Matt hopped in Nathan’s car and asked where they were going for the meeting. “He asked to meet at an apartment building over by the river. He says the apartment is his hideaway.”

“Huh. Sounds a little suspicious.”

“It does, but I know why he has it, although he doesn’t know I know.” Nathan paused to check a street sign. “He’s gay but doesn’t want people to know about it. He meets men there.”

“Why doesn’t he want anyone to know?”

“I’m not sure. There are plenty of gay weres around, and they live perfectly normal lives.”

“We just need to keep an eye out, check out the parking lot, the lobby, everything before we lock ourselves in a tight spot.”

Fifteen minutes later, they pulled up in front of the apartment building and looked around. Neither of them saw anything suspicious, so they climbed out and walked upstairs. Bobby answered the door quickly and beckoned them inside.

“Hello, Nathan,” Bobby said. He looked a little haggard. “Thank you for coming.”

“Hi, Bobby. This is Matt,” Nathan introduced.

“Yes, I remember.” Bobby shut the door and walked to a chair and gestured for them to sit on the couch. “I want to help you stop Marissa. She’s lost her mind. She’s dangerous.”

Nathan nodded. “Explain to me why I should believe you.”

“You have no reason to, I understand. But I can help you and will.”

Matt sat forward. “If you want to be rid of her, why not just kill her? You have access to her, and by yourself, all the time.”

“I’m no killer. I don’t have the guts,” Bobby answered. “But I do have the guts to help you get in and kill her.”

Nathan frowned. He believed him, despite his past behavior. He’d known Bobby for almost as long as he’d known Marissa, and even though he was thoroughly Marissa’s man, he had always been logical. He’d gone to the Head more than once because he didn’t agree with Marissa and couldn’t talk her out of something.

“What if I told you we didn’t want to kill her?”

Bobby looked confused. “What do you want to do then?”

“Answer this first: if she’s out of the picture, what happens to the rebellion?” Nathan asked.

Bobby furrowed his brows in thought. “There’s no one else who can lead. It will fall apart, I’m sure.”

Nathan and Matt exchanged a look. Nathan raised his eyebrows at him, and Matt nodded; he believed him as well.

Nathan looked at Bobby and said, “We want to kidnap her and put her on trial for treason. Will you help us get to her?”

Bobby smiled and pulled out a roll of paper. He unfolded it, revealing detailed blueprints of the building Marissa and her weres occupied.

Nathan and Matt exchanged a smile and leaned forward as Bobby began to speak.
