“This is unnecessary,” Robyn grumbled, as Chris pushed her out of the hospital in a wheelchair.
“Hospital policy,” he replied firmly. They headed to the car, where Cleo was waiting. She smiled at Robyn, glad to see her looking like her normal self.
“Your carriage, my lady,” he grinned, opening the door.
She rolled her eyes. “You guys are so weird,” she murmured as she stood slowly out of the wheelchair. She was still in pain, and the doctor had suggested bed rest for a few days.
Chris grabbed her hand and supported her weight as she climbed into the car. Once she was in, and situated, he shut the door and got in on the other side. Cleo got in the drivers seat, and turned back to look at them.
“Where to?” she asked, confusing Robyn. Where else would she go, but home?
“The manor,” Chris replied instantly.
Robyn gaped at him. “What do you mean?”
Chris sighed and looked at her wearily, knowing she would put up a fight. “The doctor said bed rest. My mother insisted that we can do twenty four hour care better there than at our place.”
“I can’t just stay at the manor,” Robyn protested. “Your family-“
“Have already agreed it’s a good idea. Shay is eager to meet you, and someone will always be home to help you.”
“They’re- they’re your family, Chris. And I’m just some girl you met on the internet. I’m going to have to lie about how I know you, how we met…”
Chris frowned. “You’re not just some girl.” He moved in closer to her, situating himself in her personal space. It was something he’d been doing the last few days, ever since she’d woken up from surgery. Chris being that close made her head dizzy, something she was sure he knew and was using to his advantage.
They hadn’t discussed what Chris said to her when she woke up, or where their relationship was headed. Chris loved her. She loved him too, but their lives were complicated. They had a lot to talk about, but she and Chris both knew the hospital wasn’t the place to hash any of that out.
“And you don’t have to lie to them,” he continued. “They know we met online, and that we’re married and we fell in love after the wedding. There isn’t much more to tell.”
“Would you take me home if I insisted?” Robyn asked. She wasn’t sure why she was even asking. She knew he was right, and it’d be easier with help. She was more than a little curious about the manor and his family, but everything was also overwhelming. She wanted to feel in control.
Chris sat back and nodded seriously. “Of course.”
She looked at Cleo, who was watching them intently from the rear view mirror. She smiled encouragingly at her. It was disconcerting.
“Okay,” she acquiesced, a small smile on her lips. “The manor it is. I do need to swing by home and pick up some stuff though. Oh, and get ice cream!”
Cleo laughed as Chris looked at her bemusedly. “What?” she asked.
An hour later, after a stop at the house and the corner ice cream shop, they pulled into the Odom driveway. The manor itself was a sight to behold, not to mention the grandiose grounds. Robyn felt butterflies in her stomach as she stared out the window.
Cleo pulled the car up to the front. Chris got out first and opened her door, offering his hand to her. She took it and stepped gingerly out of the car. They both looked back to Cleo, who waved them on. “I’ll grab the bags, and meet you inside.”
Chris led her through the front door, and they stopped inside the entrance as Robyn took everything in. Exquisite paintings adorned the walls, and a grand staircase was off to the side.
Chris smiled at her as she looked around. When she was done, and had turned back to him, he led her up the stairs. They were still holding hands.
He showed her to a room not far down the hall. “This is the guest suite,” he explained to her, as he opened the double doors.
She laughed in surprise at the sight. The “room” was actually a collection of rooms. She released Chris’s hand to look around, wandering from one room to the next. The room they had entered was the sitting room, and it was attached to a large master bedroom with a bathroom and walk in closet. The sitting room and bedroom had floor to ceiling windows, allowing her an amazing view of the backyard. She also had a small balcony off of the bedroom.
She turned to Chris, at a loss for words.
“This is… This is incredible. I’ve never stayed in a hotel this nice, let alone a house.”
Chris laughed, pleased. “I’m glad you like it,” he told her, walking forward to take her hand once more. “You should get in the bed.”
Her mouth quirked up as she raised an eyebrow, and she took pleasure in the flush that came over Chris.
“I meant that you need to get some rest,” he clarified, flustered. Robyn was enjoying the switch in their personalities.

“Right,” she nodded, amused. “Rest. Don’t get any funny ideas, Mr. Odom.” She released his hand once more, to move towards the bedroom.
He sighed and shook his head, embarrassed.
“But before I do, one more thing,” she told him. He looked at her intently, eager to do whatever she needed. She rushed towards him, and flung her arms around his shoulders. His arms wrapped around her instinctively despite the surprise at her action, and he pulled back to look at her face. She smiled up at him coyly, and placed her lips gently on his own.
It was light and sweet. His eyelids dipped closed, and he parted his lips to sigh happily into it. He could feel her smile in return. She pulled away slowly, and he opened his eyes to a dazzling smile.
“Now I’m ready to rest.”
