“Hm. In the world of sharks, there is a saying: ‘If a shark could reach its own bloody fin it would tear it off and eat it.’ That sounds like the ones you spoke of, who pollute so much. Perhaps it’s in the nature of some humans.”
As Alan and Shanice continued speaking, the driver exited the highway and announced that they were at the beach.
“Good job driver, I’m almost through with you,” Lara said as she got out of the car. Shanice, Alan, and Jacob got out as well and as they did, Lara gave Alan the signal to control Shanice. Alan looked at Shanice and then grabbed her face, staring directly into her eyes.
“Alan? What are you doi-”
“Silence Shanice. Leave here, go back to the city and don’t look back or try to find me.”
Shanice struggled for a moment, and then forced her arms to go limp as she nodded and began walking away from the group. Lara smiled at Alan, then Jacob.
“Good job Alan, now nothing is in our way. Will you challenge Jacob as per your mission?”
Alan thought about what Shanice had said, then shook his head.
“No, you can go if you are truly going to stay a human forever Jacob, I don’t care to kill one so pitiful as you anymore, it wouldn’t be a challenge. I suggest you leave as well, Manfree will be arriving soon.”
“Thank you for not completing your mission Theta, you may tell the clan that I did indeed die, for my shark form is dead and I’m now a human.”
Alan and Lara walked down the beach to the shore and into the surf. They both began shifting at once and soon Lara was 22 feet long, over a third larger than Alan was. They began swimming downward in the general direction of the nearest cave, Lara speaking to Alan mentally.
“Once we reach the cave I want to mate with you in human form first, I need to see how much of your energy it takes to get pregnant in that form. After I bear my first human child, I’ll see if it can shift, then dispose of it if it’s not able to and we can try again. But perhaps you’d like to mate as a shark first?”
Alan began slowing down as if he was considering Lara’s offer. He then began swimming in tight circles around Lara, causing their rough skin to scrape against each other and arousing the shark portion of Lara’s brain.
Back above the water, Shanice was making certain that Jacob hadn’t followed her and soon she felt his signal disappear as he went out of her range. She then rushed back toward the shore, fighting to suppress her own signal, and beginning to shift before she even landed in the waters. She felt her legs merge first and realized that she could control the process of shifting much better after having done it once. She held the transformation for a moment where it was, with her legs as a tail and her upper body the same, then finished shifting. Her arms melded into her side, her dorsal fin grew from her back, and her face widened and filled with teeth. She swam as fast as she could, amazed by the speed she could reach in so short a time and soon sensed Alan and Lara. Alan was still engaging in the mating ritual of the great white shark and Lara was so aroused she never noticed Shanice streaking down toward her. As she closed the gap, Shanice felt the protective covering like an eyelid cover her eyes as they rolled back into her head and her jaw hyper-extended. She slammed into Lara with all her might, severing her dorsal fin and sinking her teeth into her left gill. Lara began thrashing around and screamed mentally.
“What’s happened?! Alan, what attacked me? Another shark? Who is it?”
Lara’s questions went unanswered as she twisted free of Shanices grip, leaving a chunk of flesh behind. She race forward and turned sharply, ramming into Shanice and stunning her briefly.
“Alan, help me! There’s another shark here that’s interrupting us, you have to help your mate!” Lara yelled at him mentally. Alan powered through the water and looked as if he was about to bite into Shanice, but at the last second he turned toward Lara and sank his teeth into her side, tearing into her gill slits. Shanice recovered from the hit Lara had given her and lunged at Lara’s tail, catching it in her mouth and feeling her teeth shear through it effortlessly.
“This should be enough, right Alan? I don’t want to kill her and you said she heals quickly, so why don’t we put her on the shore for Manfree, maybe he can help her.”
“Shanice,”

Despite her injuries, Lara still came at Shanice, though her movements were slowed down significantly. This time Shanice was prepared and dodged her, then bit her again, this time on the right gill slit. As she sunk her teeth in the second time, she held on tightly and Alan quickly did the same. Alan spoke to Lara mentally as he and Shanice held her immobilized in the water, her blood leaking into the sea as Alan’s words went into her mind.
“Lara, this shark is Shanice. We have you and you’re injured, we can either let you go or kill you right here, but if we let you go then you are to stay away from us forever. The choice is yours.”
“Both of you planned this. Alan, you lied to me…I see now, you are more clever than I thought. You, Shanice is it? Very well done, you’ve got me and there’s nothing I can do. Take me to the surface, I’ll shift back to human and then leave.”
Alan and Shanice swam upward, pushing Lara’s maimed shark body along until it was out of the water and on the shore. As they did so, they saw her body begin to shiver as if it was being shocked.
“Alan, what’s wrong with her?”
