Sophie looked around at the kitchen and the lounge which looked almost similar to Andre’s side. He led her down the small section of the hallway that was left on her side that would lead her to her bedroom that had an ensuite bathroom. Andre placed her bags in her room and walked back to the door so she could have a little time to look around.

Everything was spread out evenly around her side of the house so even though it was a little smaller than her house, it was still really spacious.

“This is really nice, thank you so much,” she said as she finished looking.

“I want you to feel at home, so feel free to decorate or move things around. We’re going to be housemates essentially, so I want you to feel comfortable,” he replied.

“That means a lot, thanks. So, you were saying something about dinner? I’m actually starving,” she said.

“Well, I didn’t get very far before you showed up so maybe we can continue together? It can give us more time to talk,” Andre suggested.

He wondered if she had figured out that they went to school together yet because she hadn’t looked at him much differently from when they had met a few hours before.

“I know a thing or two about cooking, so I’d be happy to help,” she replied.

“Oh, great. I’ve already started the prep for the chicken so maybe you can help with the vegetables?” he suggested.

“That sounds like a plan to me,” she agreed.

Andre led the way back to his side of the house and put out the vegetables for her. The atmosphere between them was a little awkward but also friendly as they worked in silence around the kitchen. Andre continued to spice the chicken before rubbing it with butter and placing it in the preheated oven.

“That might take a while and I think we’ll only need to place the vegetables in near the end so shall we sit and talk for a while maybe?” Andre asked as Sophie stood in the kitchen finished with her chopping duty.

“Alright, what shall we talk about?” she asked as she sat down at the chair by the kitchen counter.

“Well, tell me about yourself,” Andre said, “what do you do? What are your hobbies, etc.”

“Currently I am a store manager, but they’ve cut down on my hours a lot lately, so I don’t know if I’m even the store manager anymore. In my free time I don’t really do much. I mean, I like to read and sometimes I do active things like hiking but really I love to work so I usually do that.” she replied, “and what do you do?”

“I own a company that makes and sells smartwatches. I know it’ll continue to grow over time, so I plan on leaving it to my child, which is obviously where you come in,” he said.

“Isn’t that rather demanding? I mean, you have to keep up with all the latest trends and demands of people,” she asked.

“That’s the fun part for me. I like the pressure and plus, I like being the best which is what I strive for every day,” he replied.

“So, if you’re out there, pushing the boundaries for watches when will you have time to look after a baby?” Sophie asked.

He knew she had a point, everyone knew that he loved his job, but he also knew he would give it up for a child.

“I think as hard it may be to completely let work go, I know I want a child and I’d do whatever needed to look after that child. I’ve already planned with my brother to give him the company for a while and then when the time is right, I’d go back,” he replied.

“That’s really nice of your brother to do for you,” she said.

“Well, he doesn’t have much of a choice really. I’m the reason he has a job so he can’t fight me on anything.” Andre joked.

“Sounds like a fair deal to me,” Sophie replied.

“So, you don’t remember me at all, do you?” Andre asked.

Sophie looked a bit taken aback before she shook her head softly.

“That’s okay, I am three years younger than you, so I suppose in school we didn’t have much contact, besides you were the prettiest girl in school which made you way out of my league,” he replied.

“You did look familiar I just couldn’t tell where from and I didn’t want to be rude by asking so I let it go. But you’re being silly. I wasn’t the prettiest girl in school,” she said with a gentle laugh.

The awkwardness between them evaporated instantly as they talked about school for a while. It felt comfortable to have something in common to talk about which made getting to know each other that much easier.

It didn’t matter so much to Andre that Sophie didn’t remember him. If he were still in high school, he would without a doubt still be affected by it, but it made things a lot easier because at least he knew that no feelings could get involved between them. He would hate for things to get complicated when it came to be having a baby. Of course, he would like them to be friends so they could be partners over the next 9 months.

The timer went off for the chicken to be checked and while Sophie got up to check it Andre set the table for dinner.

“It looks amazing so far, I’m sure it’ll taste amazing too,” Sophie said as she placed some more butter on top of the chicken.

“I will have to thank my friend one day for helping me out. I don’t know the first thing about cooking, to be honest, but I guess I’ll have to learn,” he said.

“I know I few things, so I’ll help you learn if you’d like,” Sophie said.

“That would be great, I would really appreciate that,” Andre replied excitedly.

He looked forward to being able to spend more time with her just to make sure that they had a good relationship throughout the pregnancy. He knew that for her to be happy while pregnant the environment she was surrounded by had to be the best. He wanted the baby and Sophie not to feel any sort of stress.

“By the way, what made you think of being a surrogate? I don’t mean to pry but it’s a big thing you know. I mean, you’re going to be carrying my child which isn’t exactly a normal job situation,” he said.

Sophie placed the vegetables in with the chicken as she placed it back in the oven before she took her seat once more.
