Chapter 6

The rumbling in Nadia’s stomach, once she made it into Babes and Bosses, was unbearable. She glanced at her reflection and noticed some fullness in her cheeks. She tried to think if she had eaten something that gave her an allergic reaction or food poisoning. She had been sick like this, on and off, for days now.

It had only been a few weeks since her magical night with Jeremy. Even though Paul was still coming around being a nuisance to her, it didn’t seem to bother her as much as it used to. She could tell that was bothering Paul. He was becoming more and more aggressive, and spoke with such anger. Nadia always made sure to speak with him while other people were around.

But today, as she strolled into the salon, she hoped that he wouldn’t show up. She was feeling extremely sick this morning and couldn’t think of anything that could have made her feel this way.A She didn’t need Paul adding to her mood.

Jeremy sent her a text to check on her, making sure she didn’t need anything. Nadia smiled as Charlene sat in the chair waiting for Nadia to get started on her hair.

“I’m starting to think you’re my only client,” Nadia giggled in an attempt to distract herself from her thoughts of Jeremy dicking her down.

Charlene laughed, “Well I’m the only client that matters. But tell me about Mr. Witten. How’s that going? He bought you a house or anything yet?”

“No, absolutely not! I’m not dating him for his money. He’s actually a great guy, just super busy.”

“Well, people worth that amount of money tend to be busy. It’s those fools out there with too much free time who don’t have a dime. Keep him tight,” Charlene advised.

Nadia inhaled deeply trying to keep her queasiness under control, but she was losing that battle fast. She excused herself dashing off to the bathroom. Nadia hurled everything she ate that morning into the toilet wishing she would have just stayed home in bed. She couldn’t take this anymore. She needed and wanted some answers. There was a small knock at the door. It was Megan.

“Nadia,” she whispered with concern in her voice. “I know you’ve been feeling this way for a few days now. Are you sure you don’t need to go to the doctor? You’re starting to worry me. Especially if that’s contagious, I can’t have you here getting anybody else sick.”

Nadia shook her head as she wet a towel with cold water to wipe her face.  Megan cared about her, but at the end of the day, her uptight ass was always worried about business. Nadia opened the door glaring at Megan like she was the one who made her sick.

“Thank you for caring so much about me,” Nadia sucked her teeth. “But I’m going to the doctor, I just need to finish Charlene’s hair.”

“No. Don’t worry about that. I’ll finish up with her. You need to leave now and go get yourself taken care of. This is not a request! It’s a demand. Go now and take whatever’s brewing inside of you with you,” Megan joked lightheartedly.

Nadia threw her hands up in defeat not wanting to argue with Megan that she wasn’t sick. She grabbed her things from the back and called Sylvia to come take her to the doctor.

The sun was bright, the day was beautiful, but Nadia couldn’t enjoy a single moment of it as she stood outside waiting for her sister to come. Tires screeched as Sylvia pulled up to the salon and she jumped out of the car. She bombarded her with all kinds of questions. Nadia wasn’t sure if it was stress, Paul, illness, or really just something she ate that got her sick enough to leave work early.

“Sylvia, I swear it’s not that serious. I would have stayed but Megan told me to go to the doctor just in case it’s something contagious, which I know it’s not. She’s just worried what it looks like for business,” Nadia reclined back in her seat.

“Well, yeah, that’s completely understandable as it must look horrible for business when your employee has to stop every few minutes to go throw up in the bathroom. It may seem a bit cold, but you’re being completely selfish about this situation,” Sylvia began to lecture her.

“Please spare me your golden aids of wisdom, I’m not in the mood,” Nadia held her hand up. “Just take me to the doctor.”

Sylvia hushed up to focus on getting her to the doctor’s office. Fortunately, she didn’t have to wait for long to be seen. Sylvia went into the examining room with her sister for support and as the doctor went over the forms she filled out, he asked her one question that stumped her.

“Okay, so when was the first day of your last period?” the tiny Asian man asked her from behind his glasses.

Nadia sat back and thought about it. She couldn’t remember. She pulled out her phone trying to link dates with her last period but she was at least three weeks late. Her eyes widened and the doctor smiled, “Well that look on your face says we need to give you a pregnancy test.”

Sylvia turned to Nadia wondering when she and Jeremy had done it, and didn’t she tell her they moved forward with the plan. Reminding herself that their s*x life was none of her business wasn’t doing anything to take the sting away that her best friend and little sister were acting like a couple.

When the doctor came back with the results, there were mixed feelings in the air. He left the room once again for the girls to talk. Sylvia couldn’t believe that this stupid plan of Nadia’s was actually coming true and she let her sister know. Sylvia was on the verge of tears. She wanted to be happy for them but she knew that there wasn’t a new baby coming into their family. According to Nadia and Jeremy, this baby was going up for adoption.
