She sat up and grabbed him, pulling him down onto the bed with her and wrapping her arms around him as she kissed him hungrily.

“You’ll wear what you’ve been wearing.  A queen is powerful and knows how to dress herself to inspire the right feelings in her people.  The people of Aman are conflicted right now; no dragon clan has ever been led by a human.  They need to see you looking fierce and ready for battle.  There isn’t a dragon in Aman that doesn’t know what this coronation means to our future, and there are many that don’t think that you’re up to the challenge.”

“I understand,” she said solemnly, taking the clothes that he handed her from his bag and putting them on.  “Is this the new suit?”

“It is,” he said.  “I don’t think you’ll need it, but just in case.”

“You can never be too prepared,” she said solemnly.  “I’m a little nervous knowing that something as simple as a coronation could be so dangerous.”

“Don’t let it get to your head.  Stay focused and calm.  That will save you in the end.”

She nodded and got dressed quickly, braiding her hair just as hastily, leaving a few errant strands out and pulling on her boots.  She knew it was silly, but she instantly felt more powerful, the clothes reminding her of the hours that they’d spent training each day and how far she had come in three short months.  She was a different person, and she knew that it was up to her to convince the people of Aman that she was up to the task of leading them.

Eli went into the closet and came out with an ornate fighting staff, handing it to her and stepping back to admire the picture before him.

“It’s mostly for show,” he said.  “But it works like any other staff, and you look like a goddess of war like that.”

“Careful with that look you’re giving me or we’ll end up back in bed,” she teased.

“I would love nothing more, but they’ll send a search party out if we don’t get there soon.”

“Lead the way,” she said, putting her arm in his and leaning into his kiss before they stepped out of the guest house and toward a new chapter in both their lives.
