“Now that the business talk is over let’s just chill for a while before we have to get ready for lunch,” he said as he settled on the couch next to her.

Instead of watching TV the pair sat on the couch and talked about everything, Sophie expressed that she was nervous about meeting Andre’s family, but he reassured her that there wouldn’t be any problems, after all, his mother wanted him to be with a partner if he were to have a child.

Soon they were getting ready to head out for lunch, happy and cheerful as ever, especially Andre as he knew his mother would be happy.

They arrived at the restaurant 10 minutes early and ordered something to drink while they were waiting. From afar Andre knew his mother and brother wouldn’t be able to tell that Sophie was pregnant and he was glad because it would give him the chance to explain.

Within moments his mother and brother arrived at the restaurant, Andre stood up and hugged his mother and shook his brother’s hand before he moved to introduce Sophie.

“Mother, Max, this is Sophie, my girlfriend,” he said. Sophie then stood up to greet his family and Andre could see the shocked looks on their faces as they saw her belly.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you,” Max said while Andre’s mother stayed silent.

“Andre, dear. I’m very confused. Please, help me understand exactly what is going on here,” his mother said as she sat down. Everyone followed her lead and sat down too.

“Well, mom, I hired a surrogate which happened to be Sophie,” Andre said as he looked admiringly at Sophie as she smiled nervously at his mother, “we went through the process legally in the beginning but because we saw each other often we couldn’t deny that there was chemistry between us and as we spent more time getting to know each other we realized that we actually want to be together as a couple and raise the baby together,” Andre explained.

He watched as his mother and brother reacted to the story, both of them looking between Sophie and Andre as he explained everything.

“So, after everything, you’re actually having a baby with a partner after all?” his mother asked.

“Yes, mom. That is exactly what is happening. We’re together,” he replied as he took Sophie’s hand into his.

“I’m not going to say that I’m not shocked by the news because honestly, I really didn’t believe you were going to go through with the surrogacy idea, however, I am so glad that you are not doing this alone,” his mother replied with a smile.

Andre could feel Sophie relax next to him as the acceptance of the situation was a lot better than expected, even Andre who had said everything would be fine was slightly unsure if he was right. He was glad that his mother was happy, he knew that he would’ve stayed with Sophie even if she wasn’t, but it helped that she didn’t say anything bad because he did want his mother involved in their child’s life.

“Well, since we have that out of the way. Would you like to know what we’re having?” Andre asked.

“I think you’re going to tell us either way,” his brother chimed in, having not said a word since he arrived.

“That is true. We’re having a little girl,” Andre said.

Andre’s mother began to cry with happiness, “finally, a little girl in the family. All I’ve known are boys,” she cried.

The rest of the lunch went by smoothly, Sophie spoke to Andre’s mother while Andre and Max spoke about the business and before long the lunch was over, and they were making their way home.

“I think we should go visit my parents,” Sophie said in the car.

“I’d love that, you just let me know when,” Andre replied.

“Right now,” she said.

“What?”

“Yes, right now. Andre, I haven’t told them anything, not even the surrogacy part so I think it’s time I tell them I’m pregnant. Although I would like to keep the surrogacy part of it out of the conversation,” she replied.

“Wait, so when you saw your parents last time, they didn’t know a thing?” Andre asked.

“No, not one thing. The only person in my life that knows about the surrogacy is my friend Olivia who I will also need to talk to about the new arrangements. She actually warned me to be careful of this,” Sophie said.

“I’m glad you weren’t that careful,” he replied.

“I’m glad too. So, can we see my parents?” she asked.

“Sure, give them a call and tell them we’re on our way for a visit,” he replied.

“Awesome, thank you, my love. I think now is the best time to tell them considering we might as well be honest about our relationship but like I said they aren’t to know about the surrogacy, they’d never understand. I think we can just say that we were stupid, and we messed up, but we are still happy with the result,” she said.

“I’m happy to go with whatever story you feel is right. I just want you to be happy,” Andre replied with a smile.

“I am happy,” she said.

Andre didn’t mind that Sophie didn’t want to tell her parents the full truth about what happened, he could understand that if they wouldn’t understand the reason behind being a surrogate in the first place, they might not understand their current relationship which wouldn’t work out for anyone.

He didn’t know much about Sophie’s parents, but Andre could tell that they were very important to Sophie and because of that he would do whatever it took to make sure they were happy just so Sophie was happy too. He would dye his hair and tattoo Sophie’s name on his arm if it would make her happy. Of course, he knew Sophie was a pretty simple girl to please, but he would do anything for her.

“Okay, they know we’re on our way. I’ve just told them I have something to share with them and that something would be you and the baby. They don’t know I’m in a relationship either,” she said shyly.

“If I didn’t know any better, I’d think you were trying to hide us for some reason,” Andre teased.

“I’ve hidden you and the baby because I’m scared of their judgment, but with you, by my side, I feel like I can finally tell them,” Sophie said as she looked over at him as he drove them to her parent’s house.
