Chapter 5

I didn’t know if I did the right thing.  I assumed that I did, but as I got myself together, I was worried about it.  I mean, it was almost as if I was going into a dungeon.  But then again, this would be the final thing.  If this worked, I would be able to get back to my normal life.  I thought about it, and despite what the hell happened here, I was going to at least try to be happy.  Of course, I didn’t know how Donte would feel if we messed up again.  Would we continue to work together?  Or would things go sour for us because we’ve failed once again?  I really hoped that it wouldn’t but then again it hasn’t been the first time it occurred.  I felt bad. I didn’t want to doubt him, but at the same time I was worried about what would come next.

I decided to take a chance with all of this.  I followed Donte to where the house was.  It was a spacious bode, and a part of me wondered how in the world this woman stayed hidden from everyone for so long.  As if he could read my mind, Donte spoke.

“That’s her home.  Only ones who need to find her can see the house.  She’s a witch, but she’s a nice one like the other.  Gianna is a bit odd-looking from what I heard, which is another means to throw enemies off.  I know that for a fact because I read an eyewitness account of her and they were surprised she would be the one who would have such power.  Then again, she does have the power to manipulate her body and make it look different,” Donte explained.

I nodded; I understood.  I thought it was weird, but I know with a whole bunch of vampires after us, it was definitely better to hide these sort of things from them.  It could be the best source of protection in her mind, and that might be another reason why this place was hidden.  I could feel the magical energy emitting from the home when I walked up to it, my mind a bit shocked at the difference in temperature I felt as well.  I guess this is another means of protecting herself too.

“I’ll knock on the door,” Donte said.  I nodded.  He walked up to it and rapt the door.  There was a pause, and after a moment he did it again.  Then there was the sound of a thud, followed by the sound of things opening.  The door started to open for us, and then I saw the person in front of me.  It was something that I never imagined I would see, that’s for sure.

Instead of seeing an older woman like I thought I would, I instead got a little kid.  She had along, pink hair and purple eyes.  She looked at us with a curious glance, and for a moment I wondered if we got the wrong person.

“You don’t have to knock three times you know,” the woman retorted.

I knew it was the right one.  She had the voice of an older woman, despite the fact that she had a hood shrouding her face in an attempt to hide herself from us.

“Hello there.  You’re Gianna right?” Donte asked.

The woman huffed, looking at Donte with a shrewd glance.  “And what if I am?  What do you want from me?” she asked.

Geez this woman was rude.  I was about to say something regarding this lady’s manners, but before I could I was stopped by Donte.  He looked at me, and then I noticed that he had the gaze that screamed I shouldn’t mess with this woman.  She was rude, but I could feel the magical energy coming from her the moment I stepped closer.  I was not going to mess with that power.

“Hello there.  We’re here for some help,” Donte said.

“What kind of help?  If it’s trying to defeat someone, I’m not interested.  I’m getting old, and I don’t have time for childish wars that go on forever,” the woman replied.

I listened to her, wondering what in the world this chick was all about.  She seemed to be a crotchety old woman, but I wondered if that was just a façade that she put up in order to keep things going.  I didn’t know what in the world to think, but I did want to trust this woman’s judgment.  She might be a bi*ch, but she did have what we needed.

“It’s nothing like that.  I’m not letting you get involved in any sort of war,” Donte replied.  His voice was serious, and I could tell he was trying to appease this woman.  She already screamed mega bi*ch to me, so I didn’t think it would work.  Then again, there was always the weird chance that it might.

The woman looked at us and then huffed.  I really hoped she wasn’t this much of a bi*ch all the time.  This was only going to get worse if so.  But we did need her help, and I did want her to help us.  She was the only chance we had.

“Then what is it?  You seem like you’re here for something else,” the woman said.  I looked at Gianna with curiosity.  What was her deal?

“We heard you had a way to reverse the vampirism in our bodies.  My partner and I have been turned, but we don’t want to be put under that pressure anymore.  We want to have a better life, but it requires some help from you.  We tried to talk to another person, but she passed away.  The people who are after us attacked her home, and we managed to escape.  But we want to change back to the way we were before, and I would love it if you were able to help us,” Donte explained.

“Please.  I want to turn back,” I added.  I knew I probably sounded like a desperate loser when I talked to her, but there was no way I could just sit there and say nothing.  I wanted to let her know how important this was to us, and even if I did sound like a loser, at least she would know that I was serious about what I wanted.

The woman huffed, looking at us with a wry smile.  “So you are vampires.  I could tell the minute you walked in through the door, but I was worried that you would attack me.  Then I noticed that your spirits are nice, and you’re not here to kill me.  I know I made the right decision when I let you in,” she explained.

Wow, this woman was something.  Donte was about to speak, but I spoke the words I wanted to utter.  “So, you trust us?” I asked.

“I do.  I know that you two are young, so you probably have no clue what in the world is really going on with everything.  The thing is, I have been trying to hide myself for the longest time.  I don’t want people to find me to be honest.  The reasoning for this is because if they do, they’ll try to recruit me into their foolish fu*king wars.  I’m not in for that type of game.  I’m an old woman, and although I am a magical healer, I only want to use my power for good.  That’s why I asked, because if you were really here for something like that, then I would have to personally dispose of you,” she said.

I gulped.  I wonder how much power this woman had.  She seemed strong, but at the same time I could sense a sense of frailty attached to her.  She might have the face of a young kid, but she is an older woman.  I know that she probably doesn’t want to get involved in trivial matters such as fights.  She’s probably just trying to keep the peace at this point.
