything cool with your guardian?” he asked snarkily.
“Don’t be a di*k,” Meaghan said pulling him to the door.
“Sorry,” Dean said and let her propel him out. He hurried his footsteps to catch up with her. “I mean it. I’m sorry.”
“Okay,” she said.
“And I do want you in my life,” he continued. “My feelings for you are real. I know that much.”
“Thank you,” Meaghan said not sure where all this was coming from all of a sudden.
“Thank you? Really? Why not just say you don’t feel the same and save us both some heart ache,” Dean said ushering her into the car.
Meaghan laughed. “It’s a little ironic that you would say that,” she told him as he slid into the driver’s seat.
“Oh yeah? Why’s that?” he asked curiously as he drove off.
Meaghan stared at him grinning at his total obliviousness. “Nothing. Forget it.”
They drove to Dean’s house and Meaghan waited for common sense to set in, for her to change her mind about this whole ‘just a booty call’ type relationship. But nothing happened so she got out willingly when he opened the door for her and followed him into his apartment.
“Drink?” he asked.
“No thanks. I’m way beyond my limit already.”

“Okay then. Come here,” Dean said holding out his hand to her. She went to him and grasped his hand in hers and he pulled her to the bedroom.

Meaghan woke up in the morning not exactly sure where she was. She looked down at herself and noted that she was naked. She wasn’t alone either; she could feel another entity in the room with her, breathing evenly. She looked around, the room was familiar. She’d been here before she knew it but the pounding in her head was not letting her think. She turned onto her back and looked at the shape sleeping beside her, his arm draped over her stomach.
Dean.
She had spent the night with Dean Wesson…and she’d been so drunk that the whole experience was fuzzy.
