Chapter 8

Jazmyn

“Hey Bri,” Jazmyn said after her conversation on the phone with Zack ended. She called her to give her details about the call she and Zack had just had.

“How was your trip.”

“Excellent. Guess what just happened.”

“You had a really great time with the hottest man in Sweden?”

“I wish, I just got off the phone with Zack after one week of him promising that he’d call me, and guess what, he stylishly invited me to hang out with him.”

“Really?” Brianna said in a high-pitched voice, “you mean like on another date?”

“Not really, just getting drinks. He said something about him making it up to me.”

“Wow, he’s such a gentleman huh? Well, I’ll be at your place soon so we can pick your outfit together.”

“I told you it’s no big deal,” Jasmine replied with a tone of disinterest.

“Don’t be silly, of course, it’s a big deal and knowing Zack he would want to take you to a fancy place.”

Brianna was feeling even more excited than Jazmyn.

“I guess you are right.”

“Of course, I’m always right, I’ll be at your place in 30.”

Getting out of the shower, Brianna was already in her room, trying to match one cloth with the other to make an outfit and, she’d already layered different types of makeup on her vanity table.

“You scared the sh*t out of me,” Jazmyn exclaimed, looking as if there is a burglar in her house.

Brianna gave her a non-serious and resumed her outfit choosing task.

“Come, sit down, let me do your make up.”

Although Jazmyn could do her makeup, Brianna insisted on doing it for her. She had always been the one who talked Jazmyn into better decisions, always keeping her in check.

“We still have at least two hours until Zack gets here and by the way that’s a lot of time in case you don’t know.”

“Two hours, that’s like 30 minutes. Sit your ass down and let get started.”

“Okay calm down. You are freaking out.”

“What! No! I’m not freaking out. It’s just that I don’t get to doll you up often. So, excuse me if I’m snagging any opportunity I get.”

“Okay. Okay. Whatever, do your magic.”

Even though Jazmyn didn’t fancy makeup on her face, she still allowed Brianna to do whatever she wanted with her face because Jazmyn was aware that Brianna wouldn’t give in until she was through with her.

After an hour of shaving and poking of Jazmyn’s face, among all other things. Brianna was finally done with her makeup and her hair.

Wearing a beige off the shoulder dress paired with black heels and smokey eyes, Jazmyn thought to herself that this was the prettiest she had felt in a while, and she wasn’t sure if it’s even worth it, for all she knew, Zack promised to call her, and for a week he didn’t.

Trying not to think too deeply about the whole situation, she said:

“Oh my God, thanks so much I feel so pretty.”

“Well, you are always beautiful I just helped you to enhance it more and no shedding of tears I used most of the time on your eye makeup.” Brianna joked, seeing that Jazmyn was getting a little emotional

“Of course. I love you.”

“I love you too…” Just as she was saying this, the doorbell rang. “Oh, looks like lover boy is here.”

“Oh, shut it girl.”

“Well go on, don’t keep him waiting. Have fun but not too much fun. Don’t do what I wouldn’t do.”

Brianna hugged her.

“For God’s sake, you are embarrassing me. Jazmyn commented as she made her way to the living room.”

“Hey, Zack.” She greeted after opening the door, letting him through to the living room.

“Hello, Jazmyn. Wow, you look beautiful.”

“Thanks.” She blushed. “Ummmm, you don’t look bad yourself.”

“Thank you, so are you ready?”

“Yeah, let’s go.”

Silently Brianna muttered, “great.”

Zack led her to his car and opened the door for her. Once they were seated and Zack started the car Jazmyn went straight to the point.

“Do you care to tell me the reason why you didn’t call me throughout the whole last week like you promised you would?”

Zack was caught off guard with this question, though he had prepared, or at least the thought crossed his mind that he could not escape the conversation of why he didn’t call; he didn’t think that it would be in the car or that it would happen that soon.

He had reasoned that immediately after they got to the location he had in mind, then he would try to explain.

“Yeah, about that…” Zack started, “…I’m so sorry, I know there is no excuse to why I didn’t call you till now and no matter how busy I am, I should be able to make a call especially when it’s to someone you like.” He started taking responsibility for his actions even before Jazmyn said anything.

“The thing is that I was scared cos I realized I was starting to like you and it was a different feeling and I didn’t know how to comprehend it but when I realized that I couldn’t stop thinking about you no matter how hard I tried I decided to call you and apologize. I also decided to give this a go and see where it’s going….”

He took a brief pause and looked at Brianna, whose eyes were focused on the road as if she was the one behind the wheel.

“You miss a hundred percent of the chances you don’t take,” he added

“Wow, I’m lost for words,” Jazmyn said

“Did you even heard a word I said?”

“Of course, or do you want a recap?” she said, still not taking her eyes off the road.

“Not really,” he took a deep breath and said, “Well you don’t have to say anything yet just relax and let’s enjoy this evening.”

“I think that’s a good idea.”

Minutes later, they arrived at The Posh Club, one of the most expensive clubs in the city. The unpublicized club had fewer people inside it than a regular club.

The American-styled bar had lightning of different colors, and at the front, Posh Club was placed on the wall with Neon. A skin-headed Mexican bouncer was guarding the door, looking at Zack as they alighted from his car, “Good Evening Mr. Whitaker” he said with a smile on his face.

“Hey, good evening, Miguel.”

Jazmyn, not surprised by how they exchanged pleasantries, asked jokingly, “Your friend also own this place?”

“I happen to know a lot of people, good people in fact.”
