“Can someone tell me what is going on in there?” David angrily fired as he paced the corridors of the hospital. He couldn’t believe what was happening. One moment Chalondra told him she was coming to his place, and the next moment he was receiving a call that she had been shot. David felt tears about to drop from his eyes.

“Please be okay,” he muttered under his breath as he paced. It has been hours since Chalondra had been taken in for surgery. David wanted to see her and be sure that she was fine.

“Oh my goodness! David, where is she?” Natasha said as she joined David in the corridor. She had been called as well and informed about the situation. She had come running like David to the hospital.

“She is in there,” David said.

“What is the news?” Natasha asked.

“There has been nothing yet. They’ve kept me in the dark,” David said with frustration.

“Oh, my…” Natasha whispered with wide eyes. Not long after, the doctor stepped out, and David rushed towards his side.

“How is she?” he asked, and the doctor gave him a pitiful look.

“Can we talk about this in my office?”

“No, I want you to tell me what’s going on right here,” David demanded.

“Yes, please tell us. Is Chalondra okay?” Natasha asked.

“We were able to get the bullet out of her,” the doctor started, and David breathed a sigh of relief.

“She had a close call as the bullet didn’t hit her brain,” the doctor continued, and Natasha relaxed at this.

“However, the bullet grazed a vital organ, so we aren’t sure about what would happen to her now,” he continued.

“What do you mean?” David asked with a hoarse voice.

“Miss Davies has slipped into a coma, and she has a seventy to thirty chance of waking up,” the doctor said, and Natasha gasped at this. David felt his world come apart at that moment.

“Please, come back to me. You’ve been away for too long,” David whispered as he stroked Chalondra’s palm. He stared at her hand, which had grown thinner like the rest of her body. After spending two months in a coma, it wasn’t unusual. The doctors had started making suggestions about pulling Chalondra out of her coma as her chances of waking up were getting slimmer as the days passed, but David had vehemently refused as he insisted that Chalondra was going to come back for him.

“I should have asked you to come and stay with me even when you refused. I failed in protecting you, but give me a chance to make this right,” David said as a tear fell from his eyes. He looked unkempt and unbothered, like he felt. He hadn’t been able to function since the incident. He had spent days and nights beside Chalondra while he hoped she would wake up.

“Life has been meaningless without you. Nothing makes sense to me without you in it,” David said as another tear fell from his eyes. He held Chalondra’s slender finger and kissed it. “I can’t survive without you. You own everything about me. I love you, Chalondra,” David said as he admitted what he had refused to for months. “I’ve denied it, but I can’t anymore. Not when I might not get the chance to do so anymore.”

“I love you, Chalondra. Please come back to me and let me show you how much I love you,” he said before he broke into a sob when Chalondra didn’t make any movement.

He placed his head on the bed and continued sobbing. He didn’t realize that Chalondra’s fingers moved until the machines connected to her started beeping. David stared in shock. The doctor and some nurses rushed in before they directed him out.

David wondered what was wrong and could do nothing but wait patiently for the doctors.

“It all happened so fast,” Chalondra whispered as she told David what happened. David couldn’t help the tears that fell from his eyes as he stared at Chalondra. Natasha was holding her hand on the other side of the bed and stroking it.

“You came back to me,” David whispered as tears fell from his eyes. Chalondra slowly reached out to clean his tears.

“These past few months were the worst moments of my life,” David said. “I’m sorry you went through all this because of me. If I hadn’t lived a reckless life, this wouldn’t have happened. I wouldn’t have almost lost the one thing that would ever matter to me,” David said.

“None of this is your fault. Let’s just hope the person behind this is caught,” Chalondra whispered. Her heart blossomed when David said she was the most precious thing in his life.

“She has,” David said as his gaze hardened. He had received a call from the police department earlier that morning, and they had informed him that the person behind his ordeal had been nabbed. He clenched his teeth as he recalled how they had told him Stephanie Che was responsible alongside two assassins.

“Who is the person?” Chalondra asked with a frown while Natasha stared at David with interest.

“You don’t have to worry about her anymore because she will never walk as a free woman again. I’ll make sure she rots in jail,” he said with venom. “I have something I want to tell you, Chalondra. I’ve denied this for a long but I can’t anymore. I almost lost the opportunity to tell you this, but that won’t happen again,” David said as he held Chalondra’s gaze.

“I love you, Chalondra. I love you with all my heart,” he said, and she gasped in surprise. Of all the things she had thought David would say, that was the last thing she expected.

“Where are you taking me?” Chalondra asked as she chuckled as David led her out of the room they were staying. They were currently on vacation in the Bahamas. It was five weeks after Chalondra had been discharged. David had ensured she got back in shape during those weeks. He had properly taken care of her that Chalondra, who was also in love with him. However, she hadn’t told him that fact. David had blindfolded her and gently led her outside.

“Patience, darling,” David whispered in her ears, and she chuckled.

“I can’t wait for what this is,” Chalondra said, and David smiled. He led her to a stop before he removed her blindfold. It took a moment for Chalondra’s vision to adjust to the sight before her. She took in the flowers and the candle lights arranged in love shape on the private beach.

“Oh my goodness, this is beautiful,” She whispered as she turned to face David. She was met with another shock when she found him on his knees.

“I love you, Chalondra. I didn’t realize how much I’ve been missing without you in my life. I want to make us official. I want to spend the rest of my life showing you how much I love you. I understand if you don’t feel the same thing yet, and I’m ready to wait as long as you want for you to reciprocate my feelings. I want to spend my life with you. Will you marry me?” he asked while he waited with a thundering heart.

“Yes, I will,” Chalondra said as a tear fell from her eyes. David was overjoyed as he grabbed her palm and slipped the ring in her finger.

“I love you, David. I’ve only tried to wait for the right time before I tell you. I can’t imagine my life without you,” Chalondra said. David smiled at this before he rose to his feet and covered her mouth with his as they sealed it with a kiss.
