She hadn’t realized how much she had missed parties. She hadn’t realized that everything she had been missing was what she had needed. She had craved socialization so much and she hadn’t even realized it. She had thought that it was just the strain of this new project she was undertaking. She thought that it was just the fact that she was developing feeling for Robert and she didn’t think that he was going to reciprocate those feelings. Those things played a part in it of course, but at the end of the day it was her lack of socializing that was making her feel even worse than she had already been feeling.
Robert took her around and they got drunk and ate and by the end of it they were so tipsy that they were falling over each other. Robert was talking about something and when that person left, something came over Vanessa. She looked at Robert and felt like she was seeing him for the first time. She did not know how she looked at him, but she did know that it had an effect on Robert, a real, tangible effect because he kissed her after he felt her gaze.
