Ryan raised a brow, obviously curious as to what that unpleasant thing was. Smiling he finally sighed and nodded, deciding to drop it for now..

“As you say. Anyways, this is my office, I have to go grab some papers from the east wing, can you wait for me?” he asked, pointing at the door across from them. Just like the last time, Kayla didn’t fail to notice the sophisticated design of the waiting area.

The area was as fancy as the reception, and just like the other day, she didn’t fail to notice that the secretary’s desk was empty. But unlike the other day, she could tell that the place wasn’t totally vacant. She could see traces of unfinished work scattered on the table, a clear sign that someone had been there earlier that day, working on the files that now lay closed on the mahogany desk.

“Yeah sure,” she finally said, rising on her toes to kiss his cheek.

After he left, Kayla slowly made her way into the office, eager to see how it looked from inside. She knew that the great CEO would have a fantastic office, and she wasn’t mistaken. The interior of the room was magnificent, combining modern art with a sophisticated and classy design.

Closing the door behind her, she noticed the shelf filled with books to her right. From where she stood, she could make out few of the names written on the edge of the books.

Most of them were business, a few even law books. It was clear that Ryan didn’t only run the company because he inherited it from his father, but because he deserved it. He’d worked day and night for that company, putting his life on hold, just for the sake of that place. She knew he didn’t care about the money, he’d been willing to leave with his mother once and live a peaceful, average life.

He was working because he liked it, because he didn’t want to disappoint. And Kayla appreciated that.

Smiling, she took a deep breath and took her coat off, draping it over her arm as she walked around the office, studying each and every object in the room. On one of the shelves, she spotted a few awards and a picture of his family. She couldn’t help but purse her lips as she looked at it. It told her just how much he cared about his family.

Her fingers went to rest over the glass, touching the image of a young Ryan. Her gaze trailed to the image of his father, unable to help but notice the resemblance between the two.

Ryan indeed looked just like his father. But she knew they were nothing alike. And she’d made it clear the other night.

Suddenly a knock from the other end of the room came, catching her attention. Turning on her heel she directed her attention towards the turning knob. As she watched the door as it opened she didn’t expect to see the very person that she hated more than anyone else, that very person that had crossed her mind as soon as she’d entered the building.

The cold blue eyes that were trained on her made her insides turn. Her lips parted as she gasped, her hands curling into fists as she saw the man who dared disgrace her, who dared think of her as a wh*re, more than once in her life.

She expected him to leave, to have the decency to ask about Ryan and just exit the room. She was his boss’ girlfriend after all. If shame wouldn’t keep him away, fear and respect for those above him probably would. But no, there was no such thing from an animal like him.

As soon as he saw her inside that room, alone his lips curled in a sly smile while his eyes dared devour her once again.

“Well, well, look who’s here. Couldn’t stay away from me for too long now could you?” Kayla couldn’t believe her ears, the shameful words that left his mouth felt like slime. With a surprised gaze, she watched as he closed the door behind him, daring to come closer to her when all she did was look at him with utter hatred.

“Ryan’s not here. You’re welcome to leave!” Her words dripped with poison, hate evident in each and every one of her them. But that was obviously not enough to push him away. Instead, that lowlife kept approaching her, throwing the papers he was holding onto the table as he came to stand a few feet away from her.

“Stop acting darling, we both know you want his money. And we both know I can give you just as much as he’s giving you. I mean, you can even play us both, I wouldn’t mind,” he said as he curled a finger around a strand of her black hair. Revolted, Kayla slapped his hand away, her other hand wrapping around her belly in a protective manner.

“Get the hell out of here!” she hissed, feeling the bile as it rose to her mouth. She was unsure of how people like him lived. He was disgusting, entitled, as if he owned the world.

“Playing hard to get, are we? You see, I know women like you. Even met a few—well more than a few. And I know you only got pregnant so you can tie him down. Now I have to tell you. I feel offended; I was the one who offered in the first place. But I feel nice today, I’m willing to give you a second chance.”

Kayla had no idea how he could think this way. He was a psychopath, there was no other way to explain it. That was it, if he wasn’t going to leave she was. Only this time she was set on telling Ryan about him. A man this low had no right to be scared of nothing.

She believed every person needed a second chance, that they weren’t to pay for foolish mistakes at a huge price. But that was no foolish mistake, he was calling her names and being deliberately cruel. And she was not going to forgive him.
