Chapter 3

When Harvey arrived at Crimson Elite headquarters, the trial photo shoot was already in session. That was the plan as he wanted to catch Trish in her natural state. Not wanting her to overdo it in any attempt to impress him. No one else noticed his entrance except Alex, his keen eyes rarely missed anything. Harvey took out his tablet and jotted some notes, he made a list of her weaknesses and strengths, areas she needed to brush up in were critical to her maintaining her success. Most of his critiques centered on her movement and expression, the positive attributes far outweighed the negative. He thought they would have gotten a better shot if she had curved her long swan like neck just a little to the side. He was surprised that his trusted protégé didn’t pick up on it, he made a mental note and put a reminder on his tablet to have a word with the photographer later and go over the pics with him.

He had seen her in the arms of the male model and he had felt insanely jealous. He found his reaction to her baffling. Fancy that someone he barely knew had such a hold on him. In his mind he wanted to fight the feeling but didn’t know where it started much less where it would all end. Your guess was as good as his. He would have lost his mind when he saw them doing the kiss scene if Alex hadn’t chose that moment to tap him on the back and address him.

Alex was in his late 40’s but looked younger because he maintained his physique with a pricey gym membership, he was a hit with the ladies, nobody’s angel. He was the vice president of marketing because he was good at sizing things up and putting his job ahead of his vices. He was a sneaky little charming bas*ard that could sell salt to a slug. Harvey smiled and kept his cool while standing next to the man.

“Beautiful isn’t she? It’s a wonder she’s gone unnoticed so long, no doubt another attempt by Miranda, to crush another model with the potential to rival her career.”

“Yes, I’ll admit she’s gorgeous, no flirting with her now Alex,” he said jokingly but his tone had an edge of seriousness to it.

“Hmm…the great Harvey Kingston likes this one, can’t wait to tell the old boys, had a bet going to see when you would fall, had everyone thinking you were gay.” Harvey grinned and ignored the slander.

“Ha, ha, ha! You got jokes, when will you guys grow up.” He laughed louder than he had expected. He didn’t like being read like an open book. The bright light shone on Trish illuminating her like an angel, she was too busy to notice the lusty looks being sent her way.

“Miranda ain’t gonna like you messing with her underling.”

“I don’t remember asking you for your advice Alex and I don’t need Miranda’s permission for whom I date, it’s not like anything is going on anyways. You should mind your own business or I will mind it for you.”

“No need to worry about me, I’ve got a wife with kids at home.” Hooted Alex when he saw his face. Like that had ever stopped Alex from going after women outside his marriage before, thought Harvey.

“I’ll see you later at the poker game Harvey, got a few other folks I need to have a word with before they leave.” His words trailing behind him as he made his way out of the room.

“No you won’t, give my apologies, I’ve got other plans.”

“Ha-ha, I can see why.” He looked at Trish in admiration one last time before he exited the room.

While he had been chatting away with Alex, the photo shoot had come to a wrap. The male model that had been all over Trish earlier was still hovering nearby. They seemed to be in deep conversation. By the look on Trish’s face she wasn’t interested in anything the guy had to say. Her disinterest rubbed the guy the wrong way and his ire grew with giant speed as he now towered over her. His face became red and splotchy the more she ignored him. His presence seemed most threatening as he became more aggressive in his stance and gestures. No doubt this was Harvey’s cue to sweep in like a knight in shining armor and save the day. A grateful woman would no doubt be willing and eager to please.

“Don’t you have somewhere to go Dirk, why are you still hanging around here?”

She had it up to here with him, he thought his good looks made up for his vile personality and mean spirit. Throughout the photo shoot he whispered nasty stuff in her ears about what he would do with her if given the chance. His sweaty fingers had been molesting her right throughout the shoot. He was so sneaky about what he was saying and doing, she was pretty sure no one else had picked up on her discomfort. Now she was trapped alone in a deserted room with him. Not another of her wisest decisions. She had been the happiest of persons when the shoot was over thinking she had seen the last of him. She thought he would have been the first one to bail out of the room on the prowl for pu*sy, she should have known it was hers he would have in mind.

“Damn Trish, it’s been years since the last time I seen you, your all grown up now, thought you would be happy for my company.”

She shook her head, and thought to herself this man had done lost his mind. She contemplated spraying his mouth with her mint spray when she should have been aiming for his eyes. That would have been a futile effort since all the Colgate in the world couldn’t help him. Trish pretended that she was deaf, rolled her eyes and continued to ignore his ignorant ass while she packed her stuff away.

“Forget it man, you got it all wrong, leave me alone.”

He huffs, “Damn bi*ch, don’t think you gonna have me here looking like a fool.” He grabbed on to her and pulled her arm in such a way that she had no choice but to turn around and face him. “At least look at me when I’m talking to you.”

“Dirk, stop acting like a di*k, I’m gonna ask you one last time, to get lost and leave me alone, I don’t have time for this sh*t.” The thought about what he planned to do made her stomach turn. She curved her fist into a self-defense technique getting ready to plant one in his face if it became necessary.

He loomed aggressively over her and grabbed on to the edge of her blouse, lifting it he said to Trish, “We don’t have to go anywhere, we’re alone now, why don’t you just-” he never got to finish his sentence. Harvey came out of nowhere and landed a solid punch on his nose, you could hear the crunching sound when fist connected to nose and it broke, the shock and impact knocked Dirk off balance and he was instantly thrown and landed into a nearby pile of junk. The forceful impact caused some things to fall off a nearby shelf and knocked Dirk out cold. Trish barely had time to think much less react.

“Is he going to be alright?” Harvey flicked Dirk a dismissive glance and nodded.

“Get your things together, I’m taking you home.” Harvey was in one of those incredibly black moods.

Meekly she shoved the last of her utensils into her backpack and followed him out to the car. Trish wasn’t going to argue with him about walking home. Frankly, she was pleased by the offer. Today had been a long day and Dirk had been the icing on the cake. In Trish’s eyes Harvey looked more handsome and debonair than the day before. The man didn’t know his own appeal. Seemed he also had a knack for turning up whenever she needed help, this was something she could get used to.

Trish never had a man she could turn to or depend on before, not that Harvey belonged to Trish. She wondered to herself if the pregnancy hormones had started to affect her judgment. Common sense would tell her that Harvey was out of her league. He certainly wouldn’t want a woman pregnant with another man’s child now would he. As much as history has come a long way, she still thought men were still as self-centered and selfish just the same as the generation before.
