“It’s how they’re built, although some run on electricity now.”
“You mean lightning How do you slow it down enough to get it into the car?”
“It’s really complicated; I don’t even know how it works to be honest. But you’re right, it smells ten times worse now that I’ve shifted for the first time, why is that?”
“Your body heals after each shift, so you are in peak physical health for your age.”
Shanice finished fueling up the car and they got back on the road to the facility, though driving felt pointless and dull to her now. On the road, she watched the ocean in the distance and imagined swimming into the deep with Alan, hunting in the darkness without needing vision, exploring the amazing hidden caves and more.
“Shanice, don’t worry, we will be able to do all of the things you are thinking about once I complete my mission.”
“Do what things Alan?”
“Just now, you were wishing that we could swim together, hunt in the deep parts of the sea and explore more caves…oh. It seems we’re more in sync with one another now, so our abilities are stronger when we are close…In fact, I can sense Lara, she’s far ahead of us, but definitely moving toward the facility, there’s just nowhere else out there that she would be going to.”
Shanice thought for a moment and then spoke to Alan mentally, finding it easier now than speaking aloud.
“Alan, let’s stay behind her when she gets to the facility instead of going there at the same time as her. If we go at the same time then we will run into Manfree as well and we do not know if they have guns there, though I am sure they will if they caught the other shifter. Why don’t we stay at a hotel or something near the facility?”

“I think that would be a good idea, I do not want to Lara and Jacob at once, it will be too difficult. Also what is a hotel?”
“It is basically a place you stay at temporarily in exchange for money. There should be one soon, they are usually close to highways, which are a type of road like this one that we’re on.”
They soon came upon a generic looking hotel, but as Shanice thought about the money they acquired from the cave, she smiled and drove on until they saw a sign for the Regal Suites and pulled in.
“Why did you choose this hotel instead of the other one?” Alan asked.
“This one is better, you can tell by how big the building is, plus it doesn’t have the price of the rooms on a big sign. It’s not going to be as nice as the cave, but it will do while we track Lara.”
