“Well, why don’t you come right in?” he asked cynically, but the way she turned around and looked at him made him want to take his words back.
“Why don’t you take your tone down a notch?” she asked as she turned around and stood in the middle of his living room. He nodded.
“I’m sorry,” he said. “And not just about what I said…about the last couple of days…” His voice trailed off when she put her hand up.
“Victor, I didn’t come out here to hear you give me some sob story. I came here to have you hear me out.”
She looked at him and took a long deep breath.
“That night at the bar, that was a dick move. And I understand that you were probably not in a very good space because of the conversation you’d had with your father, but that doesn’t give you the right to pass judgment on what I want to do with my life. That was not right.”
“I know,” Victor started and she nodded.
“I’m not done,” she said in a soft voice. “What you have against a woman joining the fire department…I’m still trying to get what your deal is. But honestly, this shit you have been pulling trying to tell me to stop volunteering and then suddenly out of nowhere you have a problem with me being a permanent member of the team…I do not understand where it all came from. And if anything I would like to make this very clear, Victor.” She brought her hands together and pressed them to her lips. “Ever since foster care, I never thought I would get to own my life, but after seeing Leo do it, I wanted to do something I am passionate about. And I love being a fire fighter. So I am doing it anyway. Whether you like it or not. You hear me?”
He parted his lips, but he could not bring himself to say anything.
“Because I cannot be with someone who does not support me,” she added as she looked into his eyes.
As he stood there looking at her, he was wondering if he was supposed to answer her, nod, or just reach out and hug her, but before he could do anything, she was already walking towards the door. He looked at her as she walked towards him and then right out of the door. His heart was racing as she stood there wondering what to do. He knew that he had upset her, but he should have known the depth of the damage he had caused. This was not just any woman. This was a real woman who liked him and not Victor Racine. Not someone who was after him for all the wrong reasons. At the back of his mind, he knew that his pride had to take a backseat if he was ever going to get her back. He ran his fingers through his hair and sighed loudly.
“You’re an idiot, Victor,” he thought as he opened the door. He quickly made his way to the end of the hallway where Macy was, ready to go down the stairs. “Macy!” he called out before she started walking downstairs. She stopped in her tracks and turned around. “Baby,” he started as he took her hand in his. His heart was racing as he stood there. He knew exactly what he wanted to say, but for some reason, he couldn’t get the right words. All he could do was just lean in and hold the back of her neck. She closed her eyes as he pulled her close and kissed her softly. That was all he could do to make sure she didn’t make a run for it.
“That doesn’t change my mind, Victor,” she said in a soft voice.
“I know,” he said as he pressed his forehead to hers. “I know.”
“Then what…” She pulled away and shook her head. “I don’t understand what is going on with you…with us.”
“I don’t want to lose you, Macy. That’s what going on with us.”
She looked into his eyes and shrugged.
“And I am perfectly okay with having you do whatever you want.” He held her face in his hands and forced a smile. “But that doesn’t mean that I won’t worry.”
“I know you will,” she said in a soft voice. “But you have to remember that I have been doing this for a long time.”
He nodded and looked down at her body. There was a long awkward silence before he kissed her again.
“I don’t want you to leave,” he said in a soft voice when he pulled away. She looked into his eyes and brought a hand up to hold the back of his neck. He kissed her again and pulled away before he began walking back towards the apartment, her hand still in his. She followed him silently and as soon as they were back inside the apartment, he pushed her against the door and a silent gasp escaped her lips. He interlaced his fingers with hers and raised her arms above her head, pinning them against the door.
“You are so beautiful,” he whispered before he brushed her lips with his. His body was pressed up against her body. And even though it had just been a few days since he had been with her, but it might as well have been a lifetime. He was craving her with every fiber of his being. He had never wanted anyone the way he wanted her then. He slowly lowered his arm, tracing his finger down her soft inside arm. He pushed her hair back exposing her bare shoulders and neck before he lowered his head to kiss her sensitive neck. She was moaning softly as he ran his lips and tongue from her shoulder to her neck. She had her eyes closed and she could feel his already hard cock pressing against her.
“Tell me what you want,” he whispered.
“I want anything you want,” she said in a soft voice and he pulled back. She then put an arm around his neck and he lifted her into his arms before he made his way to the bedroom. When he got there, he let her down on the floor and his eyes ran down her perfect body before he reached behind her and pulled the zipper of her dress down. He stepped back after opening the two strands of her dress that held it up behind her neck and watched it drop to the ground gathering around her feet in a sea of cream looking like pale white rose petals. As if on cue, she slipped her fingers into her panties and gently wriggled out of them.
