Joshua spoke about as quickly as humanly possible and then turned beet red immediately after. It appeared that someone was getting antsy, eager, and that someone wasn’t Andrew. At least it wasn’t only Andrew. Alina looked slightly nervous but she didn’t say no. She just smiled at the both of them and then nodded. It was a small nod but it was still a yes, and yes was all he needed to hear.
They would go and grab a couple of six packs and the nicest bottle of vodka the dinky little Charlotte liquor store had and then they would head to Alina’s place. He had an idea that she would feel safest there, and that was important to him. He wanted things to move forward but he also wanted her to trust him. He wanted her to trust both of them. Everything would just be better that way.
“I would say this is my place, but you’ve both seen it already, haven’t you? How strange, to invite people over to a place that they were familiar with before you ever set foot inside. Before you were even aware of its existence, or the town it was built in as well.”
“I suppose that would feel a little weird. To make matters weirder, mind if I play a record? I know the record player is in here because I put it there myself. I’ve always been fond of records, ever since I was little. I thought maybe you would feel the same way.”
Andrew moved past her before getting his response, practically sprinting to make sure he picked the perfect record for the occasion. His insides felt deliciously warm and every nerve ending tingled with excitement. If he knew that if ever there was a time for the perfect soundtrack, this would be it. He finally found the record he was looking for and with the laughter of his friends and sound of pouring drinks as his background noise, he set the needle and the music began to play.
Old, gritty rock and roll crackled through the speakers, just the way he liked it, and filled the apartment with the music’s vibrations. It was the vibration of their hearts, all three beating in time, the blood rushing through their veins and the pulse pounding in their temples.
They were linked, the three of them, linked in time and space, linked in more than they even knew and in more ways than Andrew had any desire to know. For the moment, he just wanted to feel Alina’s soft skin moving beneath his fingertips and hear her soft sigh in response.
“What do you think, sugar? Will that do?”
“Yes, I like this very much. What is the name of it?”
“Does it really matter? It’s music for your soul, ain’t it? As far as I’m concerned that’s all anyone needs to know.”
He had moved towards her slowly as he spoke, the way a predator might stalk his prey, until her body was just inches away from his own. At the sound of the trembling in her voice he took the almost forgotten glasses out of her hands, setting them aside on the closest surface he could find. Behind her, he saw Joshua down his beer in one sip, watching everything with fierce, bright eyes. Maybe he was afraid of being left out, but Andrew would never let that happen. They were in this together, just as they had been from the very beginning. He didn’t know this girl enough for that to no longer be true.
He just knew enough to know that he wanted her, more than he could remember wanting anyone in the entirety of his life, and he wanted Joshua to come along for the ride.

“Yes, it’s ok. It was always moving towards this, isn’t that so? You boys, you had more respect for me than I think most men would, yes? You never just took, you made me to feel comfortable. You’re gentlemen, I think. I think I’m lucky to have been found by the two of you and not by many other men I could have been approached by.”
“Ha! Well I can honestly say that nobody has ever accused me of being a gentleman before, but I’ll take it. Joshua over there, he’s the real gentleman. He’s a better man than I’ll ever be.”
“Aw, that’s bullsh*t man, and you know it.”
“Is it?” Alina said as she turned to look at him with a slow, sweet smile, “I think maybe it isn’t. Maybe that’s why you still stand so far away from the two of us. Because you’re a gentleman, because you’re too shy.”
Andrew laughed, surprised by how forward she was being now. She seemed almost eager to have the both of them with her, like it fulfilled some need for her as well. She looked back to him, raised up on the tips of her toes to give him a kiss that ended far too quickly before turning and leading him towards Joshua, who stood looking at them both with wide eyes and his beer glass still clutched tightly in one large hand. Alina didn’t even stop when she arrived at his side, just gently took the glass out of his hand and continued on her way to the bedroom in the back of the spacious apartment.
