“Sorry to burst your bubble, but that wasn’t why I was asking. Yes, I wanted to know if you would be available for us to spend time together,” Chalondra said before David cut in and said;

“Definitely, your place or mine, babe?”

He had mischief written all over his voice.

“Stop it,” Chalondra said as she chuckled. “The thing is, Natasha thought it would be a

great idea if we had a double date. She would invite her fiancé, and I will invite you. She wants everyone to get to know each other,” Chalondra said.

“I see. That sounds good.”

“You are fine with that?” Chalondra asked.

“Of course. You want me to go, right?” David asked.

“Yes, I do,” Chalondra said.

“Good, then it’s a date. I just need to know the exact day and time. Probably the venue

as well,” David said.

“I’ll do that,” Chalondra said.

“Will this take all night?” David asked.

“I don’t think so. We’ll most likely be done in a few hours. We’ll go back home after that,” Chalondra said.

“I like the sound of that. It means I’ll have you all to myself for the rest of the night,” David said.

“David! Please tell me you are the only one there,” Chalondra said with an alarmed look.

“No, I’m not. My secretary is here with me and is a string at me like I’ve sprouted ten heads,” David said as he chuckled.

“What will I do with you?” Chalondra asked with an exasperated manner.

“Nothing,” David said while still chuckling. Chalondra smiled at this before she recalled the note. She wanted to tell David about it but thought it would be best if she didn’t tell him over the phone.

“Whatever. I’ll leave you to do your work,” Chalondra said.

“I’m on break. We can talk for a few more minutes,” David said.

“What do you want to talk about?” Chalondra asked.

“A lot. Let me start with last night,” David teasingly started.

“Oh no,” Chalondra groaned while he chuckled.

“Can I call you back later? I have some things that need my attention,” Chalondra said while David burst into laughter.

“Don’t you dare run,” David ordered.

“Bye, David,” Chalondra hurriedly said before she hung up.

“That was close,” she muttered as her phone beeped to alert her of an incoming message.

You escaped now, don’t think it would be that easy tonight. I look forward to it.

David

Chalondra smiled as she read the message over and over again. She felt a sensation between her thighs as she thought of what the night would hold for her.

“This is great, isn’t it?” Natasha asked as she glanced at Chalondra. Natasha was sitting beside Mark while Chalondra was sitting beside David. They were all seated at a bar Chalondra and Natasha frequented. The week had passed in a blur, and before any of them knew it, it was time for their hangout.

“Yes, it is,” Chalondra said.

“It’s good to meet Chalondra. I hope I’ve fallen in your good grace,” Mark said with a shy smile. Chalondra gasped before she directed her gaze to Natasha. She knew right then that Natasha had told Mark how she didn’t like him.

“It’s not what you think,” Chalondra said when Natasha diverted her gaze.

“It’s fine. Natasha told me about some of the things you’ve gone through in the past. I must say, you are a strong woman,” Mark said while David stared at Chalondra in intrigue.

“It’s one of life’s lessons,” Chalondra said as she shrugged.

“I hope you are rest assured that I only have good intentions towards Natasha,” Mark said as he lovingly stared at Natasha. Chalondra saw the love in his eyes each time he stared at her. She had known since they arrived at the bar that she had been wrong about Mark. Mark was a soft-spoken person, and she had noticed how he couldn’t seem to take his eyes of Natasha. Chalondra wondered if Mark stared at her the same way.

She recalled Natasha mentioning something like that and wondered how true that was.

She glanced at her side and found David watching her. Chalondra knew if her skin were lighter, her blush would have been evident. David reached out and pulled back the braid that had fallen out of the one she had packed. Chalondra gasped as she saw the vulnerability in David’s eyes. She had no idea what he was thinking about, but she knew it was something intense.

“Ahem,” Natasha coughed, and Chalondra and David snapped back to the present.

“The both of you looked like you were about to tear each other’s clothes off,” she said while Chalondra grimaced at her bluntness.

“They would kick us out if you do that. It’s just a friendly reminder,” Natasha said as she grinned at them. David smiled at this while Chalondra suddenly became interested in her hair. She grabbed the juice she had ordered and drank as her throat suddenly felt dry.

“Thank you for the reminder. Trust me, you weren’t far away from some of my thoughts,” David said as he grinned. Chalondra choked on her drink when she heard this. Immediately, David’s teasing look dropped as he focused his attention on her.

“Are you okay? Do you need water?” he asked as he wrapped his arm around Chalondra’s back.

“I’m fine. Can the both of you stop teasing?” she asked with an alarmed look.

“Where is the fun in that?” Natasha said, and Chalondra chuckled as she shook her head at this.

“I was a great fan of yours while you were in the NBA,” Mark said as he glanced towards David’s direction.

“Wow! Thank you,” David said, and that was how they started talking about the NBA.

Chalondra and Natasha joined in at some point, and there were a few question and answer sessions. They spent a couple of hours at the bar without realizing it. It was fun like Natasha had predicted. Soon, it was time to go home.

Chalondra and Natasha hugged while Mark and David exchanged contact information. They easily bonded beyond the expectations of the ladies.

“I had so much fun today,” Chalondra said as they reached the entrance of her apartment.

“This is a first for me, and I enjoyed it,” David said as Chalondra opened the door to let them in.

David shut the door after he entered. Chalondra took her seat on the sofa, and David joined her. He wanted to ask her the question that had been bothering him for hours.

Natasha had mentioned her wedding, and Chalondra had tensed up all through the conversation.

“Why were you tense when Natasha talked about her wedding? Don’t you approve of Mark?” David asked, and Chalondra grew tense once more.

“Of course I do,” Chalondra said with a frown.

“Why did it not seem that way?” David asked.

Chalondra stared at him for a while before she diverted her gaze. “I had two terrible experiences with weddings. The weddings and the preparations kept bringing back unwanted memories,” Chalondra said.

“Do you want to tell me about it?” David asked, and Chalondra thought about this for a while before she nodded. Then, she started opening up to David in a way she had never done to anyone before.

“I’ve known you are a strong woman, but this is on another level. They are at a loss, not you,” David said after Chalondra was done. “They lost a precious gem, and I’m glad they did because I wouldn’t have met you if it were otherwise,” David said while Chalondra smiled.
