“Your mind is fascinating. And all over the place,” he commented.

She sighed and laid back down. “Always has been.” A moment of silence passed. “So, um, about moving in together. . .”

Nathan waited, holding his breath. He feared he had asked too soon and had possibly scared her. After all, they’d known each other only a few short weeks, but he’d known the minute he’d kissed her that first time behind the café where she worked. He loved her.

“I think it’s a good idea,” she continued.

Nathan released his breath in a huff and said, “Oh, thank gods.”

Lucy giggled and sat up to look at him. “You know, though, that Kayla will be mightily disappointed. She wanted us to move in together.”

“Hmmm. I think I can offer a better incentive if you move in with me.” He pulled her down and kissed her, igniting their passion again.

Breathlessly, Lucy said, “Um, yeah. Kayla can’t do that for me.” She smiled down at him and winked.

“I was thinking we’d live here, especially if you decide to take the job the Head is offering you.”

Lucy nodded. “I think I’m going to take it. I have a couple more questions that have popped into my head.”

Nathan interrupted, “While we were having s*x? Wow, I need to step up my game.”

Lucy playfully slapped him. “Shut up. While you were sleeping after. Do you always pass out right after?” He shrugged and then nodded, and she rolled her eyes at him. “I’m going to run home and change. I’ll call the Head and see if I can meet with him this afternoon and discuss getting started on my new job.” She squealed in delight. “This is so exciting!”

“I’m happy for you, baby.” Her smile drooped into a frown as a thought popped into her head. “What’s the matter?”

“I have to give my two weeks’ notice at the café. Jeff will probably be a real di*k about it,” Lucy claimed. She climbed out of bed so she could begin locating her clothes, which had been strewn about before their romp the evening before.

“If he’s a di*k, don’t give notice. Just quit,” Nathan told her. He stretched on the bed, moaning loudly, put his arms behind his head, and watched her naked body roam around his room collecting clothes.

“That would be mean to the other waitresses and waiters. I wouldn’t do that.”

Nathan smiled. “That’s why I love you. You’re such a good person.”

Her panties and bra were on, and she shimmied into her pants as she replied. “And I love you because you’re so damn hot. I almost don’t want to put these pants on.”

“Then don’t.” He grinned and rose, sauntering naked towards her.

She held up her hand. “Hold it right there, Nathan. I have to go. As much as I want that body, we’ll have to wait.”

His grin didn’t leave his face. He kissed her as he passed her on the way to the bathroom. “You thought I was going to seduce you. Oh how little you know me. It hurts.” Lucy slapped his ass. “Hey! Ouch. I won’t be in the office today. I’ve got several people I have to see today.”

“How intriguing. I have a wonderful idea,” she proclaimed, grabbing him around the waist and hugging him to her. “Come to my place tonight. I’ll cook some dinner and we can start packing up my stuff.”

“I love that idea. Not sure what time I’ll be there, but I’ll text you.”

“I’ll do the same. Now kiss me so I can leave.”

Lucy grabbed a cab back to her apartment. She needed a quick shower and a change of clothes. What should have been a walk of shame was a prideful walk through the lobby of her apartment building. She loved the fact that she’d stayed at his apartment and that he loved her and she loved him. She was about to accept a job that she didn’t think she’d be able to get until after she had graduated and interned. Her life was coming together just as she’d imagined it; she couldn’t be happier.

She called the Head’s office and spoke with his secretary, who told her he had an open appointment at three. Lucy breathed a sigh of relief. It was only eleven, so she had plenty of time to get ready, eat, and even check her class assignments for the week.

While she worked, she called Kayla and put her on speaker phone. “Hey, Kayla.”

“Hey! What’s going on?”

“You will not believe what’s happened!” Lucy exclaimed, abandoning her laptop to focus on her conversation with her best friend. “First of all, I’ve been offered a job! I’m giving my two weeks’ notice at work tomorrow!”

“Oh, Lucy! I’m so happy for you! Tell me about the job,” Kayla exclaimed.

Lucy launched into an explanation of what she knew about the job. “I’m going there today to get the rest of the details. I guess I’ll start in two weeks!”

“That’s great. And exactly what you’re going to school for.”

“I know!” Lucy hesitated but decided to tell her quickly, like pulling off a band aid. “So, Nathan asked me to move in with him today.”

Kayla was silent for an extra second. “Really?”

“I know, I know. We’ve only known each other for a short time, but I know this is the real thing. I know he’s the one.” Lucy waited for her reply, holding her breath in expectation.

“Lucy, I’m happy for you. I love you and want the best for you, and if this is what’s best, then I’ll come over and help you pack!”

“Oh gods! I’m so glad you said that! I was so scared you’d be mad at me,” Lucy breathed.

“Mad? No! I mean, I know we talked about moving in together, but we never progressed past talking. I’m glad you found the one. I do have to admit, I’m jealous, though,” Kayla laughed.

“Well, I have to get dressed and prettied up for my second interview. I’ll see you tomorrow at the café,” Lucy said.

“Sounds good,” Kayla answered.
