“I can do whatever I want in the meantime. Andre is paying for literally all my needs and the baby’s needs so really, I can afford to take a rest right now,” Sophie replied.
“It honestly sounds like you’re creating a life with this guy and you know that won’t happen,” Olivia said.
Sophie knew that her friend was pointing out something that she had thought about, she had thought about what it would look like on the outside but technically speaking she and Andre weren’t a couple and didn’t act like one either. They had hardly looked at each other for the past few weeks even though they had seen each other naked, there was no way Sophie thought that she and Andre were creating a life together. They didn’t share anything so what kind of life is that?
“No, I’m creating a family for him. I am a key component in his family making plan and other than that I am just the woman that lives in his house,” Sophie replied.
She could feel her patience with her friend wearing thin, she didn’t need to be told that she was nothing to Andre, she already knew it. It hurt to think about the fact that there would probably be no contact from Andre after she had the baby. She knew she was stupid for even thinking that he liked her back and she was stupid to allow her feelings to get involved when she knew it was all strictly business, she had signed a contract after all.
“As long as you know that you still need to survive after this then I will stop talking about it, but I just don’t want you to get carried away by the idea of having something when there isn’t,” Olivia said.
“Yes, I know. Anyways, listen, I have to go. I’m having an ultrasound in 30 minutes and I have to meet Andre there, so I don’t want to be late,” Sophie said.
“Okay, it was really good to see you. I’ve missed you,” Olivia said in a sad voice.
“I miss you too but just think, in a few months everything will be back to normal and then we can go out without the bump,” Sophie said jokingly as she hugged her friend goodbye.
Once Sophie was in her car, she thought about seeing Andre and decided that it was time to talk to him about where they stood. She wasn’t going to expect any sort of relationship out of him but if the night they had was just a one-off thing she wanted to know just so she could tell herself that she could not get attached to him.
She drove back to the house because she had agreed to go with Andre in his car to the ultrasound. Once she arrived back at his house, she found him standing outside waiting for her, she parked her car in the garage and quickly went to him.
“I was going to message you once I had parked,” she said as she got to the passenger door while Andre went to the drivers’ side of his car.
“I know, I had just popped out to see if you had arrived, so I guess it was perfect timing,” he replied.
“Perfect timing indeed,” Sophie said.
They had to drive 15 minutes to get to the doctors’ room and considering Sophie didn’t know how much they would talk afterward she decided to bring up the topic sooner rather than later.
“Andre?” she asked.
“Hmm?” he hummed.
“Can I ask you something?” she said. Her heart was racing, she could hear it in her ears and a part of her wondered if Andre could hear it beating too.
“Go for it,” he replied.
“Neither of us has said a word about what happened a few weeks ago and I know I was wrong for sneaking out of your room the way I did I just wanted to know if that night meant something to you?” she asked.
“Oh, well. I didn’t expect this, but I suppose it was bound to come up eventually. Sophie, that night was possibly one of the best nights of my life and trust me, I’ve flown to Paris just because I wanted to so that says something. I thought that maybe you left because you regretted it, so I figured I’d just act as if it never happened,” he replied.
Sophie couldn’t believe what she was hearing, it made her smile as she played his words over and over again in her mind.
“I do like you Andre. Obviously, the situation is a bit complicated, but I do like you,” she replied.
“I like you too Sophie. I mean I’ve liked you since high school but now just feels like it was meant to happen this way rather than back then,” he said.
“This is so crazy. I’ve been thinking that you were the one that regretted that night and meanwhile you were thinking the same about me. We’ve just wasted 2 months over just being too scared to say something to each other,” Sophie said.
“I just didn’t want to put you in a difficult position, but I suppose technically speaking we are both in a difficult position now. I mean, if what we are saying now is that we like each other, then where do we go from here?” he asked.
“I guess that’s something we have to figure out, maybe we can talk about it over dinner?” Sophie suggested as they pulled up outside of the doctors rooms.
“That sounds like a plan, in the meantime, let’s go see how our baby is doing,” Andre said with a smile.

Sophie had tried to keep herself detached from the baby, so she hadn’t thought about it as her baby and hearing Andre call it their baby sent off a bunch of emotions in her. They were having a baby together now, whether she wanted a baby or not it was too late to go back. If she and Andre decided to stay together then she will be a mother and that thought scared her a little.
They walked into the doctors’ room hand in hand and although Sophie was nervous, she was also excited to find out what they were having. The thought made her nervous because it was her baby too now. She knew that either way, she would’ve shared DNA with the baby, but she had also banked on the thought of never seeing the baby after birth, but as she thought about it then and there, she knew that she would be an actual mother. How would she explain that to Olivia? How would she explain the situation to her parents? She had no idea.
“How is everyone today?” the doctor asked when they had been ushered into a room and told to wait for the doctor.
“Oh, just great,” Sophie said, the words slipping from her tongue without any way of her stopping them.
“Well, that’s good to hear,” the doctor said, “let’s get you set up here so we can see what’s going on.”
