He crouched in front of her and wiped away a tear that had slipped down her cheek. He chuckled. “I would hope not. I may have overreacted.”
She shrugged. “You have every right to be upset. I remember more details from last night. You saw me dancing with some guy.” She hung her head. “I’m sorry.”
“Actually, I saw him groping you inappropriately and you trying to get away.”
Her hope lifted for the first time that morning. “Nothing else happened?”
He shook his head. “I arrived just in time to stop the bas*ard and I got you out of the club and brought you back here.”
She let out a relieved breath. “Oh, that’s good. That’s very good.” Now she just needed to find out who the hell spiked her drink.
“My jealousy and insecurity got the better of me, Kyra. I could have handled things better.”
“You? Insecure? About what?” He exuded the most confidence and power that she had ever seen on a man.
“Seeing you in that club last night with another man reminded me of when I discovered that my wife had been unfaithful and that my marriage was over. I tried to make things work but it only got worse because she wanted a certain lifestyle that I refused to put up with. Seeing you in that state last night made me worried that you might slip away the same way she did.”
Her heart went out to him. “Oh, Ricardo. You don’t have to worry about that. Not with me. I’m not the woman you saw last night. I swear. I don’t party and fall out of clubs drunk. I went out with Allegra so we could talk. That’s all. I think someone slipped something into my drink and now everything is a blur.” She didn’t even mention that it may have been Allegra. She had to find out for sure first.
Ricardo’s eyes darkened. “Then we need to go to the police.”
“No! I need to see Allegra and get more details first.”
“Kyra if you were drugged-“
“Let me speak with Allegra first.” Although, now she felt like she needed to wait a while before doing that. She didn’t think she could manage that conversation.
He blew out a breath and nodded. “Fine.”
She gave him a small smile. “So, uh, welcome back to New York.”
He chuckled. “Thank you.”

“I missed you.”
He grinned. “You better have. Come, you need to eat something.”
She grasped his hand when he got up. “I think I should welcome you home properly.” She stood up and cupped his face. There was instant desire in his eyes and she smiled with satisfaction as she pulled him closer.

“No.” Surprisingly, it didn’t bother her. They hadn’t been together for long, yet, she wouldn’t mind carrying his child. Her breath caught in her throat. She was in love with him. Should she trust that feeling? It was much too soon.
He spun her around to sit her back on the counter. “I know that look. What are you thinking?”
