“What’s wrong?” I asked.

“Well, I also would rather have you not see your family.  You did feed recently, but I can tell just from your kisses that the blood urge is strong.  I want to keep you at bay, and I don’t think we should kill anyone in your family.  That’s only going to make this trip a whole lot more awkward.  Plus, I do need to get that gas,” he admitted.

He was right.  I would probably try to feed on them if they did talk to me.  I could feel the crazy urge coming up in a slow manner but I know that the best thing to do was to take my time and be with Donte.  I don’t think human contact would be best for this situation.

“You have a point.  I’ll just stay with you.  I know that you’re here for me, and I do have a sort of family in you,” I admitted.

“Good.  I want you to remember that.  No matter what the hell happens, I’m always here for you Alice.  Don’t think that I’m some guy who’s going to leave you or anything, because I’m not.  I’m a strong man and I’m going to make sure that you’re safe and sound,” he admitted.

I felt honored when he said those words and I knew that he meant them.  We went back to kissing, our mouths passionately wanting each other.

“I did too. I’m happy that I have you.  I didn’t know if things were going to work out at first, but I know that it did.  I’m happy to have you Alice,” he said.

“I’m happy to have you too.  Let’s get the hell out of here,” I replied.

We finished up, both of us happy and satisfied.  I felt like the happiest woman in the world when I was around him.  I felt complete, whole and happy with the way things were panning out.  Maybe I was ready to have a real family, and maybe Donte and I could have one when we turned back into humans.  It was worth a shot, but I didn’t know anymore.

We walked over to the gas station, happy and satisfied with the way things were going.  What we didn’t realize though, is that there was someone waiting for us, and they were ready to take us down from the shadows.
