Within no time the rest of the team were talking about ideas that could help better connect the watch and the fridge. Andre left them to get to work. The enthusiasm of his team made his job that much easier when it came to getting things done. They always seemed eager for feedback to improve their work. He was proud to have such a strong team of people behind him.
He wished that he had the same sort of relationship in other aspects of his life. Of course, it would be easier for him to talk openly about his dreams if his mother was more agreeable. Andre loved his mother, but they didn’t seem to see eye to eye. He knew that his mother had gone through her fair share of hardships in her life, and he understood that she was in her own right much wiser than him when it came to certain things. He could see where she was coming from most of the time especially when they didn’t agree on something, but she had a strong personality that never liked being wrong.
He was fortunate enough to have his mother in his life and he never took that for granted. However, their relationship had taken a lot of strain lately because of how strong both of them were. Like his mother, Andre had gotten her strong will and stubbornness and he knew that bringing up the topic of paying a surrogate to have his child would be very difficult.
Once he was in his office, he wrote down some of the main points he would address with his mother at dinner. He couldn’t focus on work as much as he hoped he would, and he knew that until he had a clear vision of what he would say later he would not be able to focus on work.
He tried to make a list of the key points he would bring up. Andre wanted his mother to know he had thought everything through, and it wasn’t just a passing thought. He wanted his mother to know that he understood what he was doing would change his life forever and he had thought about what he would need to do once the baby was born. Of course, he would work from home for a while with hired help at his beck and call just so nothing could go wrong. He would allow his brother to have more control over the business while he was busy with the baby, making sure to come back and take his position when the baby would be at least 2 months old.
Andre had a plan of how things were going to go once the baby was around. He would take time off of work to raise the baby for a few months, making sure to be there while the child is still small before he would go back to work. He had a plan and he hoped his mother would listen to everything before giving her opinion.
The day passed by slowly as Andre kept looking at the clock, watching the hours trickle by as it got closer and closer to the time for dinner with his family. He had arranged for them to meet at the one restaurant his mother loved, that way he would have a few bonus points already in the bag.
“Marco, have the reservations been booked?” Andre asked when he arrived at his assistants’ desk.
“Boss, yes. Everything is sorted just like I explained in the email. Your mother and brother will meet you there at 7 pm for dinner,” Marco replied.
“Perfect, perfect,” Andre said as he looked at the clock.
It was almost 5 pm which meant he would have time to rush home and shower before going to the restaurant. He could feel the sweat building on his body as the nerves kicked in.
“Are you okay boss? You don’t look so hot,” Marco commented.
“Oh, I’m fine. I’m fine. Just have a lot to think about,” he replied.
“Alright. Well, if that’s all then I’ll be heading out for the day,” Marco said as he started to pack up his desk.
“Of course, of course. See you tomorrow,” Andre replied.
He knew he sounded different, he could hear it in his voice. He hadn’t realized just how nervous he was for the dinner ahead until it was almost time. He went back to his office and packed away his laptop before making his way to the parking lot. He drove home in silence; his thoughts were loud in his mind.
This is it, he said to himself, once I’ve told mom then it’s full steam ahead.
It didn’t matter so much what she said once he told her, she could go red in the face and he would still go ahead with his plan. Telling her wasn’t so much as getting her approval or seeking her permission, it was just out of respect for his mother that he would tell her his plans.
Once he was parked in his garage Andre emailed Susan back, letting her know that he would like to see the candidates available. He didn’t see the point in waiting for any longer and the quicker he started, the faster things would happen. It was 5:30 pm so he didn’t expect an email back until tomorrow but with the thought of the process starting, he felt a sense of relief as he entered his house.
He had a quick shower and got dressed in one of his best suits, wanting to make a good impression on his mother, because she always told him that anything good could happen while being dressed in a good outfit.
By 6:15 pm Andre was ready to go and with one quick look over his list, he headed for his car and made the drive to the restaurant with minutes to spare. He wanted to arrive before anyone else just so he could make sure his mother had nothing to complain about.
He sat at the table that had been reserved for him and ordered wine for the table. He was eager to get the night over and done with.
At 7:00 pm on the dot, his mother arrived, smiling brightly at him when she saw him.
“Andre, just look at you,” she gushed as she made her way to him with arms wide open.
He smiled with admiration at her before hugging her. Even with the possible unpleasantness of the night ahead, Andre could not stop himself from smiling every time he saw his mother for, he loved her dearly.
“Mother, you look amazing,” he said.
“Oh, hush, hush. I’m just an old lady,” she replied.

Andre’s mother was only 52 years old though she didn’t seem so. She could easily pass for 47.
“Nonsense. Come sit,” he said as he pulled out a chair for her.
“Such a wonderful man I have raised, if only your brother were the same. I’m assuming he’s late as usual,” she said.
“Unfortunately, you are right mother but I’m sure he’ll be here soon,” Andre replied.
“If only he had learned better time management then we wouldn’t have these problems,” she insisted as she took a seat.
