“Thank you.”

Everyone knew about the contract that David was working on. He had endured sleepless nights over it and was detached from the entire family during the perimeter. Due to the necessity of landing the contract, everyone was more interested in how much progress the company was making.

David dropped the phone when he was certain that his mother had no more to say to him. He relaxed and tried to enjoy Chelsea’s touches on his body. It was beautiful to him.

He closed his eyes and tried to remember what it would be like if he didn’t land the company’s contract. After he had defied his father to become an NBA player, his father has been hard on him.

He hung his boots because he didn’t feel his ‘purpose’ there. His father was more than shocked to hear that his son was no longer interested in being a basketball player.

“I want to join the company, Dad,” he had said.

“Why would you want to do that now?” His father had a look on his face that told David that this decision did not go down well with him.

“Isn’t that what you want? For me to work in the family company?”

“Right now, I’m not sure if that is what I want. Your confusion appalls me.”

David understood why his father was angry.

“What if I let you into the company today and you later tell me that you want to become a cook in years to come? I can’t risk the progress of the company that way. I hope you understand.”

“What do you want me to do now that I am unemployed?”

“Find a job or something. I don’t care. You have the qualifications. I’m sure that you will sort yourself out.”

“Dad, you can’t do this. I can’t look for a job when my dad owns the largest conglomerate in the city.”

“I can and I will, David.”

It took a lot of appeasing before his dad finally agreed to allow David to come and work for him, and in the end, he had only agreed to let him if he started at the bottom. He had hoped that if David wanted to change careers again, it wouldn’t hurt the company too much.

David worked super hard and proved his father wrong. He made sure that everyone saw him and approved his promotions every step of the way.

He increased the company’s revenue significantly, and it made his father more than happy to make him the CEO eight years later. It felt right to make him the CEO at that point. The company had experienced so much growth in so many years since he joined the company.

Before he knew it, he was asleep on the massage table under Chelsea’s soft, caressing hands. Chelsea made sure to tell him that she was done with him, but he was too tired to leave the table. He had little time to rest his bones, and now he did, and he never wanted to leave that position ever again. Chelsea left him after several unsuccessful efforts to get him up.

Brandon drove David to work the next day; the journey was the quietest one that either of the men had ever had. This was the day they were supposed to know if they had won the contract’s bid.

David was particularly unsure what the results of today’s bid would end up doing to him. Maybe I will end up as a coach or scout, he thought to himself. That would be the first bid that he would lose, and it happened to be the most crucial bid in the history of Murray & Co.

He wondered what his father would do to him when he heard that he lost the bid. Nothing would devastate his father more than that. He consoled himself because that was not the first time that his father would be disappointed in him. He knew that he was going to handle it either way.

“Good luck, sir,” Brandon said to him, smiling while parking in the garage.

“Thank you so much, Brandon. I appreciate your effort these past few months.”

Brandon was more than happy to help his boss. His boss’ happiness meant that his workspace became pleasant.

Everyone waited patiently for the call to come into the office. The whole office was calm and quiet. Every single call was treated as a good news call. They made sure that they were ready for the congratulatory one in particular.

“Don’t worry, sir. You will win the bid,” David’s secretary told him when she saw his fear in his body language.

He only smiled, not knowing what to say to her.

The call came in a while his secretary was still in the office, and her eyes were wide, expecting the news.

David’s face was not revealing any of the news.

“Thank you. I appreciate it,” he said over the phone. He hung up and waited a minute before his facial expressions changed. He smiled hard, and that told his secretary all that she needed to know.

“We won the contract!” he screamed at the top of his voice. He was so delighted that he gave his entire team the whole day off to celebrate.

He had to call his friend who owned the best hotel in town. He had to celebrate in the most over the top way possible.

“Nick? I need to use your hotel tonight.”

“What is the celebration?”

“We won the contract, dude.”

“That’s great! Definitely worth celebrating.”

“It sure is.”

“See you tonight, then.”

“Get me some ladies tonight, Nick.”

“Sure thing.”

David was a serial playboy and would do anything to get in between a skirt. It was his bad habit, but he had the money to fund his excesses. The ladies swarmed around him every single time.

He also had looks in his favor. He was a former athlete, and any lady would kill to be with him. He had his popularity while still in the NBA. Back then, everyone wanted to be with him, and they still did now. His blue eyes did the trick. Sometimes all he had to do was tell the lady, “Hi pumpkin,” and he would get her into his bed that very night. He anticipated what the night would hold and couldn’t wait for it.
