Chapter 6

Andre.

Two months later.

Andre and Sophie had been living together for two months and although there had been some awkward times especially after the pregnancy was positive, they had formed a routine around living together.

It wasn’t easy but when Sophie was told she was pregnant Andre couldn’t believe it. It had taken a few weeks to be confirmed but then Sophie was 2 weeks pregnant with everything looking good for her and the baby. The weeks flew by and Andre was so excited that everything had worked out.

He couldn’t deny that spending more time with Sophie didn’t make him feel good, better than he had for a while and even though they still lived separate lives most of the time Sophie was always willing to let Andre read a story to the baby so it could know his voice.

“How are you feeling?” he asked Sophie as they sat together on his couch. He had just finished reading a story to the baby while Sophie sat quietly listening.

“I’ve been fine. I’m getting a little sick in the mornings but nothing too crazy,” she admitted.

“And you’re feeling good about the whole thing otherwise?” he asked. Of course, Sophie seemed really comfortable and at home with Andre. She had taken his credit card a few weeks before and done some decoration shopping for her side so it really looked like home, but Andre was worried that the further along she got, the more scared she would get and reconsider their agreement.

“I’m fine Andre, really. I have no complaints and even though this is a weird feeling,” she said as she pointed at her stomach, “I’m really happy to be here.”

Andre smiled, happy that Sophie was still okay.

“Would you like to stay for dinner?” he asked.

They hadn’t had dinner together since her first night at his house and although they spent a few minutes together every day Andre felt that it would be good for them to spend more time together, he really enjoyed her company because it didn’t make him feel so alone.

“I would like that,” she said with a smile.

“Oh, great. Is there anything you’d like?” he asked.

“Mashed potatoes and spaghetti Bolognese. It’s so weird but that’s what the baby wants,” she laughed as she patted her stomach gently.

“Well, mashed potatoes and spaghetti Bolognese it is then,” he replied as he got up from the couch and rummaged through his kitchen.

He pulled all the ingredients out and started to prepare everything, it was by chance that he had everything needed to fulfill her cravings.

“Can I help with anything?” she asked.

“Oh, no. You can just sit there and look pretty,” he joked.

Sophie laughed in return but did as she was told as she switched on the TV and started to watch something she liked.

“How has work been lately?” she asked.

“It’s been great. I have officially created the first watch and fridge duo that can track the usage of all the food in the fridge so it can order what you need when it’s low. It took ages to get the food database wide enough to be able to differentiate between different foods, but we got there,” he replied with a wide grin.

Andre had found it extremely hard when it came to be concentrating at work, especially when it was the implantation phase of the procedure. He was nervous as he waited for days to find out if the egg had been planted but he still had to stay focused at work. It was a hard few weeks but once the pregnancy was confirmed it kicked him into overdrive and so within a matter of days, he had perfected his smartwatch and fridge duo with the help of his team.

“That’s amazing. When will you launch it?” she asked.

“That’s still to be discussed but it could be next month,” he replied as he peeled and chopped the potatoes before placing them in the pot, he already had boiling.

“You must be so proud of yourself,” Sophie said as she turned her attention to him. She had been turning to face him and then turning back to face the TV.

“I’m proud of my business. I wouldn’t be here without my team. I’m just happy that with this new invention I will be leaving something great behind for my child, that’s my biggest dream,” he said.

The most important thing to Andre was leaving behind something as great as what his father had left behind for him. Money was easy to have and although he was a billionaire that didn’t need a business to have an income, he wanted to leave a legacy that could continue for generations after him.

“Your child is very lucky to have you, really,” Sophie said.

“I hope he or she feels the same. When my father was still around, I honestly looked up to him like he was the king of the world and I hope I can make the same impact. He wasn’t always the best you know but he tried,” Andre said.

The friendship he was forming with Sophie was better than any friendship he had, and he wondered if they’d still remain friends after the baby. He felt that their bond was getting stronger every day. He made sure not to get too attached to her, he knew that wouldn’t be a good idea but the more time he spent with her the more he was certain that she had come along at the right time.

“I know what you mean. My parents gave me everything they could, making sure I succeeded, and I can never thank them enough for it. I still haven’t told them about all of this,” she said as she pointed to him and the baby, “I don’t think they’d be proud of me or even understand why I did it.”

“Sometimes you have to do what you have to do without the approval of your parents. If it makes you feel any better, I’m grateful you did this,” Andre said as he walked over and touched her stomach.

Sophie sat still while he rested his hand on her, the feeling of warmth and love rushed through Andre as he thought of his baby, but he also felt a sense of love and gratitude toward Sophie, she was an important part of his life.

Andre could feel the tension building in the room around them as the air seemed to get thinner, he removed his hand quickly and cleared his throat as he walked back to the kitchen to check on the Bolognese sauce he had started.
