He could see nothing except red in front of his eyes. His fists curling as he saw the man pinning his girlfriend against the wall, his hand roaming over her body. He failed to notice the way Kayla’s hands tried to push him away, he was too furious for such tiny details, but that wasn’t important anymore. He had only one thought in mind. Punch that bas*ard in the face until he could see nothing but stars floating in front of his di*k face.

“Get the hell away from her!” His voice was like thunder, making everything around him shake. His chest vibrated with the loud sound, his body shaking as he approached them.

Caleb immediately stepped away, his former dominance no longer lingering around him.

“I’m sorry Ryan. I came in here to give you those files,” he said, pointing at the desk in front of him, “when the woman started talking to me. You know, when we had the interview, she tried hitting on me but I turned her down. So she took this as another opportunity to try her luck.”

Ryan was now holding his collar, barely containing himself from strangling the man to death.

He could feel his insides boil, the blood inside his veins being set on fire by hot flames of anger and fury. He knew Kayla by then, knew that she was nothing like that. He knew her to be a very sensitive person who was as pure as the baby she held within her.

Shaking his head, he looked between them both. But with no intention of believing him, despite that, Kayla felt the need to clarify things, to spill the events of that awful day, a few months ago, once and for all.

“You liar!” she screamed through tears, brushing them angrily with the back of her hands. “You asked me today, Ryan. You asked what went wrong on the day of my interview,” she began, her voice low, and raw.

“This man, this man right here!” she said, pointing. “He tried sleeping with me. He said he would hire me if I did it. But I refused him, I refused to be associated with such a man! The other day at the dinner, he approached me again, calling me all kinds of names, claiming I was with you for money! And as if that wasn’t enough, he tried doing it again, only this time, he even had the balls to throw himself on me.” The words she was uttering didn’t only hurt her, but they hurt Ryan too.

He hated seeing the woman he loved crying, hurting because of a lowlife such as Caleb. As she spoke, he remembered seeing them together at the dinner party, and how he interrupted the intense conversation they were having.

Without hesitation, he threw his fist at him. Ready to kill the man if needed. He was going to make him suffer, to make him regret ever doing what he’d dared do.

Yes, he was ready to do all that. He’d mentally and physically prepared himself to do that. But Kayla knew better, she was stronger than he was. So before he could punch him again, she grabbed onto his arm, his hands, firmly holding onto him, preventing him from making a mistake that would cost them both so much.

“Stop Ryan, he isn’t worth it,” she said through tears. Ryan looked at her; somehow, her mere touch was able to calm him down, to make him think rationally once again.

Although he wasn’t calm yet, although he still felt like strangling him, he knew Kayla was right. But that didn’t mean he wasn’t going to make him pay. Stepping aside, he pulled the phone out of his pocket already dialing the police.

Kayla was unsure when the time passed, but somehow she found herself standing outside the building, wrapped in Ryan’s arms, her eyes now dry but staring into the darkness around them. She wasn’t randomly staring though, she looked with a blank gaze at the man who was now being shoved into a police car. She didn’t know how to feel about it, she was too numb to think about anything. But she was somehow happy.

She found it within herself to enjoy the man getting what he deserved. People like him that didn’t deserve to be as blessed as he was. And she was happy that he was going to get punished for what he’d done.

She knew he wouldn’t get much of a punishment. But that didn’t matter, she only cared that he was going to understand that he couldn’t rule the world. That having money didn’t mean he could call himself a God.

“Let’s go home.” Ryan’s voice brought her out of her thoughts once again. Nodding she turned on her heel, holding his hand tighter than before. She was happy she had Ryan, happy to know that now she had someone to look after her.
