“Just like you,” Andre said as he pulled a chair next to the bed so he could be close to them.

A nurse walked in as they both were wrapped up in their own little world.

“How is everyone feeling?” she asked with a gentle smile.

“Perfect,” they both replied at the same time, still with eyes glued to Quin.

“I’m glad to hear it. I’ve come to check you out and then help you breastfeed for the first time, are you ready?” the nurse asked.

“Yes,” Sophie replied.

The nurse quickly and carefully checked Sophie, making sure there wasn’t any additional bleeding and once she was satisfied, she helped Sophie with breastfeeding Quin. It was a whole new experience for Sophie, the sensation of being able to feed her child was almost overwhelming as Quin latched on and began to suck at her breast.

Sophie couldn’t believe that her body had adapted so much over the months, so she was able to do what was required of her as a mother. It felt completely normal to her too just as the pregnancy had and even though she had never thought she would be a mother she knew that she was built to be one after all.

“Have you called our families?” she asked as Quin settled against her body once she was done the feeding.

“Yes, and I called Olivia too. They are all on their way,” he replied.

“Good, that’s good,” she replied.

Andre and Sophie were left alone once again with Quin while they waited for their families to arrive. Sophie was excited to show everyone just how beautiful her daughter was. It was almost too good to be true as to how cute she was. Of course, she was a warm brown color, her skin taking after her mother along with the curly hair she had been born with.

“She’s going to break some hearts when she’s older,” Andre said.

“That’s for sure,” Sophie replied.

She had the cutest button nose with big brown eyes that looked like pools of honey anyone could drown in. She was also a quiet baby, she hardly cried at all over the time they were alone with her, her eyes just seemed to wonder as focused on nothing in particular.

All at once, everyone started to arrive at the hospital, entering the bedroom so they could meet the baby. First, it was Andre’s mother, she gushed and cooed at Quin as she held her. It was a sweet sight to see as Andre and Sophie watched the loving grandmother hold their child.

“She’s beautiful,” she said.

“We know,” Andre replied.

Next, Max and Olivia showed up, both of them didn’t know what to do with Quin other than stare at her while she laid in her crib.

Sophie wanted to laugh as Olivia acted as though Quin was some sort of alien.

“She won’t bite you, you know,” Sophie said with a laugh.

“Yes, I know that but I’m not good with babies,” Olivia replied with a huff.

“Neither am I,” Max said as he sat on the other side of the room. Andre and Sophie looked at each other before they laughed.

Sophie knew that Olivia wasn’t ready for children of her own so she could understand her reactions, she was confused however by Max’s reaction considering he was married and bound to have a child at any point. Sophie didn’t say anything about his reaction though, it wasn’t her business.

Sophie’s parents were last to arrive as they only showed up after everyone had left. Although Sophie had started to feel tired again from all the interactions she had had, she pushed herself to stay awake for her parents visit. Her mother held Quin lovingly as she cooed to her just as Andre’s mother had. She realized that their families hadn’t met yet and made a mental note of making sure they were all invited over for dinner soon so they could meet before the fancy wedding takes place.

“You two have created a beautiful child,” her mother said.

Sophie could say it over and over again, but her daughter really was beautiful, even if she was a bit biased.

“She really is,” Sophie said as she stiffened a yawn.

“You’ve made us proud Sophie. Although we thought you would’ve done things a different way, we are still proud of you. Just look at everything you have in your life and how much you’ve done for us. We will never ever take what you’ve done for us for granted,” her father said as he patted her hand before asking her mother if he could hold Quin.

She watched as her parents made a fuss over her daughter and she couldn’t help but smile. Through everything, she knew that her parents would stand by her no matter what and she would always be grateful for that even if they didn’t agree with her. Of course, they will never know that technically Quin had been born into a legal marriage as they had wanted. She and Andre had gotten legally married for themselves and not for her parents so she didn’t have to tell them right away that they had gotten what they wanted but at some point, she would tell them that Quin was born a Bekker because both of her parents were Bekkers too.

“You look very tired and I’m sure you must be,” her mother said as she took Quin one last time before placing her in her crib.

“I’m very tired indeed,” Sophie admitted.

“Well, then we will get out of your hair. We can’t wait to see you three again,” her mother said as she kissed Sophie on the cheek before she walked over and said goodbye to Andre.

Soon, Andre and Sophie, were left alone again, just the two of them with Quin. It was clear, that Quin was also tired of all the people as she laid sleeping in her crib.

“Can you believe that we’re parents now?” Andre asked as he sat in the chair next to Sophie’s bed.

She couldn’t believe that the past 10 months had flown by so quickly and so much had happened in that time. Not only was she a mother but she was married. She couldn’t believe any of it.

“It still feels completely strange. I didn’t think that by becoming a surrogate I would be given such a life like this. I am honestly so blessed to be here with you and Quin. I had none of this planned for myself before I met you and now, I wouldn’t have it any other way,” Sophie said.

Andre motioned for her to move up as he worked his way onto the small bed with her, wrapping his arms around her as he kissed her, she settled her body against his as she felt the love, she had for him overflowed inside of her.

“I feel exactly the same. I thought I would be here on my own with a baby that would need so much more than what I could offer as one person but here I am with possibly the two greatest things I could’ve ever asked for. Money sure as hell cannot buy happiness,” Andre said.

Together they fell asleep for a while, waking up now and again to check up on Quin who cried a few times when she was hungry or needed some attention. They knew that raising a child wouldn’t be easy, but they knew that as long as they stuck together everything would be fine.

Sophie watched Andre out of the corner of her eye every time he got up because of Quin. He tried to be quiet and gentle as he moved as to not wake up Sophie but as if her maternal instincts were raised, she could feel and hear everything. She let Andre take the lead for the night they stayed in the hospital, she could see that he wanted to help so she could rest a little more before they had to go home.

Sophie wasn’t worried about going home though, she trusted that as a team Andre, and she would do well as parents. She admired her family as Andre thought she was sleeping, and she knew that she had made the best choice ever when she had sent in her application to be a surrogate. Her family was amazing, and she wouldn’t have it any other way as she watched Andre cradle and rock their daughter back to sleep.
