She had said it to Liam as well, her fourth boyfriend. She had genuinely loved him too. He had been so nice to her, so genuinely loving and caring. He had truly cared about her in his own way, even though he had cheated on her with a man. She knew that he had loved her because such things are not easily faked. You cannot fake love unless you are a master actor, and Liam had never really been much of an actor. He was the kind of person that wore his heart on his sleeve, which was partly why Vanessa had been so shocked when she had found out that he had been having an affair with a guy. She simply hadn’t been able to wrap her head around the fact that he had lied to her so well for so long, that he had managed to keep this from her somehow. She was amazed that he had managed to keep the act up.
She regretted saying it to him as well, of course. She regretted loving him because he had broken her heart in such a fundamental way. He had made her feel like she wasn’t good enough for anybody, that she was a failure as a woman. This hadn’t been the right way to feel, of course, because no one can make you feel like you are not really a woman, but Vanessa had not been able to help how she felt because the betrayal had been so utterly unexpected.
She regretted loving all of the men she had loved, all of the men she had ever said it to. This was not right. One should never have to regret love. One should never have to feel like the emotions they have felt over the course of their life have led them to bad places. One should never have to regret loving someone because love is a thing that is so intimate that if you regret feeling it, it can really mess with you in the long run.
This was why Vanessa was so happy now. She was happy because she felt like, for the first time in her life, she was genuinely loving someone and she was not making a mistake by doing it. She was not making a mistake by feeling the way she felt, and after all that she had been through, after all of the mistakes that she had made so far in her love life, this truly was a very nice way to feel. She wanted to feel this forever, she wanted this feeling to consume her until it became the only thing she could feel. She wanted to sink into the ocean of joy that was currently floating in, let it fill her body up until she was completely and utterly whole with its presence inside of her.
She didn’t know how she could express all of this to Robert. It was almost as if there was a novel written inside of her, a novel that talked about all of her feelings and how she felt like she loved Robert more than she had ever loved anyone else in her life. But in trying to put these feelings into actual words she had a feeling that she would only end up messing up what she truly meant to say. Emotions very rarely translate well into words. Emotions are felt very strongly, but when it’s time to convey them it can become quite difficult because they are very subjective, and in order to express them, one must possess a mastery of language that very few people actually possess, even Vanessa who was a very good writer could not adequately express the love that she was feeling right now.
She smelled breakfast cooking and she started to love Robert all the more. She had never been treated like this before. She had never been treated like a queen, like she was worthy of being spoiled. Even Gautam had never made her feel like she was so special, even Liam. The two men that she had truly loved had not been able to make her feel this way in the years that she had spent with them.

Robert was making her feel this way as if there was nothing special going on. He was making her feel like royalty, like someone that deserved to be treated this way every single day. She wondered if this was what life with Robert would be like.
It was a Sunday morning so he did not have to work. This was why he was so relaxed right now, obviously, this was why he had the time to cook her breakfast. She wondered if he would do this every day for her. She wondered if, every Sunday morning, she would be able to awake to the smell of breakfast that was being cooked for her, and smiled knowing that it was being cooked out of love. She wanted to feel this way. She wanted to be able to experience something like this every Sunday.
She was on the way there. They had just had s*x, and Robert was not the kind of guy that simply had s*x with someone and then never called them again. Even if he had been, Vanessa knew for a fact that he was not going to do this with her because she knew that he felt something for her that he had never felt for anybody else in his life except for his late wife. She knew that his love for her was there. She didn’t know just how strong it was, but she had faith that it would be strong enough to make him feel like he could be intimate with her on a regular basis and feel safe in that intimacy.
Robert came in, smiling. He had the breakfast on a tray which he placed on top of Vanessa. It was the kind of tray that allowed her to lie down comfortably while eating her breakfast. It was so thoughtful of him to go through this much trouble even though it wasn’t expected of him. It was so thoughtful of him to want to make her feel so special by putting in so much work, even though Vanessa had been ready to help him make breakfast because she had not expected to be treated so well.
She loved that he did not need to be asked to do something nice, that he would do something nice regardless. She loved that he was the kind of person that wanted to do nice things for the people he cared about, and she felt so utterly privileged to be one of the people that he cared about and that she could enjoy all of this special treatment that Robert was giving her.
