“Really?” Chalondra said with arched brows. “Anyways, I don’t care about what he does with himself. This isn’t leading anywhere. I mean, not only is he totally wrong for me, and I’m not interested in a relationship. We are also worlds apart, so don’t get your hopes up,” Chalondra said.

“I see; well, we’ll see how this will go,” Natasha said as she sipped from her glass of wine. Chalondra made no comment about this. They continued their movie in silence, and it was late when Chalondra’s phone started ringing. She knew it was David even before she brought out her phone.

“Hello,” she said as she answered the call while Natasha gave her a mischievous look.

“Hi,” David said with a voice that made Chalondra’s toes curl. “I’m glad you answered my call,” David said.

“I told you I would,” Chalondra said while Natasha watched her with interest as she listened to the one-sided conversation.

“I see, a woman of her word,” David said.

“You could say that, ” Chalondra said.

“How are you?” David asked.

“I’m fine,” Chalondra responded.

“Were you at the hotel today?” David asked.

“No, it’s my day off,” Chalondra said.

“I noticed that,” David said, causing a puzzled look to cross Chalondra’s face.

“You were at the hotel?” she asked.

“As a matter of fact, I was. I went to see Nick and thought I would be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of you,” David said, and Chalondra took a sharp intake of breath at this.

“You wanted to see me?” Chalondra asked in surprise. Somehow, the thought sent butterflies running through her stomach.

“Yes,” David said.

“Well, too bad because we can’t see until the date. The flowers you have been sending are raising suspicion as it is. What do you think would happen if people see you decide to visit?” Chalondra said as she remembered walking in on other staff gossiping about her mysterious admirer. In fact, Mabel had called her aside and told her she was happy that Chalondra had given in and was giving love a chance. It had taken over thirty minutes to convince Mabel otherwise.

“It did? That wasn’t my intention,” David said.

“I know. It’s normal around the other staff. There is always some juicy topics of discussion,” Chalondra said, but refrained from mentioning that she hadn’t thought she would be the major topic of one of the gossips.

“I see. Can I let you in on something?” David asked.

“Of course,” Chalondra said.

“I really don’t care about them seeing us together. However, I respect your decision for not wanting that,” David said.

“You do?” Chalondra asked. She hadn’t expected that David would be so understanding about the whole thing.

“Yes, I do. I mean, if it makes you uncomfortable, why do it?” David asked. Chalondra hadn’t expected that David would put her into consideration the way he was doing. She had thought of him as being a selfish and arrogant playboy, but it seemed David was trying to prove her wrong.

“I’m glad you think so,” Chalondra said.

“Let me guess; you think I’m selfish and wouldn’t care about any of that?” David asked, and Chalondra swallowed when she realized that he had guessed right.

“I understand. I mean, I wasn’t exactly pleasant the first time we met, so it’s only natural that you assume that about me,” David said.

“I’m sorry, it’s just that night and the tabloids,” Chalondra trailed off.

“You don’t have to be sorry. Well, I won’t tell you I’m a saint, and the tabloids are wrong about me, but that isn’t all about me that there is,” David said with a calm voice. “Maybe, if we get to know each other better, you will realize that I have another side to me,” David said, and Chalondra frowned at the thought of getting to know David better. They hadn’t agreed on that, but she found herself unable to correct David about it.

“Ahem,” David coughed as he broke the silence.”I wanted to check up on you. I hope you don’t mind that my call came in this late?” David asked.

“No, I don’t,” Chalondra said.

“Okay, I’ll give you a call tomorrow,” David said.

“Okay,” Chalondra said.

“Bye,” David said before Chalondra responded and said;

“Bye.”

Chalondra ended the call before she returned her attention to Natasha.

“You’ve got it bad, Chalondra,” Natasha whispered as she stared at her with a stupefied look.

“I have no idea what you are talking about,” Chalondra said with a shrug.

“Wow, I have a feeling that this is heading somewhere,” Natasha said.

“Will you stop with your unnecessary assumptions?” Chalondra said as she rolled her eyes. She tried to push the possibility of Natasha’s words from her mind. She knew she hadn’t completely freed herself with David, but it was different from the past few days.

However, that didn’t make her think that something would happen between them. “Can we continue this movie?” Chalondra said.

“You can deny it all you like, but I can bet that you have the hours for this man,” Natasha said, and Chalondra rolled her eyes. Chalondra would have vehemently denied it before that time, but she couldn’t now; she wasn’t completely sure about her emotions anymore. She decided to shove thoughts of David to the back of her mind and hoped that Natasha was wrong.

Chalondra stared at herself in the mirror again as she added finishing touches to her makeup. It was finally the night of their date. David had called her all through the week, and she had found herself opening up to him. Now, she thought he might not be a bad guy after all. She was putting on her golden strapless gown she had bought for the annual dinner held at the hotel that she hadn’t ended up wearing because she had the flu. Chalondra was pleased when she stared at the gown on her body and saw how it clinched to every part of her. She was still staring at herself when she heard the doorbell go off. She knew that was David because he had insisted on picking her up. Hence, she had given him her address. She hurriedly grabbed her clutch as she left her bedroom and headed towards the front door. She took a sharp intake of breath before she pulled the door open. They both let out a gasp of surprise when they saw each other. Chalondra found herself gawking at David, who was in a dark tuxedo. He looked refreshed and freshly shaved.

“David,” Chalondra whispered.

“Chalondra, you look stunning,” David said with an unbelievably calm voice, even though all of his inside was raging with desire. He could barely hold back from pulling Chalondra and kissing her lips; he hadn’t been able to get her off his mind for days.

“Thank you,” Chalondra said as she forced her gaze to meet his once more. “You look dashing as well,” she said.

David found himself smiling.”Thank you. Shall we?” he asked as he held his arm out.

“Yes,” Chalondra replied as she locked her door before she turned and hooked her arm around his arm. Big mistake, because she started feeling David’s full heat, and it was turning her on.
