“Well, I’m not your ordinary, average billionaire, right?” He winked at her. “I actually love to cook. It became sort of a hobby. The thing about living alone is that you have to prepare the food all on your own.”
“You really are one-of-a-kind,” Gabrielle replied and kissed the tip of his nose. “Now the answer to the second question. Where did you get all of this?”
“I made it all today, after I came from the airport, that is. It happened while I was texting you that message from your secret admirer,” he said and they both giggled, “I also gave my driver, you met him, a free day so that he can do whatever he likes. And this sweet basket was waiting for us in the trunk of my car. The end. Now let’s eat.”
Gabrielle laughed. “I didn’t know that you had this great a sense of humor.”
“I tried standup but they said that they needed uglier guys for the job,” he said laughing.
“Oh you sly fox,” Gabrielle said and punched him playfully in the shoulder.
Michael spread a red and white checkered cloth as Gabrielle put the basket in the middle and started pulling plates and food out of it.
“Yummy! I am going to lick my fingers,” she said as she placed some chicken onto a plate.
“Glad you like it. I’m starving, by the way. I think that I can eat an elephant and still ask for more,” Michael said as he tore a wing off the chicken.
They ate with the birds’ songs accompanying them. They chatted between bites, talking about everything from work and friends to childhood stories, plans, and current world news.
“It was a beautiful day today,” Gabrielle said, finishing up with the meal.
“Yeah, definitely. And it still is,” Michael replied, winking at her.
“All of this made it spectacular. I was going to die of boredom at home.” She put the empty plates in the basket and stared back at him.
“What about your daughter? Alesha? Does she come over during the weekends?” His eyes were gleaming in the creeping twilight. Everything had gone quiet except for their voices.
“She visits with her husband every now and then, yeah. Francis is very kind with her and I love the both of them so much. The thing is that I don’t want to be a burden to someone. I don’t want them to feel as if they are obliged to entertain me or something. Plus I want some grandkids,” she chuckled.
Michael nodded. “I completely understand. You have such a warm heart and you care for everyone.” His fingers fondled her palm. “You are too good for this world. Do you know that?”
Her heart was full of joy thanks to his charming, wonderful words. It was as if Michael had replaced all the blood from her veins with happiness. Yes. Happiness was flowing through her, reaching every distant spot from her toes to the hairs on her nape.
“You are too kind to me. You’re going to spoil me, Michael Good. And once you do that, there will be no going back,” she teased him.
“I would happily do so. You deserve all the pampering in the world.” Michael came closer and kissed her. He put his hand on her waist as he did so. Gabrielle in turn felt like she couldn’t get enough of him. Making up excuses in her mind, she couldn’t help but touch him and be next to him all the time.
His cell rang. He pressed on the ‘ignore’ button. “No one important,” he said and lunged toward her.
Michael and Gabrielle kissed some more until she noticed that it was getting late. Very late. “What time is it? It’s nearly night.”
“Um… You’re right. It’s nearly nightfall,” he said after he checked his phone. “But we have dessert.”
“That too?”
“Yup. The finest chocolate cakes in all the land,” Michael replied. “Want some?”
“I have to pass. I’m too full,” Gabrielle said.
“Then you can sit and watch, because I want something sweet.” Michael dove into the basket, fishing up a nice round chocolate cake and put it in his mouth. Gabrielle giggled, having the best time of her life.
An hour later they picked everything up and headed for the exit.
“I’ll never forget this day.” Michael put the basket in the trunk of the car and turned to face her.
“I second that.” She kissed him on the lips as a parting gesture. “See you…”
“Tomorrow?” Michael finished the sentence, giving her his adorable, heart-melting half-smile.
“Tomorrow it is.” Gabrielle smiled.
After fumbling with the keys because of the dark, she eventually managed to open her front door. She stayed like that in the dark with her back to the door. The tips of her fingers went to her lips, caressing them. It was as if Michael’s passionate kisses were still there. She felt them as she felt her heart beating loudly in her chest and threatening to come out of her mouth.
“I’m in love,” she whispered to no one in particular. It was a fact. Gabrielle Bassett was in love with generous, kind billionaire Michael Good. Just like the fact that the sun rises in the east and that the planets revolve around the sun.
She heard the ringtone of her cell. She had forgotten to call her daughter all day. It was definitely her. But the screen didn’t show the picture of her and her daughter. It was Michael.
“Hey,” she answered.
“How are you, pretty girl?” His deep voice came from the other side. It was enough for her heart to jump in delight. That voice did something to her body, to her blood pressure.
“Awesome, gorgeous man,” she replied, making her voice huskier and more seductive.
“Did you get home safely?” Michael spoke.
“I did, yeah. Thanks for checking,” she said.

There was a short pause. “I can sleep well tonight. Because I’ll be thinking of you and I’ll know that you’re safe and sound.”
Gabrielle let out the breath she didn’t know she’d been holding in the first place. She was packed with adrenaline. “You’ll be in my dreams as well.” The same as yesterday, she wanted to add, but contained the urge. They hadn’t reached that phase yet, where she could tell him that she’d had sexy dreams about him.
“Bye, Gabby.”
“Bye, Mikey.”
They both chuckled and hung up.
