The moment couldn’t have been more perfect and Catherine’s heart began to ache because her parents weren’t there to see it and not only that, Ryan’s parent’s weren’t there to see the type of man their son had grown up to be. Catherine’s parents had always talked about blessings in disguises and while her heart wished they could both be there to celebrate the importance of the day, she knew on some level, they would always be with both of them.
“Are you ready to go, babe?” Ryan asked as he stepped back towards Catherine, kissing the top of her shoulder. “I think we have a few interviews we agreed to do. One for your company, one for the Conservation and one at the local high school. We should probably get started on that. It’s a busy day.”
Catherine nodded her head in response and turned to walk back to Ryan’s SUV with her hand clutched in his. A small smile lifted the corner of Catherine’s mouth as she stuck her hand in the back pocket of her jeans and felt the edges of a folded up piece of paper.
“You know, I actually forgot something,” Catherine said suddenly, turning her attention towards Ryan. “Start the car and I’ll be there in a few minutes, okay?”
“Sure thing,” Ryan replied as he meandered off towards the Range Rover.
The distance back to the plaque that was hanging near one of the biggest trees in the Snow Drift Park was less than a three minute walk and Catherine pulled the piece of paper from her pants pocket. She took her time, waving good bye to the crowd that had began to separate as she inched towards her parents’ name.

Tucked beneath the bottom of the plaque was a small opening that led to a locked box that Catherine had requested so she could leave notes for her parents. Without asking why, Ryan had the plaque and box made to Catherine’s specifications and she breathed a sigh of relief as she opened up the first note she left for them. She smiled, thankful for her life as she slid the letter into its allotted spot, knowing that it would be safe and for their eyes only for the rest of the time.
“Dear Mom and Dad,
I did it. I can safely say that I made you proud in more ways than one and I can wake up every day with that in my heart. I miss you terribly, say hi to Ryan’s parents’ for me, wherever you are.
P.S. My boyfriend is a werewolf.”
The end.
