Chapter 7
Breakfast with Anne Ainsworth was beautiful. Anne was funny and cursed like a sailor, and Rita now knew where George got it from. There were paparazzi of course, but none of them paid them any mind. Rita still wasn’t used to the celebrity lifestyle, but Anne told her to constantly have some form of smile on her face and otherwise just ignore them and she’d be fine. Rita laughed, but Anne’s advice really worked.
“My mother really likes you,” George said when they had gotten back to the mansion. They had gone up the stairs, and George paused to lean on the banister. He looked thoughtful.
“I like her too. She’s so funny,” Rita laughed.
“There’s something about you, it seems,” George said. He flashed her a smile that nearly melted her soul. He was just so handsome. She hadn’t ever stopped to stare at him before; she was always so busy with her work. Now that they were spending more time together, Rita paused to take a look at George whenever she got the chance to.
“There’s something about you,” Rita said boldly.
“What about me?” George asked. His expression was curious. He searched Rita’s face with his eyes and waited.
“You spoke about me first. What is it about me?” Rita asked. Blood rushed to her ears, and she felt her face getting warmer.
“There is a light about you. I’m not sure what it is, but when I see you…” George stopped himself. He swallowed and closed his eyes for a long time.
“Rita…I,” he started to speak again. Rita moved closer to him, her eyes wide with curiosity. She couldn’t believe that any of this was happening. Was he going to tell her what she was hoping to hear?
George breathed out and seemed to change his mind. He shook his head and looked away.
“George,” Rita started. His eyes went back to her. “If you want to tell me that you have feelings for me…then I think now’s the time to tell me.”
Rita couldn’t believe that she had just said those words. There was never a time in her life that she recalled being so bold.
George started laughing. Rita wasn’t expecting that kind of response, but George’s deep voice echoed throughout the house. She also didn’t ever remember a time when she heard him laugh. Was he laughing at her?
George held out his arms and pulled Rita in close to him.
“Rita, I’m not sure how this happened. But I haven’t been able to stop thinking about you. I think I’m falling for you,” George said. His face was now a bright red. Rita didn’t know if it was him blushing or the fact that he had just been giddy with laughter that did it. Rita didn’t care. All she could think about was that she was in George’s arms. She was in her husband’s arms and he was falling for her like she had been falling for him.
“George…I’m falling for you too.”

The moment the words left her was when George leaned in and planted a kiss on her lips. He kissed her deeply. Her body went from rigid with nerves to being completely relaxed. She allowed herself to melt into his arms as he explored the flavors of her lips with his own.
She didn’t want to come up for air; she didn’t want to pull away. Every part of George surrounded her. She felt safe. She was engulfed by his touch and his love for her.

“How was it?”
Rita had just finished telling Jose about the morning before last. He had invited her to his apartment in the city for brunch. He had cooked, and they were both now giggling and gossiping as if they were still in high school.
