Chapter 2

By the time Trish woke up Betsy had already left the house, so much for getting a ride to work, she would have to walk or take the bus. Betsy had left a note on the dresser by her bed, to remind Trish that she promised to meet a friend of Bryan’s, an upcoming fashion designer later after work. This eligible bachelor was in “desperate” need of a competent model to endorse a new line of clothing that would showcase the latest in summer fashion.

Trish wasn’t enthused about the meeting, no doubt this was another ploy by Betsy to set her up with a “decent guy” under the guise of work. Most of Betsy’s eligible bachelors were often boring, lacked personality and very pompous.

Trish made her way to work in the best of moods. Her plan, to emulate the work ethics of Miranda Chase without the nasty attitude. She would be hardworking, pleasant, outgoing and make a great impression on everyone. All that changed when she accidentally bumped into Bianca Chin.

“Are you blind, can you not look where you’re going? Now you done smudged my brand new white authentic Manolo Blahniks!”

“I’m so sorry Bianca I got distracted, sorry for bouncing into you, didn’t see you there at all.”

“Whatever you shouldn’t even be here backstabber.”

‘“Really Bianca that argument is so tired, give it a break, I didn’t steal any jobs from you, I got them on my own merit.”

“Bi*ch please, who knows what you’re doing behind closed doors.”

“The only way you could know anything is if you and I were behind those doors, sorry to disappoint Bianca but you’re not my type.”

“Ladies, compose yourself, you know Miranda would fire you both if she caught you all making a scene, she will see you both in the boardroom.” Chirped Miranda’s bird brain assistant Brenda. She gave them room to pass and followed behind passively as they stormed into Miranda’s spacious office. Brenda managed to grab the door to the boardroom before it slammed shut and put up the usual do-not-disturb sign.

“Now that everyone has assembled, first let me extend a warm welcome to everyone. This is going to be a momentous occasion and you should all be proud to have a part in it. Today is Day 1 of the Livingstone Campaign, they’ll be starting with the launch of their latest perfume “Radiant Love.” Here with us today are Alex Manley V.P of Marketing for Livingstone Cosmetics, Cissy Tyson award winning makeup artist to the stars, you all should know our very own Indira Kofu who started her career here at Crimson Elite, and has now branched off as an elite fashion designer. She is responsible for the costume and wardrobe team and will be filling in for Grace Anne who is currently on maternity leave.

“Last but not least, we know you’re in popular demand and we appreciate having world renowned Harvey Kingston who will be responsible for leading the photography team. While they are here treat them with the utmost respect and courtesy. Let’s make them feel at home here at Crimson Elite by giving them a wonderful round of applause.” Loud claps reverberated in the room amongst the production team and dwindled as each went off to their respective areas after Miranda gave the cue for dismissal.

Trish now had a name to go with that gorgeous hunk of a man that had caused her to misstep and walk right into Bianca earlier. Miranda was flirting unabashedly with the much younger man and Trish couldn’t help but look on with envy, as she called Bianca over to meet him, some women had all the luck.

“Now, now Trish, wipe the drool off and close your mouth.”

“Indira! Imagine my shock to see you back from Europe and you didn’t call and say anything.”

“Surprise!” she chuckled. “You know how bad I am with keeping track of mail and sh*t and I’m always losing my cell, I don’t even know where it is right now, dial it for me please. Besides, haven’t you got a man? You shouldn’t be looking like you need to get some.”

“Girl, long story but me and Chris are history.”

“Oh yeah. Get out of here! Well, we have all day for you to tell me about it.”

Trish dialed Indira’s cell number and they followed the trail of loud calypso ring tone that drifted out of the room Indira had been assigned to. Indira had wanted her to jump carnival with her the upcoming year, but there was no way that would be happening with a big belly. Trish laughed at the thought of herself bloated with child and wearing one of those bikinis with large feathers as she marched down the road. She wouldn’t be surprised if men still cat called her with her enormous belly as she gyrated down the road. Betsy was her best friend but because of work, she had also grown close to Indira.

“Girl share the joke what is so funny.”

“Uhmm nothing.”

“Ughhh I hate it when you do that, so about Chris?”

“What about him?”

“Don’t act like you got memory loss all of a sudden why’d you leave him?”

“It’s more like he left me, in both mind and body.”

“Girl that’s deep but you aren’t making any sense.”

“Long and short of it, I caught Chris in bed with another woman.”

“Holy sh*t! Are you serious? That rat bas*ard, I warned you he was up to no good.”

“Please don’t start Indira, I already had it up to here with Betsy.”

“Well that’s why me and Betsy are cool, you should listen to her more, she’s got taste, is she still with that hunky fine ass Bryan.”

“I swear Indira you know how to crack me up, Betsy would have your head on a wall if she ever knew you lusted after Bryan.”

“Word. She still overprotective of him huh? I thought she had that good good, besides I’m fly and he ain’t never looked my way.”

“For good reason too Indira, you are downright scary, when you don’t get your own way.”

“Trish you’ve got to learn to be aggressive if you want to make it in this world, you can’t allow men to treat you any which way, the moment they think they can get away with sh*t it’s all over. That’s why I set my rules from early on, it has helped to weed out all the losers.”

“No wonder you’re single, it’s even harder to get into your bed than it is to get into heaven with all those rules.”

“Ha-ha you got jokes huh, I hope you still got them when Chris comes back for that booty call.”

“Chris wouldn’t dare!”

“That’s what you said the last time and the time before that.”

“I swear, you are a prime example of why you mustn’t let people know your business.”

“Well girl, you know I’ve got your back, and I’m gonna be all up in your business if that is what it takes for you to make something out of your life, you know Indira keeps her promises.”
