“I’m your friend; if you have anything bothering you, you know I’m always here for you,” Nick said, and David knew he was telling the truth. He knew Nick always had his back. However, he couldn’t tell Nick that his manager was responsible for his change of behavior because it was what Chalondra preferred.

“Where to, sir?” Brandon asked.

“Castro’s,” David said as he got into the passenger’s seat.

“Okay, sir,” Brandon said as he started the ignition.

“I’m perfectly fine,” David said as he returned his attention to Nick.

“Are you sure about that?” Nick asked.

“I am. In fact, I can tell you that this is one of my best moments,” David said with a grin while Brandon gave him a sideways glance.

“Wow!” Nick exclaimed. “Wait a minute… Does this have anything to do with Chalondra Davies?”

He started fitting everything into place as he thought of David asking about Chalondra just about the time his manager started receiving flowers.

“How do you know that?” David asked with a frown. He wondered how Nick had caught up on the act that he had something with Chalondra.

“I had no idea about anything before now, but you confirmed my guess,” Nick said as he grinned on the other end.

“Damn it,” David muttered under his breath.

“What do you have going on with my manager?” Nick asked.

“It’s none of your business,” David said.

“It is, David. She is one of my best staff. It was why I gave her the new position. I don’t want her to leave because you messed up with her for a while and got tired,” Nick said, and David frowned. He had never imagined getting tired of Chalondra. David thought about how he connected with Chalondra on all levels and how he hadn’t seen that kind of connection with anyone else.

“Who says I’m going to do that?” David asked.

“David, I know you. In fact, everyone around here does. You discard women in a blink of an eye,” Nick said.

“Whatever,” David said as Brandon kept driving. They would soon reach Castro’s, and David wanted to be done with their conversation before they did.

“I can’t believe you went all mushy on me,” Nick said as he chuckled while David rolled his eyes. “However, I didn’t take you for a tulip guy,” Nick added.

“Tulips? What does that even mean?” David asked with a bewildered expression.

“The flowers you sent to Chalondra?” Nick asked, puzzled.

David had a confused look. He had personally gotten the red roses he had sent to Chalondra. He wondered if there had been a mix-up in the delivery.

“You don’t have to pretend with me anymore,” Nick said.

“I am not. I don’t know about any tulips,” David said as a frown still marred his face.

“Oh, I guess you have competition, man,” Nick said as he chuckled. David was furious at the other man trying to get Chalondra’s attention. The thought of her with another man didn’t sit well with him, especially when he was trying to prove himself. He thought of his conversation with Chalondra earlier and tried to recall any mention of tulips. He couldn’t come up with any point in time she had mentioned it. David hoped it was a mix up, not another admirer vying for her attention. David knew he was selfish to think that way, but he couldn’t help himself. For the first time in decades, he was jealous.

“How are you sure she got tulips?” David asked.

“The delivery man brought it for her while she was with me,” Nick said.

“Around what time was this?” David asked.

“It was around 8:45 am,” Nick said. David made a mental calculation of the time he had branched the flower shop. It was about the same time he had sent flowers to Chalondra.

“Okay,” David said. The chances that it was a mix-up gave him hope even though he was furious that the flower shop had messed up the delivery.

“I have to go now,” Nick said.

“Okay,” David said.

“Can I say something?” Nick asked.

“Of course,” David replied.

“Chalondra…” Nick started before he paused, “she is not like the others. She is different. If you are trying your usual games with her, I’ll suggest you drop the idea. She deserves more than that.”

David frowned. “How do you know all this?” David asked. The thought that Nick was in any way interested in Chalondra was unpleasant to him.

“I have my ears to the wall around my hotel. I know things about my staff, and I can tell you Chalondra is a good woman,” Nick said.

“I know that,” David said.

“You know I’ve never requested this of you, but I would be glad if you treat her right,” Nick said.

“Are you interested in her?” David blurted out in anger as jealousy went through him at the thought of Nick wanting Chalondra for himself.

“What! No!” Nick responded in alarm before he realized that David was jealous. “Oh my goodness! I can’t believe this!” Nick exclaimed. “David Murray is jealous!”

“That’s your opinion. I have to go now,” David said as Brandon parked the Aston Martin at the parking lot of Castro’s.

“Okay, I can’t wait to hear how things will unfold,” Nick said.

“Whatever, please keep this under wraps. That’s what she wants,” David said, and Nick grinned.

“Trust me on that,” Nick replied, and David believed him.

“I’ll talk to you later,” David said as he alighted from the vehicle.

“Okay,” Nick said. They said their goodbyes before they ended the call.

David marched into the restaurant. He was glad that he was ten minutes earlier than the appointed time. He didn’t want to keep Chalondra waiting.

He found a secluded spot in the restaurant and took his seat. A waiter came to him to request his order, but he declined and told him he was waiting for someone.

David was going through his mail when he felt her presence. He felt the heat of her gaze even before he raised his head and saw her at the entrance. The only thing that kept ringing in his head was that Chalondra was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. He couldn’t help as his gaze swept over her. It landed below, and he found himself entranced as he watched the sway of her hips as she walked towards him. He couldn’t help but admire her perfection.

David rose as Chalondra reached his side. “Good afternoon,” David said with a smile as he held her gaze once more. Chalondra smiled before she said, “Good afternoon. I hope I’m not late.”

“No, you aren’t,” David said as he leaned in and placed a kiss on her cheek. He lingered for a while. Chalondra’s eyes darkened, and her breathing became labored for that moment as desire washed over her. David felt a tightness in his groin but quelled it as he pulled back. He knew he had no restraint when it came to Chalondra. It wouldn’t make him anything to pull her closer and plant a full kiss on her lips.

“Please take your seat,” David said with a husky voice. This sent shivers over Chalondra’s body. She gingerly took her seat before David returned to his. With a flick of his finger, David signaled for the waiter.

“You are always gorgeous,” David whispered as he intently stared at Chalondra. His gaze was unwavering even as the waiter reached his side. Chalondra order before David made his order.

“Thank you,” Chalondra said with a smile.

“I was talking to Nick a few minutes ago, and I was tempted to ask him to give you a night off,” David said with a low tone.

“As much as I would love to spend the whole night with you. I’m glad you didn’t because I don’t want you pulling strings for me,” Chalondra said.

“I knew that. Did you like the flowers I sent?” David asked.
