For a second Kayla squinted her eyes, trying to block the rays of light that penetrated through his window from entering her eyes. Straightening her posture she opened her eyes and allowed the rays of light to reflect onto her hazel irises. Taking a deep breath she sent the man a smile and waited for the interview to start.

She watched as he looked through her file with caution. Scanning through every page, making sure he could memorize and analyze each and every skill that she had meekly dodged down when she’d prepared the CV. She felt self-conscious, the words she’d written down coming back to her, making her feel unsure of herself.

“From what I can see, your past experience doesn’t resemble the position you came to interview for. Your only work history being as a hostess,” he suddenly said as he closed the paper file. He looked at her with curiosity, scanning her face.

“It’s true. But I can assure you I have enough skills to make a great personal assistant.” She licked her lower lip as she tried to think of something else to say. She had a lot of responses in her mind, but somehow her mouth was dry and she was unable to say anything else. So instead she gave a shy smile, hoping that her potential boss would understand her and ask something that would help her come up with a better answer.

“Skills such as what?” Mr. Paterson asked as he stood up from the chair behind the desk and walked towards the corner of the room, where a table with various drinks stood. She watched him grab two glasses and frowned as he poured scotch from the glass container in the middle.

She inwardly sighed, trying to concentrate on the question she should have thought of. Running a hand through her raven locks, she answered,“I’m able to catch up fast, in fact I work hard to learn the skills required for a job such as this. I’m organized and I do well with orders. I’m good with customers, a thing I learned from my previous job. And most importantly I learn from mistakes and never repeat them again.”

“I see,” he said as he handed her one of the half-filled glasses. Kayla was unsure what to do. She was more than sure that she wasn’t supposed to accept alcohol in an interview and even more sure that he wasn’t supposed to offer any either.

“No thank you, Mr. Paterson,” she politely declined, her lips tugging at the corner while she looked him straight in the eyes.

“Oh come on, loosen up, it’s just us here. And call me Caleb.” The way he said it sent a shiver down her spine, the emphasis he had put on his name making Kayla question everything. Taking the drink, Kayla expected him to retreat to his seat behind the desk, however to her surprise he sat in the seat in front of her, his eyes suggestively looking towards her while he took a sip from his drink.

Kayla couldn’t remember the last time she’d drank and she didn’t need to be reminded now. She was doing a crucial thing at that moment, her family’s future was at stake. Perhaps the alcohol was just a trick, perhaps his intense gaze was just a specter of her imagination.

She was unsure of any of that. However, she was sure that she needed to put everything aside and go on. She needed the job, even though the boss was a complete freak.

“I;m not sure of what to say next. But I can just hope you’ll give me a chance to prove that I can do the job,” she sincerely claimed, her fingers curling in her lap while she tried to calm her anxiousness.

“Hey, no need to be worried. We’re between friends here.” Suddenly, Kayla could no longer breathe, the feeling of the man’s hand on her leg making an icy feeling sink to the pit of her stomach.

She could feel the warmth of his fingers at it seeped through the sheer pantyhose and onto the skin of her slim legs.

At that moment, Kayla understood that she hadn’t imagined anything. The man in front of her certainly had other intentions for her. And she refused to stoop so low, to even allow him to fantasize about such perverted thoughts.

“I’m sorry, but I believe that I’m not ready for this job after all.” Indeed, while she wanted to make a professional exit, deep inside she felt like slapping the man across the face. But, she was a lady, her mother had raised her better than that. She preferred to place the blame on herself rather than make an unwanted scene that could ruin any chance of her ever having a career outside of a restaurant.

As soon as she stood up the man followed, his hand now resting on her arm, holding her in place. He was extremely close to her, so close that she could feel his hot breath on the bare skin of her neck.

“I’m sure we can work something out that can benefit the both of us.” He winked as his hand went to rest at the base of her neck. A chill ran down Kayla’s spine as bile threatened to reach her mouth. She’d never felt such a level of disgust in her life.

In fact, she’d heard about men that tried to lure a woman into their bed in exchange for a job, but she’d never expected them to be straightforward, let alone to ever have it happen to her.

“In your dreams, pig.” With that Kayla stepped on his foot, her hill digging deep into his shoe, before exiting the office.

She made sure to slam the door behind her, the loud sound giving her a bit of power.

Once outside the office she felt weak, exposed, disgusted. She could feel the sting of unshed tears as they threatened to fall. She felt like screaming, crying. She didn’t know why the event affected her so much. It wasn’t like this was the first time a perverted guy tried to throw himself at her. It was just the complete wrong time for it to have happened.

As if in a trance, Kayla soon found herself inside the bathroom just around the corner from where she’d had the interview. She stood there staring at her reflection, hoping that no one came in. She wanted to move, hide inside one of the stalls, but somehow her body refused to move.
