Chapter 4
“Argh!” Chalondra groaned as her phone rang once more. It was three days after David had proposed that they go out on a date. Chalondra had been right when she had thought of the possibility of ignoring David and the idea failing. David had called her at least thrice daily since that night, and he made sure to send messages in the morning and in the evening to remind her that he wanted to take her out on a date.
“Why can’t he just get the clue?” Chalondra muttered under her breath as she rubbed her forehead. David made it impossible to ignore him.
The phone stopped ringing, and she let out a sigh of relief. Her relief was abruptly cut short when she heard a brief knock on her door. She frowned before she called out, “Come in.”
She was puzzled when Caroline, one of the receptionists downstairs, entered with a bouquet of red roses.
“Caroline?” Chalondra called out with a puzzled expression.
“You have a delivery,” Caroline said with a smile.
“That’s for me?” Chalondra asked with wide eyes. She wondered who had sent her flowers. She couldn’t recall the last time someone had sent her some. Hence, this came as a surprise to her.
“Yes, ma’am. The delivery man brought it a few minutes ago,” Caroline said as she drew closer to Chalondra.
“I see,” Chalondra said as she stretched her hand to receive the bouquet.
Chalondra turned it around to check if there was any card in it. There was one, and she plucked it out. She opened it before she realized Caroline was still standing there. She was waiting for more information on the juicy news she would spread to other staff. Chalondra raised her head and found Caroline leaning over like she wanted to check the contents of the card.
“Is there a problem?” Chalondra asked with arched brows.
“Of course not,” Caroline said as she realized she had been caught peeping. She leaned back until she was properly standing.
“Good, can you excuse me now?” Chalondra asked as she stared at Caroline.
“Of course,” Caroline stuttered before she left Chalondra’s office. Chalondra was sure she would be the headline for gossip in the next days that would follow. She wasn’t concerned about that, as she was more eager to find out where the flowers came from.
Hello beautiful
Persistence is the key, and I’m willing to wait as long as it takes if, in the end, you will agree to go on a date with me
David
Chalondra sighed as she dropped the note on her table. She rolled her eyes at the idea that she should have guessed that it was only David that was capable of doing something like that. She was still thinking of this when her phone started ringing again. She wasted no time checking the ID before she answered the call.
“Yes, I received the flowers. Thanks for making me the headline of gossip around here. I haven’t changed my mind about going on a date with you,” Chalondra rapidly fired in annoyance. However, the voice she heard made her let out a curse.
“Wow! I’ve missed a lot!” Natasha exclaimed with excitement. “I heard flowers and date. This is some good news. I can’t believe you would hide something like this from me,” Natasha said, and Chalondra closed her eyes and reopened them as she let out a groan. She knew there was no escaping until she explained to Natasha.
“Hey, babe,” Chalondra said.
“Hello, dear. I see I called at the wrong time. No, I called at the right time,” Natasha said with excitement.
“It’s not what you think,” Chalondra said as she sighed.
“Spill,” Natasha insisted.
“There is nothing to spill, Natasha,” Chalondra said.
“Really? Is this how we are going to be doing things from now? We promised not to keep secrets from each other, remember?” Natasha said as Chalondra sighed.
“Okay, fine,” Chalondra said.
“I got some flowers a couple of minutes ago,” Chalondra said.
“I heard that part; I want more details,” Natasha said, and Chalondra continued.
“Can we talk about this some other time? It’s a really long story,” Chalondra said.
“No, spill the details now.”
“Fine, it’s my boss’ friend.”
“Okay, what about him? What’s his name?” Natasha asked while Chalondra went silent.
“Calm down. One after the other,” Chalondra said as she chuckled. She had no idea why Natasha was that excited about the news as she was.
“Okay, I’m calm,” Natasha said, and Chalondra smiled.
“His name is David,” Chalondra said.
“Okay, continue. This sounds interesting,” Natasha said, and Chalondra launched into details. She started with David visiting the club some days back, his outrageous proposal and how she had rejected him. Natasha was furious at this as well, but softened up when Chalondra told her how David had been pestering her for a date. By the time Chalondra was done, Natasha was silent.
“Wow! This is unbelievable,” Natasha said.
“I told you so,” Chalondra said as she leaned on her chair.
“I always knew those curves of yours would land you into something big,” Natasha said, and Chalondra sat up. Natasha has always told Chalondra how her curves were capable of driving anyone insane. Natasha wasn’t as curvy as Chalondra, and she made it a point to tell Chalondra about how lucky she was to be blessed with them.
“What do you mean?” Chalondra asked.
“Nothing. Why don’t you want to go on a date with him?” Natasha asked.
“What do you mean by why don’t I want to go? It’s clearly for obvious reasons,” Chalondra said.
“Come on. Do you know if he wants to use the date to make up for his outrageous offer?” Natasha asked, and Chalondra rolled her eyes.
“What? I doubt that,” Chalondra said.
“Why not?”
“David has this confidence and arrogance about him. Apologizing is the last thing I think he would do,” Chalondra said.
“Don’t be so sure about that,” Natasha said.
“If he wanted to apologize, he could have easily done that over the phone,” Chalondra said.
“I still think there must be a reason he insisted on the date. Why don’t you give it a trial?” Natasha said, and Chalondra rolled her eyes again at this.
“I’m not giving anyone a trial. I’m sure he will stop badgering me if I keep ignoring him,” Chalondra said, and Natasha chuckled.
“That hasn’t worked before; why do you think it would work now?” Natasha asked.
“I don’t know, but I’m sure eventually it will,” Chalondra said. “Can we stop discussing David and focus on the reason you called me in the middle of work hours?” Chalondra asked.
“Well, I wanted to ask about our hangout. I wanted to know if it is still on?” Natasha asked.
“You know I would never cancel. Do you have other plans?”
“Of course not,” Natasha said.

“Good. How is Mark?” Chalondra asked.
“He is fine. Girl, guess what he did?” Natasha squealed, and Chalondra smiled. She was happy for Natasha as she told her about how Mark made it easy for her to like him more than she already did. However, the fear went through Chalondra when Natasha told her she was starting to fall in love with him.
“Don’t you think that’s too fast?” Chalondra asked with a skeptical tone.
“Trust me; there is nothing too fast about Mark. He is my dream come to life. It’s like love at first sight thing,” Natasha said, and Chalondra sighed.
“Is there such thing as love at first sight?” Chalondra asked, incredulous in her tone.
