Chapter 7
Sophie.
“How’s it going with Mr. Billionaire?” Olivia asked as she sat across from Sophie at a local Cafe just down the road from Andre’s house.
“Everything is fine, nothing to report here,” Sophie replied.
She hadn’t seen Olivia for at least 4 months. It wasn’t as if she hadn’t tried but she was on a different path for a while and Olivia couldn’t seem to be around Sophie while she was pregnant. Sophie couldn’t tell her friend that it was only two months ago that she had s*x with Andre, and they had hardly spoken since. Neither of them said a word to each other afterward especially because Sophie had snuck out his room while he was sleeping. Andre didn’t seem to mind so much as he never mentioned their night together afterward, neither did he invite her over to his side of the house.
Sophie wondered if he had just used her because she was there, but she was sure she felt something more between them, she could feel it in the way he was with her. Of course, she knew that there was a possibility of him being gentle just because of the baby but she was only 2 months at that point, so she wasn’t even showing that much.
“Interesting, so the living arrangements are still working for the two of you?” Olivia asked suspiciously. Sophie knew that her friend was trying to dig for information, but she didn’t know what she would think of her if she did tell her about the night she shared with Andre.
“Yes, it’s going well. I see him now and again so he can talk to the baby a little but other than that, we stay separate,” Sophie said.
She wasn’t lying of course, but there was still an underlying awkwardness between them. She wanted to bring up the night, ask him if he regretted it but it never seemed like the right time to bring it up. She would see him every second night so he could read something or just talk to the baby, but they hardly spoke to each other during those times.
Sophie had also decided to quit her job, but she hadn’t told Andre about it. She wasn’t sure if it would be alright to ask him for his help with money after what had happened. She didn’t quit because of his offer but because of the fact that her hours had been drastically cut down even more over the past month. She knew they were getting ready to just fire her, but she didn’t want to give them the chance to do that, so she quit instead. Of course, with the money she would be getting after the 9 months she didn’t really need to worry about having her job and because Andre paid for her groceries and her toiletries, she was allowed to use the credit card for pretty much anything she needed.
“That’s cool, and have you told your parents yet?” her friend asked.
Sophie shook her head. She was grateful for the fact that she hadn’t started showing that much so when she had visited her mother and father just a few weeks ago they couldn’t even tell she was pregnant. She was still too scared to tell them, and she wondered if she ever would. There could be a chance that she could hide the pregnancy from them altogether. She knew it wouldn’t be easy because the further along she got the more excises she would have to make for not seeing them, but she also thought that it could just work out easier that way.
“You know I can’t tell them yet, or maybe not ever,” she admitted.
“You cannot think that you can hide this from them,” Olivia exclaimed.
“Well they don’t know right now and I’m almost halfway. So, I could get away with it if I do it right,” she said.
“Sophie, don’t you think they should know?” Olivia asked.
“No, it has nothing to do with them, they don’t need to know anything,” Sophie said.
She knew that it didn’t have anything to do with them and she also knew they wouldn’t understand her choice either so why would she put herself through having to explain her reasoning behind being a surrogate?
“Alright, I’m not going to say anything more about it then but just be careful,” Olivia replied.
“You’ve told me that already and yes, I am being careful about it,” she said.
She was lying, she was lying through her teeth, but Olivia didn’t need to know that she actually had feelings for Andre. She had tried not to allow herself to feel something for him but after spending time with him and seeing what kind of a man he was she couldn’t stop herself. She wondered if maybe she should just swallow her pride and talk to him about the night, they shared but she also didn’t want to face any sort of rejection from him. It’s possible that their night together was just a one-time thing that didn’t mean anything to Andre.
He didn’t seem like that type of guy, but she also knew that she also didn’t really know him that well yet so he could be completely different compared to how he acts around her.
“I just want to make sure that everything is still fine. I don’t want you to get hurt or involved in a way that could damage you in the long run. You’re my best friend and I just want to make sure you’re okay,” Olivia said gently.
“I appreciate it and I appreciate you, and I promise the minute something is not working I will come to you until then just trust me. I have everything under control,” Sophie said.
She knew that if she were to talk to Andre and things would go wrong, she could call Olivia for help, she knew that if she needed somewhere to stay, her house was still available. She had made sure to go every couple of days just to make sure it wasn’t gathering dust and often she found herself wanting to stay at her house just because she missed her old life. The life she had before becoming pregnant.
The surprising part for Sophie was the fact that being pregnant didn’t feel that strange to her. Of course, she could feel that there was a tiny human inside of her, but it didn’t feel as weird as she had thought it would be. She had suspected that the feeling of being pregnant would be strange for her but really, she felt rather comfortable. Her body had adapted easily to the transition which just made her feel more confident in the choice she had made.
She didn’t mind the feeling of pregnancy either, it made her feel as if she had a purpose and she loved that feeling.

“Okay, good. How has your work taken the news of the pregnancy?” Olivia asked.
“Well, I haven’t told anyone this but, I quit,” she said.
“What do you mean you quit? Sophie, you loved that job. I mean what are you going to do when this is all over? You’ll have nothing to fall back on and you can’t expect Mr. Billionaire to help you after your job is done,” Olivia said.
“I don’t expect Andre to help me with anything when this is over, and I did not quit because of all of this either. They had been cutting back on my hours for months now, even before I took the surrogacy position. I just felt that now would be the best time for me to leave. I can still look for something now and again so when I’m ready to start working I’ll have something to go back to,” she explained.
“And in the meantime? What will you do now?” Olivia asked.
