“I’ll survive,” Natasha said.
“Come on, give me more details of your getaway,” Chalondra said with intrigue.
“Trust me; I have a lot to talk to you about. We’ll probably have a night out when I return, then I’ll give you the details,” Natasha said, and this got Chalondra intrigued. She couldn’t believe that she had almost discouraged Natasha from something as beautiful as this.
“I’m sorry for seeing Mark as bad. I thought it was going too fast. You know about what happened to me in the past. I just didn’t want a repeat of that for you,” Chalondra said.
“I totally understand, and I’m not angry. Trust me; it only takes a woman as strong as you are to be sane after what you’ve been through,” Natasha said. Chalondra smiled at this. This wasn’t the first time Natasha told her that she was strong. However, Chalondra didn’t see herself as someone strong. She only saw herself as someone who has been shaped by the scars of her past.
“Thank you,” Chalondra said.
“You’re welcome,” Natasha said.
“If you don’t mind, we could go for dinner. I mean with Mark. We could get to properly meet each other,” Chalondra said, and Natasha gasped in surprise.
“That would be amazing! How about we do it this way – why don’t you also bring David? That way, you won’t seem left out,” Natasha said.
Chalondra frowned at this. She didn’t know if David would agree to that. She thought about their contact and recalled that there had been no mention of either of their obligation to attend functions together. “Natasha, I’ll have to ask him,” Chalondra said.
“Come on, if he is the way you’ve described him, he won’t see anything bad in it,” Natasha said.
“I’ll try my best and see what his response will be,” Chalondra said.
“I’ve missed you so much,” Natasha said with excitement.
“I’ve missed you too,” Chalondra said.
“Okay, I’ll talk to you later,” Natasha said.
“Okay, bye,” Chalondra said before she ended the call.
Chalondra heaved a sigh as she thought about her conversation with Natasha. She couldn’t help but think about Natasha’s insistence about her being in love with David. Chalondra denied it time and again in her head and hoped that Natasha was the one that was delusional.

Chalondra felt excitement as she set the dishes on the table. After over a week of strenuous work, she had finally got a day off and now she would be having dinner with David. It was two days after Natasha had called to tell her that she had extended her trip by three days. Chalondra was excited at the thought of seeing David again. It had been pure torture to go that long without catching a glimpse of him. Chalondra smiled when she was satisfied with the arrangement she had made. She checked the time and realized she had less than fifteen minutes left before David would arrive. Chalondra hurriedly made her way to her bedroom and took her bath. She spent a few minutes before she stepped out to get dressed for David’s arrival.
She picked a white flannel gown that almost reached her knee. She walked to the dressed and packed the braid she had made some hours earlier into a ponytail. She had just finished packing her hair when she heard her bell go off.
Chalondra checked herself in the mirror once more before she hurriedly left her bedroom. She felt excitement coarse through her as she neared the door. She tried to prepare herself for what she would see on the other side of it. However, as she opened the door, her preparation vanished into thin air as she stared at David. She should have known that David would always have the ability to knock her out of her breath no matter how hard she tried.
“David,” Chalondra said as the cold breeze hit her face.
“Chalondra,” David said with a smile as he took her in. He felt like pulling her closer to take in her lavender scent properly. She effortlessly knocked him out with her beauty.
“You look breathtaking as ever,” he said, and Chalondra smiled.
“Stop with the flattery,” Chalondra said with a smile before she stepped aside to let him in.
“It’s the honest truth.” David said.
“Thank you,” Chalondra said as she shut the door after he had entered.
“Here, I brought this. I thought it would be a nice compliment for our dinner,” David said as he passed her the bottle of wine he had with him.
“Thank you,” Chalondra said as she collected the wine and turned it around. “Let’s go to the dining room,” Chalondra said.
“I got you something during my trip,” David added as Chalondra was about to turn.
“You did?” Chalondra said as her eyes lit up.
“Yes, I did. It isn’t much, but you came to my mind when I saw it,” David said as he passed the gift bag he had with him to Chalondra. Chalondra’s eyes widened as she stared at the bag.
“This is for me?” Chalondra said as curiosity got the better part of her.
“Yes,” David said with a smile.”Let me have this, so you can properly check the bag,” David said as he reached for the bottle of wine.
“Okay,” Chalondra said as she passed the bottle to him.
“Go ahead,” David said with a reassuring smile as Chalondra dipped her hand inside the bag. Chalondra couldn’t hide her curiosity as she brought out a velvet box.
Chalondra slowly opened the box and let out a gasp. Her eyes widened when she saw the silver necklace sitting in the middle of the box. It had tiny stones around it, and it was the most beautiful piece of jewelry Chalondra had ever seen. Chalondra didn’t need anyone to tell her that the necklace must have cost a fortune.
“Wow!” She gasped in surprise.
“Do you like it?” David asked. He warily watched Chalondra. He hoped she would like it as he hadn’t been able to stop himself from imagining how it would look around her neck.
“Of course!” she exclaimed. “This is beautiful,” Chalondra said in amazement while David heaved a sigh of relief.
“I’m glad you do,” David said before Chalondra frowned.
“I don’t think I can take this…” Chalondra said as David’s eyes widened. He wondered whether he had been wrong with his assumptions that she would like it.
“Why not?” David asked with a puzzled expression.

“It’s too expensive. I mean, I appreciate that you thought to get me something this beautiful, but I can’t take it,” Chalondra said as she tried to close the box.
“No,” David said as he hurriedly turned around and placed the bottle of wine on the table in the middle of the room. Then, he returned to where she stood and placed his palm on Chalondra’s shoulder.
“Listen, there is nothing too expensive for you. Trust me; this is nothing compared to what I still have plans to do for you,” David said as she held Chalondra’s gaze.
“David…” Chalondra tried to protest, but he shook his head.
“Shhh!” he said as he placed his middle finger against her lips. He felt his breath catch in his throat as he felt the softness of Chalondra’s lips. Memories of covering her mouth with his rushed to him, but he pushed that to the back of his mind with utmost effort.
