Cooper made a noise in the back of his throat, nodding his approval. She rolled her eyes at him and shifted, flying immediately into the air. She circled the camp below her, making little hooting noises at the lion as she dipped close. His feline instincts set in, and he batted at her as if she were a cat toy. She hooted loudly at him, admonishing him for his claws, and he settled down. Once he was calm, she landed in front of him, and the two watched each other.
Annie hooted quietly at him, and he made a soft purring sound. She launched up into the air again and landed on his back, clutching him gently with her feet. He liked the feeling so he shifted around until she understood, and she walked up and down his back, digging her claws into his fur, scratching his back. He really began to purr then, and she hooted with delight.
She grew bored of being in the owl shape if she couldn’t fly, so she flew to her clothes and shifted again into her human form. He followed suit and watched as she put on her panties and tee shirt but nothing else.
“Why did you shift back?”
“I get bored if I can’t fly around,” Annie shrugged. “I don’t know my way around here yet and don’t like to fly in unfamiliar airs.”
“That makes sense, I guess,” Cooper said. “But since you’re up so high, can’t you find the location you’re looking for?”
“That’s not the issue. I can find anything from the sky. I don’t get lost,” Annie explained as she gathered the rest of her clothes.
He frowned. “Then what is it?”

“I’m not familiar with what predators might be out and about. You don’t really have to worry about that, I guess.”
Cooper shook his head. He had gathered his clothes as well, not bothering to put any of them on, and gestured for her to precede him to the camper they were to share for the next three weeks. “No. Other predators in the animal kingdom leave lions alone. Our only enemy is other shifters and humans.”
“The shifters who shift into birds don’t fear many things, but in a new environment, you never know.”
“Always better to be cautious,” Cooper agreed.
They had reached the camper and stepped inside. Annie looked around and discarded her clothes on what was supposed to be Cooper’s bed. She turned to look at him daringly. She lifted her shirt off her body and dropped it on top of her other clothes.
