The man turned to Calvin and the crowd with a few more informal words, “This is an exciting opportunity, and we look forward to seeing what your companies do together.”
Faydra looked over at Cal who was staring up at the screen with a bewildered but excited look on his face. His smile was full of awe at what was happening in front of him and Faydra could easily imagine what he was thinking.
She knew he didn’t care about being the biggest or the most talked about company out there. But she knew he was willing to accommodate any potential customers that could recognize his vision and aligned it with theirs. That was the most valuable and immeasurable thing.
Watching someone he didn’t know and had never met—though he didn’t know yet Faydra’s involvement—express a serious interest in working with him was amazing. It would tell him and everyone else in the room that he was clear about the vision and the purpose of his company, and word would spread. And although he didn’t know it yet, Faydra was convinced that his speech would attract some of the best and most honest companies to him, which would bring with it a lot of loyalty.Something that was invaluable in his field.
“Are you excited?” she yelled over the sound of clapping at one point.
“Yes, that’s crazy! I don’t even know that company, and they don’t know me!”
“That’s the exciting part! You madeI what you value and what you want to do within Atlanta obvious . The importance of what you can bring to the city. People relate to that.” He leaned down and kissed her lightly, nodding but still looking a little bewildered.
The man on the stage waited for the clapping to die down before continuing to speak. “And the contract with the second customer I mentioned will actually be announced by the store owner and media liaison herself, may I introduce Ms. Faydra Whitten—Media Liaison for Elite Boutique Atlanta!” There was some faint clapping as Faydra turned to wink at Calvin but then quickly made her way on stage.

She thanked the man as she arrived on stage, shaking his hand and taking her place behind the glass podium. She bent the microphone closer to her face and waited to speak until she’d locked eyes with Cal.
“Wow, thank you for giving me the opportunity to speak. I just wanted to take a second to thank you all for your contributions, but mostly to thank Calvin. I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know him on a personal level for the past few weeks. He stopped into our boutique to take his niece shopping. I was immediately drawn to him, his charisma and his polite charm, he just seemed like an amazing man. Traits that I know from my own experience are crucial in the field. But it wasn’t until he showed me Queens Media group, told me of his plans to expand and the vision he had for Atlanta—well, that’s when I knew I was in trouble.” The crowd laughed in unison.
“He is honest and hardworking. And when I had doubts or concerns he went out of his way to make things clear. He’s persistent but not pushy, and his company is a mirror image of his character. It’s the kind of company that I want to work with. I’ve been lucky enough to be helping my own store branch out into a new location in South Atlanta, and my biggest hope for that store was to have more of a media presence. To find ways to attract more customers while simultaneously addressing needs within the community, and eventually catering to other demographics. Which I think is often the dream goal of most companies.
“So with that being said, I am offering the contract of media relations to Queens Media Group, pending further discussion, and I’m looking forward to the future with Queens and Calvin, himself. Thank you.”
The man on stage helped her down as the crowd clapped and people began returning to the music and dancing. Faydra reached Calvin and he pulled her in with no words, but a kiss. She held onto him for what felt like minutes.
