Chapter 3

We went over to the gas station.  Cameron was there, and Donte felt happy with this.  He was excited to have his friend back, and just seeing the man made him happy.  I was glad that he was happy, for I didn’t know if we would be able to get out of here.  Of course, the last thing I wanted was to stay in this hellhole of a town, that’s for sure.  When we got inside, Cameron was looking right at Donte with a smile on his face.

“Hey there Donte,” Cameron said.

“Hey man.  How you been?” Donte asked.  Cameron came over and they embraced each other, both of them happy with each other.  They were definitely friends, but Alice noticed something off about their friendship.

“Not much.  Just working my job.  I’m definitely not feeling it today though, that’s for sure,” he admitted.

“I know the feel.  Back when I actually lived a normal human life, I didn’t like working all the damn time.  It made things a whole hell of a lot harder than they were supposed to be,” Donte said.

“Same here.  But what are you here for?  I don’t think you would just come to a one-horse town in order to just shoot the breeze right?” Cameron asked.

“Well no.  We’re here because we need gas.  We have to get to Montana,” he replied.

Cameron looked at Donte like he was crazy.  I just stood there wondering what to say.  There was something off about the man.  I didn’t think it was just because he was a biker-looking guy or anything.  But then again, I don’t know what to believe.  Donte looked at Cameron with a wary glance, obviously noticing the same thing as I did.

“Alice, do you notice something funny here, or is it just me?” Donte asked.

“No, I notice it too,” I replied.  I didn’t trust this Cameron guy one bit.  Even looking at him made my stomach churn in worry and knots.  I didn’t like it, but then again I didn’t know what else to say.  I wanted to be sure that he was a good guy, but my gut instinct was telling me to run the fu*k away.

“Donte, we’ve been friends forever.  I’m happy that you were able to get away from Raphael’s grasp and are able to actually live your own life.  It’s fun isn’t it?” Cameron asked.

“Says you.  You’re acting weird, and I can tell that you’re not fully away from Raphael just yet.  There’s something odd about you, and I know it,” Donte replied.

“What, are you going all crazy conspiracy theorist now Donte?  That’s not like you, you know?” Cameron said.  He had a sly grin on his face, and when I saw it I felt my skin crawl.

“Cut the crap Cameron.  I know you’re working with Raphael.  Some friend,” Donte said.

“Yes.  He’s a spy,” I replied.

Cameron looked at me with an angry glance.  “You! How could you see through me?” he spat.

“Because, I can tell that you’re lying.  Your hand was right over a stake, and I can tell that there is someone right behind me about to capture me,” I replied.

Cameron smiled, before I could do anything I felt something sink into my stomach.  I didn’t think I was going to die, but the minute I felt it contact my body, I bowled over in pain.  It hurt so badly, and I could tell that it was some sort of poison.

“Damn.  What’s going on!” I screamed.  All of my energy was gone, and I was soon on the floor in pain.  Donte tried to help me, but it was too late.  There was no way he would be able to help me at this point, for I was stuck.  After a moment, I heard the same noise that I had heard when the other person attacked me, hit Donte and he bowled over in pain as well.  We both fell to the ground, and after a moment, I fell unconscious.  Was I going to die?  Hell, I didn’t even know anymore.

The next moments were weird for me.  I felt the force of a thud start to reverberate through my body.  I didn’t know what to do, but I felt weak.  I didn’t know where I was going, but a part of me hoped that it wasn’t anything bad.  Judging from the way I was thrown though, I was in the clutches of something evil.

I felt my body start to shiver when I was thrown down, and I didn’t know what to think about it.  I was scared, and after a bit I felt myself grow weaker and weaker.  By the time I came to, I noticed that my hands and feet were bound.  I was naked, and Donte was as well.  We were in a cave, and the dim light barely illuminated our faces.  I wondered what was going to happen to me, but I knew that whatever it was wasn’t good.  Donte tried to struggle, but even then it was a feeble attempt.  I looked at him, worry and fear plastered on my face.  I didn’t want to die here, not with the chance of possibly getting the hell out of here starting to eat away at me.  I looked around, fear starting to come over me.  I didn’t want to be scared, but I was worried.

“Where are we?” I asked.

“Probably in some holding place Raphael made.  I can’t move,” he said.

I nodded.  “I’m not able to either.  I’m scared,” I said.

“Don’t worry, I’m going to figure a way out of this,” he said.  I wanted to believe that it was all going to be okay.  To be honest, I wanted to get the hell out of here now before things got any worse.

We sat there, both of us unable to move.  There was a set of footsteps, and then a blinding light came over us.  I was sensitive to light once again.  Cameron was there, along with another vampire.  They both looked happy with the way things were going.  I didn’t know if they were the actual captors, or if they were sent by Raphael.

“Cameron!  You dirty traitor…” Donte said.

“You’re the traitor in my book Donte.  I can’t believe you decided to go against Raphael and try to escape.  There is no way to.  And frankly, you’re just wasting your energy trying to.  But relax, I’ll make sure that you guys have a nice afterlife,” he said.

“What are you going to do?” Donte asked.  I could tell that he was as scared as I was when it came to this man.

“Simple, I’m going to starve you until Raphael gets here.  Then he’s going to stake you, and I’ll make sure I’m there to watch.  You’re a traitor Donte, and I know that you were going to come crawling to me.  I know that you’re desperate to change back, but why don’t you just stay with us.  Maybe if you grovel enough, Raphael would take you back.  I don’t think he will, since he knows that you’re nothing but a lowlife traitor,” Cameron said.
