Chapter 7

Chantal was nervous. She didn’t know if she was dressing appropriately or not. She didn’t know if she would have to dress casually or more formally. She asked Michael and he told her that they were going to go to a more upscale place so she should probably try to dress as formally as possible.

Chantal had in her possession a single dress. She never really got the chance to wear the dresses that she had always wanted to wear, so she never saw the point in wasting her money on clothes that she was never going to wear in the first place. She decided to take the dress out and try it on and was surprised to find that it still fit her perfectly even though it was a dress from a long time ago.

She looked around and saw that her room was a mess. This concerned her for some reason, even though Michael was not going to be coming upstairs at all. He was going to arrive downstairs and tell her that he was there, and she was going to go down and meet him.

She ended up getting dressed half an hour before he was going to pick her up. They had wanted to get to the place a little early so that they could talk a little bit before ordering dinner, so they had decided on six pm as the time at which they should meet.

Chantal spent the time she had left before Michael was going to get her with Fran. Fran was always good at calming her down, and she consoled her by telling her that she looked gorgeous. They watched comedy videos on the internet for a while and then Michael called her to tell her that he was there.

Chantal felt as if her heart was going to fall out of her chest. She honestly had no idea how to feel right now, how to behave. Hence, she decided to just be herself. Fran had told her that being herself was the best thing that Chantal could do right now, so she decided to go with her best friends judgment.

She went downstairs and she saw Michael leaning against his car. It looked like an incredibly expensive car, the kind of car that only a man that was as rich as Michael would be able to afford. Chantal wanted him to know how good he looked right then. She wanted him to realize just how attractive she found him.

She wondered why a man that was as rich as Michael would want to go out with her. Couldn’t he get practically any girl that he desired? He could literally go out into the streets and a dozen girls would probably end up flocking to him. He was extremely good looking and he also gave off the aura that he was an alpha male. He looked rich from the cut of his clothes and the way he walked and this would also prove to be very attractive to pretty much every single woman that he met.

She walked up to him, striking all of these thoughts from her mind. He noticed her walking towards him, smiled a dazzling smile and rushed towards her. “Hey there!” said Michael walking up to her as he spoke. “You look absolutely stunning!”

“Thank you,” said Chantal, beaming. “You look really great too. Where are we going anyway?”

“It’s a really good place,” said Michael. “They serve Italian food. Do you like Italian food by any chance?”

“I do!” said Chantal.

Michael held open the door for her and she got in. He was such a perfect gentleman, the very epitome of all things masculine. She really enjoyed being here with him. She really enjoyed the fact that he was being so nice to her, that he was treating her like she was royalty.

She smiled at him as he entered the car and he smiled back. “So,” said Michael, starting his car up and driving. “How are you?”

“I’m pretty good,” said Chantal. “I might have had a shift tonight and I was worried that I might have to forego a shift in order to have dinner with you but thankfully my boss called me and told me that my shift is tomorrow night.”

“It really su*ks that you have to do stuff like this,” said Michael. “What degree do you have? I might be able to help you find a job.”

“That’s so sweet,” said Chantal. “I have a degree in English literature. I would really appreciate some help but I think it’s better if I do this on my own, you know? I just think that it would be more effective if I work on my own and do my own thing and manage all of my finances independently. I’ve just never really accepted any help from anyone before and I’d rather not start doing it now. Thank you for the offer though, you’re so sweet!”

“Don’t mention it,” said Michael with a smile. “Just trying to help in any way I can. How was your shift at the phone s*x company?”

“Pretty good,” said Chantal. “There was this one guy that was a little tough. He was drunk and he started swearing at me. I cut the call immediately and reported his number. He won’t be able to call us again from that number at least.”

“That must’ve been so scary,” said Michael. “I’m so sorry that you had to go through that. I really wish that men learned to respect women.”

“They just assume that women are their punching bags,” said Chantal. “They assume that because they are talking to me over the phone I don’t have feelings, that I won’t be affected by what they do or say. I wish they’d realize that I’m a person, you know? I am affected by what they say to me. That drunk guy called me a sl*t. How did he expect me to feel? Did he feel bad afterwards? I hope he did. I hope he wasn’t a terrible person who would say something awful like that to somebody and not realize that they might be hurt by it.”

“He called you what?” said Michael. “That is utterly despicable. How dare he talk to you like that? You must have a lot of patience. I would’ve been so angry if someone had talked to me like that, or anyone that I love.”
