A Vampire To Love

Chapter 4

We were safe once again, at least for now.  I looked around, the worry of the situation getting the best of me.  Donte looked at me and held my hand, squeezing it in a light manner.

“Don’t worry, we’re going to be safe,” he said.

“How do you know that?” I asked.

“Because there is no way Raphael will spend all the extra energy trying to go after us at the moment.  We have a chance to get away, and we need to take it.  I think we should get as close to Montana as possible, and if we’re near the location, we need to take a bit of time to camp out.  We can formulate a plan there, and with that we’ll be able to save our tails before things get any worse than they already are,” he explained.

I nodded, understanding this man.  He was easy to talk to, and Donte knew what to do.  I was still scared sh*tless. I had no idea if our plans were even going to work.  I thought it was stupid to continue like this, and I knew that we couldn’t run away forever.  I had to admit, I was excited to visit this person.  Maybe they would be able to help us out.

I looked at Donte and thought about him as well.  We might be able to get out of this.  We would have to put a lot of things at stake in order to win this.  We needed to believe in ourselves, but I didn’t know if things would get any better.  I would assume so, but I wasn’t completely sure of myself anymore.  Donte grasped my hand, squeezing it in a hard, but reassuring way.

“Don’t be afraid to tell me what’s wrong Alice.  I’m your man, and I will still love you regardless,” he said.

I smiled, a blush coursing across my face.  I hated to admit it, but I know that I had a lot of faith in Donte.  I had a lot of things at stake, but he was going to make it better.  Still, I had a shadow of a doubt.

“I don’t know.  We have a lot at stake, and we’re putting all this energy into one person.  I don’t know if we’ll be able to.  I know that I have these blood urges, and for the moment they are satiated, but we need to think about the chances of getting out of this alive.  Do you think we can?” I asked.

“Honestly, I think so.  We’re both very strong right now, and with the drive being long I’ll be able to only expend a tiny bit of energy to drive.  Once we get to a safe place, we’ll hide out until the daytime.  Then we’ll drive again.  We just have to keep our blood levels up.  There are a ton of animals out here, and I’ll kill them for you so that you don’t have to see the carnage.  There are a lot of factors to take into play, but I can assure you that I’ll protect you.  You’re my family, and you’re also the only thing that I have left.  It would be foolish of me to not help you out in this time of need,” he said.

I listened to those words, and at this point I did believe him.  Donte was a good man, and I was happy to have this man in my lie.  I was excited about going further with him, and I didn’t really know what to do otherwise.  He’s my man, and I know it’s something I’ll be able to keep in mind when the road gets tough.  He’s here for me, something I’ve never had up until now.

We continued to drive, and about eight hours later we finally made it to the area.  Donte was driving at a lightning speed, and I didn’t even know how the hell we got there so fast.  I guess he helped to make us speed up or something.  He drove to a small entrance to a forest, and after a moment he turned to me.

“This is the area where the woman is supposed to live.  Her name is Gianna.  She is a beautiful woman who is able to help us.  I know that she lives out in the middle of nowhere, but I think it’s for the best.  I can tell that the last thing she wants is people disturbing the peace around here,” he said.

I agreed.  It was a peaceful area, and I could see down the river there was a set of houses.  She had to be one of those.

“Is she down there?” I asked.

“Yes, but I’m not going anywhere near there until we’re ready to see her.  She is around there somewhere, and when we get there I can tell that things will get better,” he explained.

I nodded, my mind excited for what was to come.  I had to take a chance, and I had to believe in Donte.  We sat in the car, killing the engine and just sitting there for a moment.  All of a sudden, I felt Donte start to unbuckle his seatbelt.  He looked at me with a “come hither” look on his face.  I nodded, stumbling over to where he was and sitting on his lap.

“I’m happy to have you Alice.  I really am.  I don’t think I would’ve ever made it this far had you not have helped me.  The hairpin idea was brilliant.  I didn’t realize they were silver clips until after I poked the other guy in the eye.  He looked familiar though, and I don’t know if there’s anything fishy about him.  But then I saw that there was silver in them, and I thought that I could use it to get rid of Cameron.  I can’t believe he betrayed me like that, but at the same time I know why.  He probably did it in order to get to Raphael and stay on his good side.  There are spies like that everywhere, but I didn’t think Cameron would become one,” he said.

“Same here.  I could tell something was off about him though.  He was acting really fu*king weird and I could see the look on his face that screamed he wanted to kill you,” I replied.

“Sh*t.  I never imagined he would be like that.  But then again, people are always trying to mess things up,” he said.

“True that.  But at least we’re alive,” I said.
