Chapter 11
Sophie.
Sophie and Andre had been engaged for 2 months and she still couldn’t stop herself from looking at her ring every chance she got. It was the most amazing piece of jewelry she ever owned.
It still felt surreal to her that she was engaged to Andre, a man who had loved her for years before giving up only to end up being the person she was meant to be with all along. She couldn’t believe how things worked out.
When she told her parents about the marriage, they were more on board than ever before and as she visited them in her old house, she couldn’t thank Andre enough for everything he had done for her and her family. Her parents were happier having one less thing to pay for and Sophie knew that she would have to thank her lucky stars every day for the rest of her life that she had been fortunate enough to be blessed with such a man like Andre. He was definitely serious about providing for his family.
Sophie had spoken to Andre about doing all the paperwork for their marriage before the baby was born, that way they would be a family legally when she arrived. Andre agreed to the idea, saying that they could have a fancy wedding once everything settled after the birth.
“You wouldn’t mind?” she asked him.
“Of course not. Whatever you want works for me,” he said.
Sophie loved that he was so willing to do whatever she wanted but she also wanted him to be sure of it for himself too.
“But I want you to be happy too,” she said as they sat at the dining table having breakfast.
Sophie was due to pop any day and they had managed to get the baby’s room sorted just over a month ago. She loved the way it looked because it wasn’t overly girly, but it definitely had a few splashes of pink all around.
“I am happy. I am happy to sign papers now so I can call myself your husband and call you my wife,” Andre beamed.
“Now, that sounds amazing,” Sophie said with a smile.
“Shall we go down to the courtrooms today? You’re going to go into labor any day now,” Andre pointed out.
“Yes, that sounds like a plan. Shall we do it now?” she asked.
“I think so,” Andre smiled as he kissed her before helping her off the couch.
They both had showers and got dressed, Andre decided to wear a suit while Sophie wore a white dress. They beamed at each other as they made their way to the car.
“This is so amazing,” Andre said as he helped Sophie climb into the car.
“I know. This is one step closer to us being an official family, can you believe it?” Sophie asked.
“Yes, yes I can, I believe everything worked out the way it was supposed to,” he replied.
Sophie knew he was right. When she thought about it, she knew that if she hadn’t met Andre and if she hadn’t become a surrogate, she would probably be single still with no intention of having a family of her own. It was amazing to her as to how perfectly everything had fallen into place at the most unexpected time of her life. She hadn’t been anywhere near thinking of having her own child when she had met Andre but as she fell in love with him more and more every day, she could see herself having more children with him.
“I can definitely agree with that. I still can’t believe that I am going to be a mom. Like this was never something I thought I’d be doing any time soon,” Sophie said as they drove to the courthouse.
“I never believed I’d have a proper family either, it’s amazing how things work out,” he replied.
“It definitely is amazing,” Sophie agreed.
Her stomach was filled with butterflies as they got closer and close to the courthouse. She almost pinched herself. Andre was everything she could’ve hoped for in a man the more she thought about it. He was kind and gentle, always willing to help and never selfish, he was almost perfect in every way that Sophie loved him more and more every day.
They arrived at the courthouse and found somewhere to park.
“Are you ready to go in?” Andre asked.
“I’m more than ready,” she said with a smile.
They made their way into the courthouse, hand in hand as they took the next step in their relationship. Sophie knew that not a lot of people would understand their relationship, especially considering everything had happened so quickly between them but every step they had taken together felt right and she wouldn’t be able to explain that to someone who had never felt as madly in love as she did.
It was just lucky that Andre was such a high-profile person. Almost everyone knew of him when they saw his name and so it didn’t take long for them to be signing their marriage license and having it certified immediately. Within 30 minutes Andre and Sophie were legally married.
The day would seem like any other day to anybody else but as Sophie and Andre found a place to have lunch they were glowing with happiness.
“I love you, Mr. Bekker,” she said.

“I love you too, Mrs. Bekker,” Andre beamed.
They carried on with their day as if it were any other, Andre dropped Sophie off at home before heading to the office for the day as if they hadn’t just got married. It was their secret which made it that much more special.
“Will you call me if you go into labor?” he asked as he was about to leave for work.
“Yes, of course, I will,” she replied. She kissed Andre one more time before he left for work.
She went back in the house and rested the rest of the day, she could feel that the baby had dropped but there were no signs of going into labor as she watched TV on the couch. Sophie was tempted to try all of the things she had read about that help woman go into labor, but she decided to wait a few more hours before doing anything. Before she knew it, she was asleep on the couch.
