How could they perform in front of all of these people? She already felt nervous, just standing to the side of the stage by the security was standing around and looking intimidating. But, as the first band took the stage, she was astonished with how comfortable and how calm they were. By the time they were finished, it was like the whole world was on fire for them. She shook her head and applauded while she looked at them. They left the stage, sweaty, congratulating those who were waiting for them behind the stage, clapping hands and cheering for them just like the fans.

Up next was Violet and when she heard Violet White’s name called, the whole arena was illuminated in purple and white, pop music flooding the arena, and the audience was going nuts with what was being piped in to them. It was like a holy experience for the thousands of people on their feet, screaming and calling after her. It was unlike anything that she had seen or experienced before and it was awe inspiring. It was haunting to see how excited everyone was. It was like they would have been willing to sell their first born just to get a glimpse at Violet.

When she took the stage, she looked like a goddess of s*x and music. She stalked out on high-heeled pumps, marching like she knew exactly what she was doing and there was nothing that could stop her. She smiled, all legs, curves, and bre*sts. Her eyes were wide, her face impossibly painted in make up that made her look as flawless as an angel.

She was as magnificent as any woman that Lucy had ever seen and she immediately felt completely under-prepared for James. How could he have cheated on her last night, gotten her pregnant, and turned his back on this woman. She looked like the kind of s*x icon that millions of people all across the world would have killed for. And yet, he was completely fine with cheating on her. This was proof that men would never be happy, no matter whom they were with.

The concert went off without a hitch and for over an hour, Violet stalked the stage, singing songs that Lucy actually recognized from TV shows and stores that she had been to. She watched her strutting around the stage, like it was home for her, seducing the crowd and turning them all into mindless, euphoric creatures. It was hard not to stop and wonder what it was that was unattractive about her to James.

Why would he risk his chances with a woman that was nothing but dark haired, bright-eyed s*x appeal, for a woman that he’d just met? That didn’t make any sense to her, but she wanted to think that it was something more. She wanted to hope that there was more going on here than just a lecherous man getting it off with the new girl. She would never be able to forgive herself. All she could think about was the fact that she wasn’t going to ever be able to compare to her. It was bitter and horrifying to think she was probably just a byproduct of a man’s s*x addiction. She couldn’t believe that James could treat women this way. But, there it was. That was the truth of the situation and it burned. It hurt deep.

When the show was over, she watched as Violet said farewell to her fans, all of them standing on their feet shouting as she looked at them with a smile on her dazzling face. There was something about her that was hypnotic, not only to the fans, but to Lucy, too. As she made her way down off the stage, there was a throng of people waiting for her, from her publicist to her manager, so many people eagerly awaiting her as they embraced her and carried her off to mingle with her entourage and her friends that had come along with her.

Lucy watched her go and felt like there was something she should do. She should reach out and talk to her or say something to her, but she didn’t know what to do. At the same time, she thought she had a kindred interest with Violet, but she also hated her and resented her. She wanted to have the one thing that Violet had right now that she didn’t have. Heck, that was a lie. Violet was an international sensation and a s*x icon for millions while she sat in a golden tower counting her hundred dollar bills. Lucy couldn’t compete with that and there was a lot that she had that Lucy didn’t have. But one thing, and perhaps the only thing, that mattered was that she had James. That was something she couldn’t abide and couldn’t tolerate.

When Violet was gone, it wasn’t long before the real show started and when The Pride took the stage, it was something out of a movie, watching how the audience swelled and cheered, roaring in excitement as James took to the front of the stage and introduced himself. As she listened to him, she heard the words and the voice of a gentle soul, a poet in its truest sense of the word, and as he sang, there was something about him that was revolutionary to her, something that she couldn’t put her finger on, but that she loved, truly and deeply. His words resonated inside of her and she didn’t know what she was going to do about that. How was she going to keep her head when there was someone so magnificent and so wonderful in her life that she couldn’t have. That was how devastating envy was to her. She wasn’t going to be able to contain it.

“They’re something, aren’t they?” a voice asked next to Lucy.

She turned and found herself standing face to face with Violet who was standing in a robe, wrapped up and staring out at James and the band as they began the concert of a lifetime. There was something truly remarkable about what was happening on the stage and Lucy couldn’t believe that she was standing next to James’ fiancé. This was the woman that she had wounded deeply without knowing. She looked at Violet as she turned and looked at Lucy with a kind of knowledge in her eyes that scared her. She knew something. Maybe she knew a lot.

“I don’t think we’ve had the pleasure of meeting each other,” Violet said with a sweet smile on her plump lips, her make up looking more caked on this close. It was kind of a disappointment to be standing this close to her and seeing that there were plenty of flaws and that it was all make up. That was a stab in the depth of her mind’s eye. “I’m Violet White,” she said with a grin. “I have to say, you’re absolutely lovely. I’ve never seen someone like you here. I know I would have remembered you for sure.”
