“Happy to see you, too,” Smith said. “To what to I owe this—”
“Get upstairs.” Clutching his collar, Tasha pulled him up her steps and guided him to her bedroom.
“I like the look of this,” he teased. “What are you—?”

His fingers were near her chin when his mood shifted.
“Why do you look different?” he demanded.
“Don’t you like me like this?” she asked. “
“I’d almost think that someone else had your heart.”
And there it was.
“Someone else does,” she said. “But it’s not what you think.” He narrowed his eyes as she lowered his hand to her belly and waited for his eyes to understand.
“But you… you said you were on the pill,” he said.
“Guess that nothing in this life is a sure thing. Including us.” Now he would send her away, and Tasha tried to imagine a life without him. “So we’re moving in together?” she asked smiling as she hoped that he would return her grin. His lips curved up, but his eyes stayed flat as he spoke.
“Looks like,” he said. “I’ll take care of you, Tasha.”
She cuddled into his shoulder and relaxed as soon as he kissed her temple.
“It’ll be okay,” she said. “You’ll see.” He had no answer as they lay side by side. They were together. But would it last?
