When he keeled over she looked up just in time to glimpse Harvey’s car speeding down the road. He must have been in the neighborhood and felt like dropping by unannounced because he knew she didn’t mind. Now her day had just went to hell, she forgot about Chris and dialed Harvey’s number frantically but he refused to answer her call confirming that he had seen Chris kissing her and had assumed the worst. While she was distracted Chris had recuperated from his weakened state and the crazed look on his face was enough to strike instant fear into Trish’s heart, instantly paralyzing her.
He was going to make her pay, for disrespecting him and he grabbed her by the legs so she fell on the ground with him, he heaved his heavy body on top of her and flattened her struggles, it was like having the wind knocked out of her body. Then he held her by the neck with both hands and started choking her, cutting of her air supply so she couldn’t breathe.
“We had a good thing going and you screwed it up, you gonna regret this when he fu*ks you and leaves but don’t think you can come crawling back to me, you stupid wh*re.” He lashed out at her disrespectfully.
Trish asked the good Lord to forgive her of all her sins, as her life flashed before her very eyes. She felt that this was it, her life and that of her unborn child was about to be extinguished. Her only saving grace came in the form of Bryan. He too had seen when Chris had approached Trish, he had been at one of his client’s house’s delivering a product. Unlike Harvey, he was aware of Chris’ violent tendencies and didn’t like the look of agitation on Chris’ face, and genuinely didn’t trust Chris.
He hoped that by the time he found somewhere to park his delivery truck, he wouldn’t be too late to give Trish the moral support she needed but he never expected their argument to escalate to the level it now reached.
“Chris from now on you stop fu*king with Trish.”
“Mind your business asshole.”
Hoping that he wasn’t too late he lifted Chris off of Trish, punched him in the eye hard causing it to lift out of the socket, his face was a bloody mess, they started wrestling and rolling on the ground. When Chris drew out a knife out of his back pocket Trish started screaming in panic drawing the attention of a nearby security guard from the grocery store.
When he came over to intervene, his hoarse shouts alerted Chris to the fact that they were no longer alone. They had an audience. Ramming his fist into Bryan’s gut with all his might, so that Bryan doubled over he used the time to brush pass the security guard, disappearing down the road without a backwards glance. Chris had lived on these streets all his life and knew which nook and cranny to hide in until the things cooled off. She wouldn’t be hearing from him again, despite his deficiencies, he was a proud man and he always kept his word. He was finished with Trish and she didn’t deserve him.
The security guard asked if she wanted to go the hospital but she declined, all she had to show for the entire fracas was some bruises that would eventually fade. The security guard implored them to give a statement to the police but they both adamantly declined. Even though it had been a close call neither of them had been grievously injured.
The security guards testimony between Chris and Bryan wouldn’t have been enough to put Chris away. There would have been some question as to who would get charged with aggravated assault as he hadn’t seen who had started the fight, it would all have been inconclusive with no additional witnesses, with just their word against his. Trish didn’t want the aggravation but she contemplated filing a restraining order against Chris.
Chris would have just vehemently denied everything and lied as was his style. Chris had pretty much said things were over between them and as long as she avoided the places he and his thugs haunted, she would be alright. Chris loved women and wasn’t short for attention so he would eventually move on and forget about Trish. Harvey never returned any of her calls which was unlike him, so she tried calling him yet again unable to accept that he would let things end this way between them but her calls would go unanswered and get cut off or went straight to voicemail.
Trish was so frustrated and exhausted by the day’s events that she rushed passed Betsy, tears streaming down her face. Trish locked herself in her bedroom, crying on the same bed they had found so much joy and made love on so recently. Harvey should have known better than to not trust her. How could he think that she could transfer her love so easily to another man? Despite the fact that she had a history with Chris and they shared a baby, she felt nothing for Chris and had moved on with her life. She felt like a fool thinking that Harvey was her chance at happiness.
“Harvey spotted her talking to Chris. He didn’t wait for an explanation he just got angry, got into his car and drove away in a rage.” Said Bryan when Betsy came up to him, no doubt she was wondering why Trish was throwing another of her famous tantrums.
“I saw the whole thing with my own two eyes, I’m going to call Harvey and explain what went down to him, once he has calmed down, he’ll have things figured out. He’s a reasonable man,” stated Bryan empathetically.
Bryan did his best to fill in the blanks with Betsy as much as possible. Betsy was distraught, she didn’t like seeing her friend in such agony but she was most thankful that neither of them was seriously injured. She pleaded with Bryan to call Harvey and let him know that he had misconstrued the whole situation. She entreated him to tell Harvey to get his act together, look at the big picture and see what was at stake here. Either Trish mattered to him or not, she hoped it was the former not the latter. He needed to get his ass over here and resolve the situation pronto.

“Trish?”
Trish sighed. “Why are you here?”
“Are you going to let me in?”
“No, I’m not going to. Leave me alone, Harvey.”
He could hear her as she whimpered on the other side of the door, he felt confused. “Please open the door.”
“What part of “leave me alone,” don’t you understand? Clearly last night was a mistake if you doubted my declaration of love for you.”
“I saw you with Chris and I thought you made up your mind to choose him over me.”
“Clearly you didn’t stick around long or you would have seen me slap him for disrespecting me.”
“I know now, I was wrong. I got a phone call from Bryan he said he saw the whole thing and told me that you had remained loyal to me.” Tears spilled from her eyes just as she thought she had spilled them all.
She got up and opened the door. “Oh, so you would take Bryan’s word over mine, I can’t be with a man who doesn’t trust me to know my own mind.”
“Well Chris is the baby’s natural father.”

“He is just a sperm donor, he has no idea how to be a man much less a father to a child. Harvey you have so much to offer if only you would only stop doubting yourself.”
“You haven’t asked my reason for coming now.”
“To be honest, I no longer care.”
He looked pained when she said that. She wanted him to hurt and get a taste of his own medicine.
“Do you mean that?”
