“Finally, you listen to me! I want you to be my mate Alan; together we can become the leaders of our own shark shifter clan and bring about the cull of humans. Leave the human girl; she’ll never understand being a shark. You can kill Jacob if you wish to, but if we have our own clan you won’t have to follow the rules of the old one, so it will be perfect for us all.”
“Very well Lara, but Shanice won’t let me go so easily, there is no way to escape from her in such a small space and I don’t want her to be harmed.”
“You can use your ability to control her and tell her to stay inside of this contraption once we find a place to stop, then Manfree will capture her. I can’t control females, but you can, so it should be simple for you.”
“And what will we do once we’ve stopped? Where will we go?”
“Then you and I will go to a cave and mate, or we can roam and get away from this land and go somewhere with fewer humans. Jacob has become enamored with their kind and doesn’t want to live as a shark any longer, s if you kill him or not it’s the same, he’s no threat to anything.”
“Fine, I have one condition though: Shanice goes free. Manfree can have Jacob, but not her.”
“Why? If I’m your mate, then what does she matter?”
“I care about her; it’s a human emotion you wouldn’t understand. I don’t want anything bad to happen to her.”
“Very well, I’ll have the driver head to the shore nearest the cave. I’m glad you see things my way Alan, we will rule together and all these humans will be a distant memory and eventually nothing but food for us.”
Lara broke the mental connection between her and Alan, then instructed the beleaguered taxi driver to head 30 miles down the highway, which would put them closest to the shore. A little over an hour behind them, Manfree was in a black sedan with the four guards, going over their orders.
“It’s imperative you all do as I say, otherwise we’ll all be killed or worse. The most important targets are Alan and his woman; they’re the only two you four haven’t seen, so you’ll know them. The woman who controlled you isn’t to be harmed unless I give the order, I don’t even know if these darts would work on her. The second shifter is to be recaptured if possible, but if not then just kill it. None of the others are to be wounded though and when it comes to the darts, no more than two per person, I don’t know if their immune systems can heal from the poison or not.”
Back in the taxi, Alan and Shanice were speaking mentally again, deciding how to foil Lara’s plan.
“Alright Alan, so you’ll make it look like you’ve controlled me, then tell me to escape and run in the opposite direction of the shore. After that, I’ll hide my energy and then come back into the water, shift into shark form and attack Lara. You’ll have to help me then, and we’ll either kill her or injure her and force her to shift to a human to heal and in that time give her to Manfree. Anything else you want to add?”
“What about Jacob? My mission is to kill him regardless of what happens with Lara.”
“If you want to then go ahead, I feel sorry for him, but I know you want to complete your assigned mission.”
“Why do you feel sorry for him? He broke the rules and must be killed or else he will cause problems for all of our kind.”
“I know, but I still feel bad that it has to happen to him, he doesn’t seem like a bad person, but do what you have to, it won’t affect how I feel about you. Honestly, I even feel bad for Lara in a way; she clearly doesn’t understand humans very much despite all her abilities,” Shanice said.
“That’s because she doesn’t want to; she views them as beneath her and so she makes no effort to learn about them. I think it has to do with her having a high rank in the clan we came from, she felt that way toward other sharks as well, even before we could shift. She was one of the first supporters of the cull and as you heard plans to make it a reality, or at least begin preparing for it.”
“We spoke about that briefly, but it was so long ago I barely remember it, could you tell me what it is once more?” Shanice asked.
“Basically, it would be a concentrated effort by all sharks to destroy nearly all humans at once so that our oceans will stop being polluted. All sharks would form an ocean wide clan and be given the ability to shift, and then they would begin infiltrating human society in groups. After eight full moons, they would report what they learned to the central shark consciousness, which would allow every shark to know it. Then all the things humans rely on would be systematically destroyed, leading to panic and chaos, at which the attack begins.”

Shanice was speechless at the thought of such destruction, but couldn’t help but feel that it was at least partially deserved.
“Does that upset you Shanice? If so I am sorry, it isn’t my plan, I just know of it.”
“I understand, it makes sense, though there are many humans that want to stop the ocean from being polluted as well, they just can’t stop the ones that do it the most.”
“Why is that? If the oceans are polluted too much then your kind will die as well, so why pollute?”
“It’s usually done for money, the ones who do it are often greedy and just want to hoard more and more money even though they don’t need it, no matter what gets destroyed,” Shanice said.
