“I’m going to have to put you on probation,” said Vince. “Sorry, Jazz, that’s just how it is.”
“How am I supposed to earn any money while I’m on probation?” asked Chantal. “This is ridiculous and completely unnecessary. Yeah, I fu*ked up, but how is this going to help anything at all? Just let me work, I need this job, you know I do. Let me do what I’m supposed to do and I’ll work better than ever before. Come on, Vince.”
“It’s just a one month probation,” said Vince. “You’ll be fine.”
“A whole month!” said Chantal. “Are you seriously saying that I’m going to be fine? What am I going to do for rent next month? How am I going to eat? How am I going to do anything at all?”
“That’s not my problem,” said Vince. “You should have thought of this before you gave someone your number and put our entire operation in jeopardy. You should have thought of this before you acted so selfishly and gave your number to some asshole that said two nice words to you.”
“What the fu*k are you talking about?” said Chantal.
“I listened to your conversation, Chantal,” said Vince. “It’s obvious that the guy was just trying to get into your pants. It’s obvious that he was only saying those things because he wanted some easy pu*sy. You were so easily fooled, I swear. It’s ridiculous. Pretty pathetic, in fact. I can’t believe that you would just give yourself away like that to just anyone. Is that really how lowly you think of yourself? That you would just allow yourself to be used in such a way? I feel so sorry for you, Chantal.”
“Why are you saying these things?” asked Chantal, tears filling up her eyes. “I get it, I fu*ked up, but you don’t have to… I mean… why are you being so mean. You have no right to comment on stuff like that, no right at all.”
“I’m just telling you how it is,” said Vince. “This is just the way things work. Guys don’t call phone s*x lines to fall in love. They call because they want to get off. And let me tell you something. Every guy, and I mean every single guy that calls a girl wants to have s*x with her in real life. He wants to fu*k her and feel her body, because you girls are nothing but s*xual outlets for these guys. They don’t look at you as people. They look at you as objects. That’s just the way the world works, baby doll. Get used to it.
“Next time a guy tries to get your number, just say no. Say it for your own sake if nothing else. I can guarantee you that that guy wants nothing except your pu*sy. As much as he makes you feel like he cares and that he loves you and that he wants to respect you, once he’s fu*ked you, he’s going to leave. Even if you have fu*ked him and he hasn’t left yet, I can guarantee you that he is going to leave at the first sign of trouble. You’re not worth it to him. You’re a good girl, but to this guy you’re nothing but a wh*re. I’m a guy, trust me on this. I know guys.”
Chantal cut the call and started to sob. What was Vince doing? Why on Earth would he say all of these terrible things to her? Didn’t he have a conscience? Didn’t he realize that the things he was saying would end up hurting her feelings, making her feel worthless and low? What did he think was going on? Was this all a game to him?
Chantal then began to realize that maybe he had a point, maybe he was genuinely looking out for her. Maybe he wasn’t trying to be mean. She thought about it and realized that this fit into her suspicion that Michael was just using her as some kind of pill to make him feel better about himself, to make him feel like everything that had happened in his past was over.
She was sure that he didn’t realize he was doing it, but even so if this was the case then it was going to take a lot of time for her to be able to get over him. When it came up, she didn’t think that she was going to be able to handle it at all. She didn’t think that she would be able to bear the thought of him leaving her after realizing that he didn’t really feel the way that he thought he felt.
She was completely and utterly depressed. She didn’t know what to do. She didn’t know how to feel. She didn’t know what to think. She needed to talk to Michael. She didn’t even want to confront him, she just wanted him there because he was a calming presence. She just wanted him to tell her that everything was okay, because when he said it, Chantal actually believed it, even if it was only just for a little while.
She called him and asked him if he was free. He told her that he was, in fact, free and that he would love to meet her right now.

Chantal hurriedly got dressed and traveled to his apartment where he was waiting for her. He opened the door and gave her one of his trademark wide smiles. Chantal immediately felt calm. She immediately felt like everything she was doing was silly, because how could he possibly feel anything else but love for her if he smiled like that? How could he be anything but genuine with her if he smiled like that?
“Hey,” said Chantal softly.
“Hey,” said Michael. “I really missed you. Come on in.”
Chantal went in and turned around. Michael hugged her close. Chantal moaned as he did so. He was such a good hugger, he made everything feel like it was going to be okay. She nuzzled her face into his chest and held him tight. He responded by increasing his own pressure as well to make her feel good. She loved that. She loved that he always responded to her pressure. It made her feel like all of this was not one sided. It made her feel like he genuinely felt the way that he claimed to feel about her.
Michael held her hand and guided her to the sofa where they sat down. Chantal rested her head on his shoulder. “I got put on probation,” said Chantal. “My boss found out that I had given you my number and he put me on probation for a whole month.”
